Shot tracking system need a rental option

Recommended Posts

I keep getting intrigued by all the new shot tracking systems out there.  Game, Arccos, Shot Scope etc...  I think it would be really nice to get some hard data on carry distances with my clubs while using my ball and in course conditions.

My problem is that I don't know that I would use the rest of the features.  I have a pretty good idea where my current issues lie in regards to scoring lower and I know what I need to do to fix those issues.  (spending the time to fix them is another topic altogether)

I also don't want these devices on my clubs all the time.  I have a feeling once I played 5 or 10 with it I would take it off and it would sit in my closet until I get the bug to use it again or decide to sell it.

What I would love to see is some sort of rental or lease program from these companies.  Let me use it for a month, or 5 rounds posted or 10 rounds posted.  Then send it back.

You will still have the guys that want to buy the device, but I would assume there are others out there with a similar mindset to myself.  This could open up another revenue stream for these companies by tapping the "tire kickers" and letting them see the benefits.

Another option would be a course buys a couple of units and they do the rental by the round.  Charge $5 or $10 a round and print off the stats after the round for the golfer to take home.

Anyone else interested?

Yeah I see your point hcky. I had a Game Golf early on and sold it to one of our members here. I hear it's much better now days. But still... the tapping. I didn't like that aspect of it from the get go. I don't think I'd rent one either. I'll bet you before long someone will come out with grips with the sensors built in. But then again... you'd have to like their grips. Probably won't work.

For me to jump on this type of technology again I'm going to have to sit back for a while longer and watch it. And... it's going to have to get a lot less expensive. For me better technology + less cost = might purchase. And quite frankly all I need is one or two sensors and a free app to go with them.

Funny. After my post above yesterday I now discover that Game Golf and Golf Pride have teamed up and they will sell a GP grip with the GG sensor incorporated into the grip. And just like I said.... you'll have to like the grip style they use. From looking at the new product I'd have to again say... I don't like the grip style. In fact I had those on my clubs and replaced them. Didn't like them all that much. I think this will be a bust.

Definitely a niche market for those.  If you happen to use Game Golf and happen to like those grips I'm guessing you are a happy guy right now.  So for those 7 people this is probably great news :)
