NWI
Hi all, first time poster here. I just had a fitting today and walked out with the Callaway AI Smoke driver and 4 hybrid. My question is can anyone recommend a torque tool that actually has a click adjustment so I know when it’s too tight without over torquing it? Looks like they sell a cheap $10 one but no audible clicking. I’m a buy once cry once kind of person so I’m not really worried about cost. How bad could it be..lol on a side note I also hit the the new mizuno 925 hot metal and they were amazing.. now I just have to wait for them William P, Lefty11, Rob Person and 1 other
Rob Person
Welcome to m g s! I have always wondered if the torque tools were specific to a brand or if they were in general, all the same torque spec.? I have 2 different brand wrenches, and without having a torque meter. I can't tell if they are designed to Click add different foot lbs William P, The TXBexar and Lefty11 3 Quote WITB- Driver -Titleist 910D, 3w- Titleist 910F, 5hy/7hy- Titleist 910H, 6-PW - Stix , 52⁰, 56⁰, 60⁰ - Stix , Putter- AI-ONE DB / Lombardi Tour 34 custom Just an old newbie golfer, trying to learn and improve 1 club at a time. TJ Hall
I still have a TM wrench from years ago that clicks, not sure if the standards are the same but have used it on TM and Ping drivers. I am not positive but believe the torques applied are pretty common among the various brands. If you are not worried about price I would go straight to the OEM to purchase, however, I have not heard or read any negative feedback on those sold by Amazon. However, if you read the Callaway site if appears they sell a wrench that doesn't click...at least based on the comments. I'd go to/call a golf store near me and see what they have. NWI
Okay sounds good. I guess I could just call the golf shop I went to and see what he was using. He’s was clicking away for hours lol. I’ve never messed with changing anything before but figured if I’m going to get better I better start using all the tools I have available. Thanks everyone. storm319
The vast majority of the industry uses a T25 torx bit and a torque spec of 40 in-lb so you can use generic or adjustable wrenches as long as you are using the correct size bit and avoid exceeding this torque spec. If you want to stick to a branded golf wrench, all Callaway/Ping/Titleist wrenches have used this spec since inception. All Taylormade wrenches aside from the early yellow r7 wrenches have used this spec as well. The other OEMs have had bit size/shape or torque spec differences over the years (Cobra used a smaller bit size until 2015 or 2016 so avoid using these to avoid stripping screws), but pretty much the entire industry has aligned with the big 4 driver OEMs in recent years. The Titleist wrenches are the best quality and provide the best cluck feedback IMHO.
