Worst Equipment mistake of me

Recommended Posts

This was quite actually quite easy for me to answer personally, a lot of you may find it surprising I am a huge fan of the QI 10 lineup unfortunately I think their Hybrid lineup sucks. I had M4 for Hybrid that everyone whoever hit it seem to always catch it right on the screws and just nut it like an idiot I “upgraded “ QI 10 higher without hitting it. I did not feel the need to hit it since the driver and 5 wood were so amazing for myself. the big part of that sentence is those are both woods!!! The QI 10 hybrid, I hate it would love to go back to M4 but I donated it to First Tee whenever I purchased the new one. Thankfully it is not a huge financial mistake, although not cheap could be alot worse.

Been there done that for certain - had a club that was working great and for some stupid reason replaced it with an ”upgrade.” I’ve done so many stupid things and wasted so much money on golf equipment that I hardly know where to start but I will try this one.

Driver - got to test the Ping G400 for MGS - hit it great - I then was in the first Super Speed test group. Went to my fitter who moved me into a heavier shaft - hit it greater. Got picked for the MGS Ping long game test (this is over a 2 plus year span) Ping fitter took out my 3 wood, 4 hybrid and 5 hybrid and put me in G410 5,7,9 woods - those are still in my bag five years later. He also talked me into a G410 with a very light shaft - I was swinging great the day after f that fitting, just nutting ball after ball - outside, track man, Pro VIx’s - ideal conditions. He convinced me that I was going to gain 10 yards with that set up - he was right - unfortunately I had no clue what my missed were going to be - you could see it on shot scope - split even between left and right - my handicapped went from 4 to 7 in three months. Ive gone through two different shafts and 3 different heads in the five years since and only just feel like I’ve got a driver in the bag that I can depend on again. In the meantime my handicap has continued to rise in large part because of a mistake with irons - I’ve corrected that one too but it cost me. 😞

Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

Why do we do stupid stuff like that it’s unbelievable, but it’s all part of this beautiful crazy ass game. Greatest game in the world.

  • 2 weeks later...

I haven't played hybrids in several years as this is the first time using the Qi10 Max 4 23* and I love it, so easy to hit right down the middle 210. Probably my biggest equipment mistake would be getting rid of something before I gave it a fair chance of liking it just because of a bad round...how many times have we ever done that?

I can relate.  I had a set of Mizuno JPX 923 HL irons that fit me well and produced good results.  Last month, Callaway was doubling trade in value and with trading in the Mizunos and a driver, there was no cost to me to get a set of Paradym AI Smoke HL irons.  Hey! new and shiny for no cash?  Gotta do it.  After a month, I have put the Callaways up for sale on FB marketplace.  The performance is pretty much the same as the Mizunos except I am not as consistent and they just don't feel and sound as good as the Mizunos.  I think the consistency issue is probably down to the shafts.  Stupid me.
