Like @carter18mentioned, the Garafalloy GWX is a great metal wood option. It plays a little bit stiffer and comes in at 52g vs the PLB 44g. It has a 4" tip so can be tip trimmed to dial in stiffness but probably wouldn't be necessary. The lightest flex is A so again, adding to the stiffness coming from the L flex PLB.

Could not access the Golfworks website in Sweden before, but now it works for some reason. It won’t calculate the shipping cost automatically so I sent them an email. Hopefully I can get it for below double the listed price, as there is usually a 25 percent customs fee as well if you dont get lucky.

First off, welcome to MGS Forum and thank you for sharing your experience thus far! If you don't mind me asking, how did you happen to stumble on the experiment? I'm just curious because this seems to be making it's way around the world and it's kind of blowing my mind! 🤯 Wish I could take full credit for the idea but I can't. I will however take credit for starting this little campfire that y'all have dumped a barrel of gasoline on. 😜

From the sounds of things, it looks like you're definitely heading in the right direction! I'd bet that once you get that loft down, you'll hit those target #'s quite easily. I'd be curious to see how a game ball would read on your GC2. Do you know if the range balls are limited flight? Those could be throwing off the read too.

Please continue to update as you are able. We're all still learning from each other here and the brotherhood of the OttoPhlex is growing to something quite extraordinary.

Also, if you haven't already done so, feel free to poke around the forum. This place is a 2nd family for a lot of us.

    See ya around!

I found this thread watching a TXG video. There was a comment with something about asking them to try the Otto Phlex. So of course I hade to google it and found the thread!

Hello, I have been following this project for a week or two trying to get through the 48 pages of discussions. As a long time tinker of my golf equipment, there is no way I can pass on an opportunity to experiment. For drivers, I purchased a TSR3 last week and have a TM SIM also.

I have ordered a PLB-A shaft and have the tools and adapters to build the install ready shaft. I was thinking of ordering another shaft so I would have one for each driver, but decided to wait  before doing that. My thinking is to build the shaft for the TSR3 driver, but was wondering if the SIM may be a better choice to start with since the SIM has a greater range on its adapter to lower the loft. Any advice?

During my fitting for the TSR, my stats were: SS 104, BS 153, carry 262, attack angle 4, spin 2500, LA 14.7, club path 8, face angle 5, launch direction 5. So I generally hit a draw/hook.
    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if there will be many more outdoor rounds here in north central Ohio, but there is  a golf studio nearby that has 4 trackman bays so I’ll be spending the winter there starting next week.

For me and I think several others as well, moving to a lower lofted, lower spinning head helped. Some have had good results with their normal head. Seeing as you launch it pretty high, my guess would be that lower loft would work best for you. But only one way to find out, good luck!

  4. Lets see if uploading some images works. My dad got his PLB a while ago. He was hitting his drives a bit more erratic than normal. He measured the swing weight and it was c3. So we added some lead tape and he started hitting it better right away. This is 15 meters more than a normal drive for him so he is happy.

As for myself Im sidelined for a few weeks after some surgery on my finger. In the meantime I have left my u wood with the pro shop for reshafting, excited to try it at the start of next year.

Dont have any actual trackman data for myself, but I lofted the g400 LST down to 7,5 and so far Im liking the ball flight. With my less then stellar swing speed Im very happy with drives like this, especially in temps around 0c.

  5. I have never had any problems with my link. Missed maybe a shot every 3 rounds, usually when its very windy or twilight. I have it attached to my left pocket so its not blocked by my sweater, windbreaker etc.

My 2 main negatives with the arccos is the subscription model, quite expensive. Getting accurate data on the exact length on the putts is also a grind. To get useful putting stats (and to some extent short and approach) one would have to at a minimum pace off every putt and write down the lengths.

  6. Thanks! It seems crazy to me to play a shaft that light and flexible in the fairway wood. But on the other hand it seemed crazy in the driver as well and it worked :). I will give it a try. I saw a chart somewhere that 9 grams lighter shaft will give 1 sw point less. If thats correct, then the club should be about d0-d1 with a 25 gram lighter shaft (45 in PLB vs current 70)? The callaway website lists the club in standard at sw d3-d4. Or are there more factors in play? Thanks again for all the help, this is truly a new world for me.

Grab another PLB.  I did it for my fairway woods and got the same benefits as with the driver.  Remember, it's a butt trim only so  no need to worry about how much to trim from the tip.

Thanks Bobbers, sounds good. Usually the shaft for a fairway wood would be maybe 10-15 grams heavier than the driver shaft. But you are not having any issues playing the same weight?

Looked around a bit for something slightly heavier, could something like the UST golf 65 work? It says on the site that it is 59 grams.

Of course if you think the PLB would work I would prefer to get that, maybe in A flex even though I got the L in the driver? As the Callaway U Wood has no adapter, is my best bet to just leave the club with the pro shop for them to fix?

If this takes a wood shaft (.335"), I have a suggestion that I stumbled on by accident. Check out the Garafalloy GWX. I had originally bought this one to compare to the PLB. It just ended up being a little heavier and playing a hair too stiff.. BUT, it ended up being a perfect (for me) 3 wood shaft. I've got it in my 3 wood and don't plan to take it out. The lightest flex though is A but that should fit the bill for an S flex option.

Thanks! It is my understanding that it takes wood and not hybrid shafts. Unfortunately I could not find any site that ships that shaft to Sweden. Could a PLB in A flex work? Are wood shafts generally the same as driver shafts? Im thinking if a driver shaft is cut down to 41,5 in, would that not make it play very differently or am I missing something?

  9. I have been thinking of trying a lighter shaft for my callaway utility wood as well. The problem is I have no idea what shaft might be appropriate. I have the PLB 45g in L in my driver. The current shaft in my utility wood is a project x hzrdus black 70g stiff. It is 41,5 in length and the swing weight is D3-D4 according to the Callaway website. Im looking for the same feel to slightly stiffer than the driver. I guess the swing weight should be D1 as in the driver? Id like to play it the same length as it is now. Any ideas for a shaft?

My hope, and I know I speak only for myself, is that any effort in this area would include some of us in the 70-80 mph driver swing speed.  Age is a "******" but it does eventually get us all if we're lucky enough to hang around.

I read a LOT of what gets posted here and on other sites.  I have a hard time finding anyone, regardless of age/handicap that doesn't have "an average drive for me is 220-240" on up to "my typical drive in the 295+ carry range".  Hard to express how disheartening that is.  You'll note in earlier posts how pleased I am that the O-PH concept gets me around 175-180 yards; up from 160-165...

But when I look at the "retro" videos that compare an older driver with it's new counterpart I see numbers for the "slow swing speed/below 90 mph" showing that even with the new driver the average drive is in the 180 yard range.

My dad is in the same speed range, had him try my PLB shaft in my old g400 head, set to 11,5 degrees. He got at least a 15 yard increase in carry. He was so happy with the results that he ordered one right away. Will first try it in his GBB Epic head, will be interesting to see if the gain holds up with that.

  11. Hi all, stumbled upon this thread and had to try it out. So my driver was a g400 10,5 set to 9,5 with the stock stiff shaft, swing speed between 95-100, generally launching the ball pretty high on a good hit with spin around 2400. I have never been one to tinker with equipment but found a cheap pro launch blue in L flex online and off I went. Got it cut to 45 in and with a ping sleave installed. Really liked the feel, felt a lot easier to swing.

We have trackman range at my club, so thats some ball data but no club data. It is also only a few degrees above freezing this time of year and almost always playing into the wind on the range. Ball launched a few degrees higher, distance was hard to judge in the wind and flight felt like it was ballooning a bit. But was effortless and felt easier to find the center of the face than normal.

Had to gather some more data, so next day i rented the studio with an actual trackman for an hour. This confirmed my suspicions, spin on good shots were anywhere from 3000-3500. Club speed was up around 1 mph and ball speed up around 2 mph compared to standard shaft. Distance was marginally down. Only way I could get spin approaching 2500 was hitting a slinging hook.

A saner person then myself might have concluded the experiment here. But I figured, why not try another head? Since I have no clue how to switch the sleave I am limited to g400 heads. I find a used g400 LST 8,5 degree online. Understandably he is not interested in selling only the head, so now I have an extra regular shaft as well. Head of to the range again today with my new head with the PLB. Ball flight is so much better, launching around 15 but not ballooning into the wind. Have not tried it in the studio yet but would be shocked if the spin isnt much lower. Best part is it feels just as easy to hit as the old one. Still have one degree more to play with, as this head can come down to 7,5 if needed.

Thanks for this thread, has been a fun ride. Looking forward to the course opening in March hopefully! Of course by then maybe with some speed training I might need a senior flex 😂
