Hey all! Thought I'd throw my WITB out there. I only recently got serious into golf. Had golfed a l handful of times prior to this year, but around May 2024 I decided this would now be my new money pit... I mean hobby.

Just getting started out, didn't want to drop too much money if I didn't like it, but as of now I'm playing a Bombtech driver, 3 wood, 3hybrid and 5hybrid. I love the hybrids and use them the most.

My irons are hand-me-downs and what I'm looking at replacing next. They are Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro. They're about 22 years old and not exactly beginner clubs, but work for now (Lots of clubs being tested right now and keeping a close eye on what people are saying when I pull the trigger on my next set).

My pitching wedge is a Cleveland zipcore CBX. Gap, sand, and lob are Callaway Mac Daddy CB. These are what I'm most comfortable with in my bag and get excited when I drop one anywhere within 75yards of the green and get to pull them out.

My newest club is my Odyssey Eleven putter. When I saw it on the Callaway Pre-owned website as like new for $80 (which ended up being new in wrapper when it arrived) I hopped straight over to MGS to see if there was anything on it. There was, and it sold me on it. I did change the grip to a Super Stroke Zynergy Tour 3.0 which has further improved my game.

Intriguing question. I think a small bucket of balls should be good enough personally. If you are picking out targets on the range is it much different than a practice hole?

If you just get on the range to smack balls that probably won't get you ready, which I see most people doing. I try to pick a spot I know should be at a stock yardage for each club and hit a few. On the days I didn't have time to do this I can tell by my scorecard my first 2 or 3 holes are higher than normal.

This will probably be a hot take, but with the game drastically growing as it has, and not always necessarily for the better, that would just add more time onto rounds, more work for the groundskeepers, and I don’t believe would necessarily benefit in the long run.
Arrive early enough to warm up properly, pick targets on the range and hit your distances, and take plenty of time warming up on the short game/putting green.

Unofficial Net Return Home Series Review
This is my review of the Net Return Home Series after about 3 months of use. Of note, I chose the Home Series specifically because of the limitations in space of my garage. There are many different versions depending on your size preference and limitations. Here is a picture of my current garage setup:

Product Specifications and Minimum Room Dimensions per the Net Return Website

    Aesthetic: 9.5/10:
The Net Return is a clean, stylish looking net. Its looks were one of, if not the major, selling point of my purchase between its competitors. It is not bulky and the addition of the side barriers is cohesive to the main unit.
    Setup: 9/10
The setup of the Net Return was very self-explanatory. They utilize a color coded system to indicate which pieces fit together. In all, it took me about 15-20 minutes to set up the net. Note, this is from my initial setup which included time to take the pieces out of the wrap/box for the first time. I’d imagine it would only take about 10 minutes to set up again. It also comes with a nice carrying case to store the product when not in use.

    Performance: 9/10
Hitting into the net was a pleasant experience. The ball did in fact return back towards my feet after every swing. I did note that around 30% of the time, the ball did just hit the net and fall straight down rather than return back towards me.  One limitation of the Home Series itself is its height of 7 feet. In my setup, the ball is placed approximately 6 feet from the net. When hitting full shots with high lofted wedges, I did notice that the ball would travel and hit the upper portion of the net. From 6 feet away, I am not too concerned of a flyer ball going over the net. However, I would be concerned if I needed to be farther back from the net.
Of note, doppler launch monitors like the Mevo+ require at least 8 feet of distance from the ball to the net to get accurate results. The company actually recommends 13 feet of distance from ball to net for best results. I would be very worried about hitting higher lofted clubs from even 10 feet away from the net. This is definitely something to consider. However, only people with space limitations should go for this specific Home Series version.
    Durability: 10/10
The Net Return has been marketed by many professionals and long drive competitors. If Kyle Berkshire with a clubhead speed of 145mph can use this net, there is no way my mediocre 105mph swing will cause any issues. After about 2-3 months of use, I have seen no wear on the net. The only way I could see durability being an issue is if the net was left outdoors in harsh conditions for prolonged periods of time.
    Cost: 7/10
The price of the Net Return Home Series if $495 on their website + $199 for side barriers x2. This puts it on the more expensive end of similar nets in its category. However, I think the extra cost is warranted for the quality of the product. Please see Customer Service section below to see how I was able to get a large discount which bridged the gap between the Net Return and its competitors.
    Customer Service: 10/10
I have had no issues with the quality of the product and therefore cannot comment on the Customer Service for repairs/ replacements. However, I did contact Net Return before I purchased the product. I explained that I really liked the product but that it was more expensive than some of its competitors. Additionally, I explained that I did not need both side barriers which would be an extra cost. When trying to purchase the side barriers on their site, there was only an option to buy both side barriers as a package. As a right handed golfer, I am only concerned for a side barrier to protect me from shanks.
The Net Return Customer Service was excellent! The representative was able to help me with both of my concerns. He first found a way to only charge me $99 for one side barrier, rather than two. Additionally, he gave me a 15% discount on the entire purchase. For the Net Return Home Series + 1 side barrier, the total price was $504.90 which again was much closer to some of its competitors.
    Competitors:
There are many different companies in the golf net business. However, the only major competitor that I was debating between was the Spornia SPG-7 due to similar quality and reviews. I mention the Spornia SPG-7 here (rather than the SPG-8) because it is most similar in size to the Net Return Home Series model.
Of note, I did not try the Spornia myself and can only comment on the multiple online reviews of the product. The Spornia gets excellent reviews in quality, setup, durability, cost as well. At $289 (+$29.99 for the side barriers), it is significantly cheaper than the Net Return Home Series, especially without the discount. However, aesthetically it looks much more obtrusive and bulky than the streamlined Net Return. I would be happy with either product, but thought it would be worth the extra money to have a more appealing visual in my garage.
    Conclusion 9.5/10
Overall, I think the Net Return is an amazing product due to its easy setup, clean looks, significant durability, and excellent customer service. It is expensive, but I do think you are getting exceptional quality for your money.

    Next step:
Next step for me is combining the net with a quality launch monitor. I will be sure to update the post after doing so.

Thanks for the reply Dan! Sorry about the stolen clubs, that sucks. And yes, they definitely have a lot of feedback on these clubs. I know immediately if I took it off the toe or heel. But when you hit it pure, nothing feels better. Just started lessons last week and my coach said pretty much the same as, if I can learn to hit these well, I will become much better than if I were to just use some game improvement clubs. I'm just watching the forum reviews closely and seeing what may be worth checking out closer. Cheers!
