Another "safeguard" or "alternative" would be to place a towel between the bag and bracket before securing it tight with the strap.

I had already been thinking about the dependable attachment of the Sun Mountain C130 and the lack of that patented feature on the Ghost Golf  GT-14 series.  I have a hook and loop strap with a buckle that I think is designed for securing such things as coiled cable, that came out of my C130 bag when I loaded up the GT-14 yesterday.  I used that strap today setting up for the first test on a riding cart by looping the strap around the cart bracket and the upper cart bag carry strap ring and pulled it tight before securing the strap in the loops provided/designed in the GT-14.  I noted during the 18 hole round that the hook and loop strap remained taut and well secured the entire round and pulling down as it did the cart bag stayed in place.

So the point here is that yes it is true that I added this feature to the bag that was not provided by Ghost Golf but I am a US Army trained Combat Engineer and I am going to take whatever measures are needed to ensure the testing is successful for the duration and that does not require abrasion and surface damage by the cart bag moving inside a rugged woven nylon cart strap.  Ghost Golf has available a sleeve to slide these rough and questionably clean straps through for that purpose, and having looked at the quality of the GT-14, I am intending to get one from their online store, or fashion such a protective sleeve as intentionally causing damage for a test seems pointless when that kind of damage has already been reported and shown with photographs in this thread.

What I did do was saved the plastic that protected the carry strap during the unboxing and used that as the sleeve to protect the exquisite leather of  the GT-14 as every owner would who intends to use reasonable means to protect the investment in this premium cart bag.  I don't think that element is part of this test, at least it will not be from this tester/reviewer.

The C130 bag on the left is Jim's @The1C3man so we were able to do a very good direct comparison of the two bags and he bought his C130 after seeing mine "forever" before he upgraded to the Sun Mountain a couple years ago.  We both appreciate the straps on the C130 used to secure the cart bag to a golf cart and using the golf cart strap as a safety strap and extra gear attachment point (like where I hang the phone caddy bag by it's cinch cord to make sure I don't forget it on the golf cart windshield frame after the round).

Friday was a great day to play hooky and head to the course for 18 holes with great friends.  Actually I was approved for the leave weeks ago, but it's nice to get away from the regular routine especially when it is for golf.  Better yet it was a day spent with Jim @The1C3man who provided transportation that means we talked the whole way there, the usual hand slapping "things you can say on the golf course you can't say elsewhere" while we were on the course, and conversation all the way home.  Still, 12 hours will never scratch the surface with a friendship that goes back decades.  

 

The drive was intentionally using highways and skipping the interstate as it is always more of an adventure and both of us when given the opportunity will take the roads less traveled.  We stopped in the town center of Brockton where Brad Anderson was born, raised, and returned after WW2 service, college, and initial employment, and it is where he created and wrote the syndicated Marmaduke cartoon for the rest of his lifetime.  The town created the monument to celebrate their famous member and it was an example of the kind of diversions we enjoy when we travel.

Chautauqua Golf Club was the venue and the course was the Lake Course which was completed in 1924, designed by Scottish architects Seymore Dunn and Donald Ross.  We were effectively playing a centenary round on the course!  Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Walter Hagen, and Gene Sarazen have played the Lake Course, and Amilia Earhart landed her Lockheed Vega plane on the 17th fairway on July 20, 1929 when she went to do a presentation at the Chautauqua Institution next door to the golf club.  I think her approach was much better than mine off the tee box to be honest.

The intention of the day was to play one last round for the year as our foursome friendships run much deeper than golf.  It was a busy day for the golf club and arriving I was pleased to see another Ghost Golf GT-14 Oreo Cart Bag in the back of a pickup truck.  I saw a few GT-14s there as they seem to be already popular and the clientele of Chautauqua tends to be those who have discretion to spend on things of good quality and value based on the kinds of vehicles in the parking lot.  One row of vehicles were all new model pickup trucks while premium brand vehicles tended to park closer to the clubhouse, some looking too sporty to have room for golf clubs in them.  On my last round at Chautauqua GC I took a photo of a Audi mini pickup that was custom built by the golfer/owner who was only too happy to show me the finish of the covered bed and it was so well done that it looked like it had come off an assembly line. 

 

Suffice to say, the golf bag is already perceived as a good purchase and status statement by those who have a choice of what they want to spend their golf dollars for.

Jim has a C130 bag he's had for two years, now on his third season, and like me he is well pleased with his golf bag.  So the comparison of his bag and the GT-14 now loaded with my golf gear is of great interest to both of us.  The pocket arrangement is identical between the golf bags (C130 has one extra soft fabric lined pocket in front) but the linings of the valuables pockets on the middle outside of the larger side pockets are more plush on the GT-14. 

I literally moved all my things from bag to bag in exactly the same arrangement to keep it simple and be able to find anything quickly.  During unboxing, I took photos of the pockets and used my hand for size scale.

    
    

     

    

    

The beverage pockets are nicely lined with waterproof materials but apart from a bag of dried cranberries I don't carry beverages inside my golf bag.  I do carry extra water so I suppose that counts and the GT-14 has two excellent pockets for carrying water bottles and containers, something I will be planning for and testing this coming week.

I'm also looking forward to testing the bag's waterproof qualities as rain is in the forecast and I do golf in rain.  Unless the wind is making it blow sideways, threatening umbrellas, and forking lightning I will be found on a golf course as rarely is anyone else out there.  I only wear waterproof golf shoes after my 2021 test and I wear wicking clothing, and it would be great to just use an umbrella for the golfer held by the push cart and not have to worry about a raincoat or rain cover over the golf bag to keep things dry inside.  So more to follow when that happens.
