  1. the clubs alone won’t make you better. but if you do the work to find the sweet spot consistently on a smaller head, that’s where the payoff is. with GI irons you can keep getting away with contact that’s “good enough”
  2. ping g410 had me about 215 carry with a 7i. titleist t100 had me about 195. i’ll always hit the ball long, no matter the club. i just didn’t need the additional distance and help getting the ball in the air that GI irons provide. additionally, i felt like i never would’ve learned to become a good ball striker. i equate it to wood vs metal baseball bats. you can hit both of them 400 feet, but the wood will make you a better hitter.
  3. i’m in a very similar position to you. i started golfing a few months ago with hand me down clubs and i have a high handicap but exceptionally high swing speed. i swing my 7i 105-110mph. the first fitter i went to heard my handicap and immediately fit me for GI irons. like you, i don’t see any reason to have a 215yd 7i. my advice to you is to truly take stock of how seriously you want to take getting better. if you just want to play some recreational golf, GI irons will definitely mask a lot of mishits and will allow you to enjoy the game. what i decided to do was get fit for clubs that my game can grow into. if you’re dedicated to getting better, that route is going to serve you for the next handful of seasons at least.
  4. $2500 grand prize sounds nice...good luck everyone! https://www.americangolfcensus.com/register/?sourceCode=1508665
  5. i did, out of morbid curiosity. he just avoided the question.
  6. fall is definitely here...had a 3:48 tee time and only got 9 in comfortably. what an up and down 9 holes. 5 pars, a bogey, two doubles, and a triple for 44 i was in scramble mode the whole time. driving iron was blocked right, i couldn’t close the club face to save my life. short game was awesome today though. 4th hole, par 3, hit my tee shot pin high but right of the green. chipped to a foot. 7th hole approach shot found the green side bunker on the short side. hit a beautiful high arcing flop shot that just caught the fringe and rolled to 2 feet to save par.
  7. @McaseyM im glad it worked out for you as well. i was prepared to wait a month for my money, but i guess his dad made him cough it up with the quickness he's still texting me, by the way. today it sad to tell me the clubs got “returned to sender” because he wrote my address wrong
  8. just got everything in today to start practicing metal stamping. the plan is to stamp my wedges once i’m comfortable making solid strikes. 2.5lb mini sledge, young bro’s stamp kit, 100 little steel blanks I've got an anvil in my dad’s garage for when i finally get around to the wedges.
  9. it’s a lot of quickly digested, nutrient poor calories. i try to limit my shakes to one post workout and one at night that i use to fill in any gaps in my numbers. i can tweak the nighttime shake to make sure my numbers are where they need to be. for example if i’m low on fat for the day, an extra scoop of PB goes in. if i’m low on carbs, a banana or two go in the blender. for him to be getting the bulk of his calories from shakes isn’t the best idea
  10. i love the way you’re going about this! i’m really excited to see the progress here. i quoted that one part for two reasons. 1. ive been having this debate with my brother in law since the golf season restart. Bryson bulked up, he didn’t “get jacked”. he put on a LOT of weight very quickly and a lot of it is fat. that’s not to say it’s good or bad - just cringe a little when people say he’s jacked. 2. i’ve been tracking macros for a long time. i can look at a list of food and reasonably tell you the calorie count. all the “bryson’s daily diet” articles i’ve seen say he’s eating 6k cal, but it’s likely closer to 4k. there’s definitely some media fluff in effect there, i just think it’s irresponsible for them to inflate those numbers. now you’re gonna have a bunch of 14 year old kids stuffing 6k cal in their faces trying to drive it 350
  11. i looked over a few before throwing them in my bag. like you, i can’t see any reason they would’ve been designated for practice. my wallet thinks there just fine, too.
  12. i’m in new york. the clubs on long island are insanely expensive. if i joined one of them the coke and hooker budget would take a big hit.
  13. @Tom the Golf Nut, those are all great questions, thank you! the tournament question is of particular interest to me because as i get a little better id like to compete in those tourneys. thank you for the heads up about paying for guests, that’s something i’ll definitely ask about
  14. great point, thanks. i know bag storage is an extra cost, but i’ll be sure to ask about all the costs associated with membership
  15. this particular club is cart-only. i plan on asking why that is. i know they charge $15/18 holes and $8/9 hole for carts. but they are the most affordable club around by a wide margin, so i’m ok with paying for a cart theyre $4500 for the year, and an additional $375 for bag storage. no initiation fee other clubs close to me are 12k and up just for initiation, and then they’re north of 15k for yearly dues.
  16. hey guys, just looking for a bit of advice here. i’m playing a practice round saturday at a local club that i’m interested in joining. i’ve never belonged to a country club, and didn’t grow up around one really. my grandfather belonged to one of the really ritzy ones around here, but he didn’t golf. he liked it because he could dump the grandkids at the pool and go play cards and talk business haha what are the things i should look out for or the questions i should ask the head pro while i’m there to make sure everything is a good fit? thanks in advance!
  17. boxes in boxes seems pretty wasteful, and i hate having empty sleeves in my bag. just gonna have to go to a 2 bucket system in the basement closet now. “gamers” and “practice”
  18. i guess i shouldn’t have expected boxes for $19.99/dozen
  19. after watching The Last Dance, i tried being 6 foot 6 like Michael Jordan. it didn't work.
  20. where’s this range? i wouldn’t mind hitting there
  21. i just love the way Vokeys look and i can’t wait to see how the black patinas and wears in. the only question now is 50* or 52* to round out the set. or maybe one of them bent to 51*. too many options.
  22. i was the same way. always in person. lesson learned now.
