  1. It is amazing how these have a cult-like status on the LPGA and still have a presence on the Euro tour as well. I would expect the i210s to be more of a players distance iron and something like the blueprint in the players iron but regardless, the i210 is a set of irons that is still one of the best. For me, they launched lower than any other iron and I rarely had to fight them into the wind.
  2. Standard. Pistol shape I believe.
  3. My recent inquiry about a lefty ER5B from Evnroll was meet with this response: In-house customization shop coming soon (upcoming months) that could help me with my request. Just when I thought I was done buying clubs... Ha! Now the big question... Will it be like Toulon and bettinardi with complete customization or like a Taylor made that really just focuses on colors and sight lines or somewhere in-between? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  4. For the lefties, this is a comparison between the 919 Forged (white 8) and the 921 SEL (black 8). It's a hair thinner on the sole and top line. A little more compact but they frame the ball perfectly. I'll take more pics in the daylight tomorrow. The garage light doesn't do these irons justice. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  5. FedEx delivered a nice box from global golf today... Mint Mizuno JPX921 SEL 4-GW. Oh and FedEx delivered them right as my wife was walking out the door. That FedEx guy knew I was in trouble and told my wife they were just really long flowers. Lots of nervous laughs to be had. I'm swapping out shafts tonight and then will post pics. I've got a tournament tomorrow and what sane person doesn't introduce a new set of irons without testing them and getting proper distances?! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  6. Still waiting on the big 10 to start but wow... Clemson and Bama are on a different level than the rest of the country. If I'm an NFL GM, I tank to get Lawrence. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  7. Baby #3 coming and I need to get bag ready for the next 3+ years of no golf purchases... Selling (all Lefty): Toulon Garage Atlanta Ping Vault Arna Slate Ping Glide 3.0 Stealth Wedges Mizuno 919 Forged Cobra F7 3 Wood Arccos Sensors Garmin S60 Watch Buying: Either Ping Arna Sigma 2 or Toulon Vegas H7 Cobra F9 Tour 3W Ping Glide 3.0 or Mizuno T20 Wedges Mizuno JPX921 SEL (Already in the works...found a mint set used on Global Golf plus an additional 15% off...and if I don't sell most of my stuff soon to cover most of the cost of the new irons, well...I'm off to meet my maker!) This might be the biggest ho job I've ever tried to pull off. Everything will change except the driver, 2Hy, and 4Ut.
  8. As I stated earlier, keep the box. It's a thicker foam that doesn't necessarily roll up into a tidy spiral. It's natural state is to lay flat. It does show footprints for about 15-20 seconds just like a real green. With that being said, I haven't had any problems after I unroll it. By the time you set up the incline, cups, cup liners, bumpers, etc, it's ready to go. The bumpers add some nice weight to it to help it lay flat. I haven't noticed any creases, bumps, random slope to the green after I've unrolled it. I use it for a night, store it for one or two nights and then get it back out for a few hours. It is stored in the garage and the box itself is about the size of what a tour bag might come in.
  9. I had a custom putter made from a company in the NW and it took about 5 months to get it. Not a lot of communication from their end and even just a simple 'hey we're back-ordered for x reason' would've gone a long way. At first, you feel a little unsettled about having to initiate communication, then you get frustrated, then you're just over it. By the time I got my putter, I used it for a month and then the bad taste of customer service quickly led me to unload it to a friend of mine. Lesson learned.
  10. The Rapsodo personal launch monitor is only $399...$100 off the original price: https://www.amazon.com/Rapsodo-Mobile-Launch-Monitor-Only/dp/B07T91KFMP/ref=gbps_tit___210933d6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Still waiting for the Mizuno 921 SELs to hit Prime Day at 25% off* * - Yes, I know that's not happening but a guy can dream, right?!
  11. Just a quick update...I played on some slick greens over the weekend at La Cantera in San Antonio. I will say, I didn't see too many putts get blasted by the hole, which has been the case with the old, slower putting matt. The greens were firm and fast, but I'd give myself a B+ on speed and probably a C+ on green reading...I never played enough break. Chalk one up to the PuttUp for being more speed conscious on the greens, especially the 10-20ft putts. I'll play again next Monday on some 'faster' greens in the Houston area. I'll spend the next week on the PuttUp getting ready to see double digits on the stimp at Royal Oaks.
  12. I'm going with the SEL 6-PW. I'll throw in a Callaway X Forged utility 24* for my 5 iron and have the set a degree strong to line up with my current gamers, the 919 Forged. Love the 919s and I think they're one of the best but I'm about to have my 3rd kid and need to get the bag aligned before I go from broke to really f*^#ing broke. The SEL look fantastic and it's the only way we'll get to play the Tour line of these irons. I just need to order the wife something in the mail to distract her when my irons arrive. 13. My initial impressions: This surface is fast. Real fast. I wouldn't say it's too fast to practice on with the caveat of the ball return design aspect, but the true test will be when I see results out on the course. My prior putting matt was really slow and I really had trouble with speed on fast greens. We'll see how my speed control turns out over the next few weeks/months of practice on a slick surface. I have two boys under 3 years old and they absolutely love this practice putting matt as much as their dad. With that being said, I will be speaking to the durability of the matt as well as the ease of storing this massive beast. First word of advice: KEEP YOUR BOX if you plan to store this away at any point. I keep my PuttUp either stored in the box in the garage or it's in use in the living room on a wood floor. When the kids are awake, I just have the matt out with the cup bases. No incline, no bumpers (oldest thought it would be fun to smack younger brother with it within the first hour of use), no flagsticks. I can still putt with them and they can still run across it without me worrying about tearing up the surface. The PuttUp does move around a lot without the bumpers installed, but that's to be expected with the base foam. When the bumpers are installed, it keeps the overall matt from sliding and when the cup liners are installed, it keeps the matt firmly on the incline. With the PuttUp fully assembled, it's not moving. That's a big plus in my book. The matt is a closed cell polyethylene foam that really does hold it's shape, even after being rolled up and stored in the box overnight. It does take a few minutes for it to lay flat after I unroll it and any sort of impression by my heavy foot or putter disappears in about 10 seconds. The bumpers do provide a little weight to help flatten out the matt quickly and usually once I get those and the cup liners installed, it's ready to go. So far, it's returning to it's original shape as it should. Now, can it do that over a long period of time with a lot of rolling/unrolling/foot traffic? That will be a big focal point for my review. So far this has been a great tool for late night practice sessions and some fun time with the kids.
  14. I'll be happy when the Big 10 and Pac 12 join in on this circus of a season. The fact that these kids didn't have spring ball, didn't have any warm-up non-con games but are expected to go undefeated this season to have any shot at the playoffs...that's a tall order. Big 12? Dumpster fire. There are probably 4 or 5 teams that have a shot, but none will make it out without 1, prossibly 2 losses. ACC? We won't know if there's a contender besides Clemson until November. SEC? Different year but it's the same teams year after year. Regardless, college football is back and so is Mike Leach's coaching style...win a big game only to turn around and lose to a doormat.
  15. Well this beast just arrived to distract me from college football. I threw the kids down for nap and cleared out the living room... This is a good size putting matt. Time to start assembling!! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  16. For those that don't know me, my name is Shane Smith and I'm a 39 year-old lefty in The Woodlands, TX just north of Houston. I'm married with two boys under 3 with another on the way. I know what you're thinking...why? Well, it's all about compromise. The wife wanted more kids, I said let's wait...so we compromised and had more kids. It's a win-win if you ask me! Like the wife told me...we have a minivan, now let's fill it up! Yes, with strollers, booster seats, toys, snacks, etc. Magically there's no room for golf clubs anymore on family vacations. I'm a scratch golfer who plays twice a month but due to Covid and kids, I've had to take most of my practice home. I've got a driving range matt and a net for full swings, my kids pool that acts as a great chipping target, and Odyssey's finest 12' putting matt that comes in black (because most greens are black, right?!) and runs maybe a 7 or 8 on the stimp. I shouldn't complain too much about my overall setup but if there's an upgrade needed, it's the putting matt. It's razor thin, slow and follows every contour of the floor...and it's also a crumb magnet. Sometimes I wonder if I accumulated all the Goldfish, Chex Mix and Cheerio crumbs that my kids drop on it, I could make one amazing Nature Valley granola bar. FYI, if you ever come practice at my house, the living room has a nice left to right break and the entry way has a nice downhill slope to it. My game can definitely use some improvement in the putting realm. My focus over the last year has been delivering my putter face consistently to the ball and getting the ball down my intended target line. That has been achieved with great success, but at the sacrifice of speed since most of my putting has been on the crumb matt. I'm anxious and excited to see how practicing on quality turf that mimics the speed of most greens will translate out on the course. Obviously reading greens requires time out on actual greens, I'll focus more on my speed as we enter the fall and winter seasons. One of the metrics I intend to use during my testing is how this translates to the course. Here's some pics of crumb alley: I added a straight line to assist with stroke and a target line to get the ball rolling... The matt is 12' and I usually practice 6-10' putts. Crumbs...crumbs everywhere! And here's a few pics of the sled I'll be using during testing: It's a Toulon Garage Atlanta with a sight dot that I picked up off a BST site. I'm a putter ho that buys and sells a lot of putters, and for the sake of my bank account and marriage, this putter needs to last a little bit (ok, A LOT) longer than my average 4-8 weeks of use. So far, so good! I've always wanted to try a BirdieBall putting matt and now I have the opportunity thanks to MGS. Thanks y'all and I can't wait to post up the review.
  17. I’ll keep this intro brief as we all know the good stuff is in the review…my name is Shane and I live in the northern ‘burbs of Houston. I’m pushing 40, have two young boys and another girl on the way. I golf about twice a month and practice when I can. I haven’t kept an official handicap since 2019 but my Garmin Golf and Arccos Caddie App have me right around a 0.5 hcp. My scores are normally 72-76 with the occasional round closer to 70 if the putter gets hot. I play about twice a month and while I used to practice weekly, thanks to Covid, my favorite practice facility turned private. Now I have to be creative when/where/what I practice. My golfing ‘ah-ha!’ moment was in a PGA Qualifier about seven years ago and made it to the final qualifier. I was paired with Eric Axley and Michael Lietzig. Both were straight off the tee, threw darts with approach shots, but Michael could putt his balls off. Every putt was makeable within 30 feet for him. Eric dropped out after only being -1 thru 13 (-7 got you in a 4-for-2 playoff that day) but Michael then one-putted every green coming home to shoot a 65. Ever since then, I’ve tried to figure out how to properly read greens and get the right speed on just about every putt. This past year was spent rolling a ball off a 48” ruler to ensure I was getting the ball down the line. I neglected the speed aspect of putting and it showed this summer and fall. The timing of this product test couldn’t have come at a better time! First Impressions Before I even unrolled the mat, I couldn’t believe how big the box was sitting on my front porch. I thought maybe it came with a free mini fridge or staff golf bag. Nope. The mat, wedge incline and all the components filled up the box just nicely. This isn’t your ‘throw it down, practice, roll it up and go’ piece of equipment. It does take some time getting things organized/setup so this mat is probably best served to those who will have it out for extended periods of time. I'll explain in further detail under 'Ease of Use'. On to the reivew... Quality (8 out of 10 points) This mat has seen its fair share of abuse from my two sons. The oldest like to drive his trucks on it while my youngest likes to use it as a teething toy. The green fibers do fall out if you have a lot of friction on it, but it hasn’t been anything severe or one that effects putting. My oldest did manage to take his junior putter, turn it to have the toe pointing down and strike the putting surface like a hammer. There’s a small puncture mark as seen in picture below: It should be noted that this is the ONLY mark I've seen on the mat. Otherwise I've been impressed by the quality and durability. The mat base is a closed cell foam that quickly recovers to its original shape. With that being said, it does have some give to it and you will see foot prints in the green. Fear not, any impression in the mat disappears rather quickly, almost as if *gasp* you’re on a real putting green. I’ve included a video showing this process but watch how quickly the footprint disappears. There’s a subtle rise in the mat from being rolled up in storage. You can see it towards the end of the mat. It does take a little longer to flatten out, even when you attach the bumpers, but I usually have to step on it a few times to work itself out. Here’s what I’m talking about After a few minutes, you can see in the video there's still a slight rise in the mat. However, after about fifteen minutes, the surface is completely flat. Ease of Use (8 out of 10 points) The first thing you need to do is READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. My initial reaction once I opened the box was to lay down the incline, throw the cup bases down and put the mat on top. After a few minutes on the mat, I noticed it was sliding around and the holes were no longer aligned with the incline. And that was my ‘ah-ha’ moment. Read. The. Instructions. I was initially confused by the hole cups and the designated liners, but after reading the instructions, it all made sense. When they are all properly installed, including the bumpers, the mat doesn’t move around. Problem = Solved. From unpacking the mat to stroking the first putt, it takes about seven minutes (main reason why I deducted points on this section). While it’s not fast, it isn’t too much time given all the components and hole liners. Yes, I did time my assembly from start to finish and I will say you will need to add an additional minute or two in order to respond to your wife when she asks why you have to set this up during dinner time. Hey, duty calls, babe. Once the mat is ready to go, it’s open season on putts. Straight, breaking left, breaking right, short, long…it’s all available at your disposal. Basic Characteristics (20 out of 20 points) This site was created in lieu of all the outlandish claims made by club companies years ago. To build on that, I’ll exam BirdieBall’s claims on their website and fact check them based on my experience: Claim: Practice multiple putt distances on one matt. Verdict: True. There’s ample length and multiple holes to practice different length of putts. Claim: Simulate the true roll of a natural putting surface. Verdict: True. The fibers really do a good job emulating a real green surface. And as strange as it sounds, I don’t hear a big difference in auditory feedback with this mat as compared to outdoors. I don’t know if the foam base has something to do with it but that was one thing I enjoyed. Who knows, that could all be between the ears and nothing substantial to it. Claim: Have missed putts returned to you down the ramp. Verdict: TBD. I really wouldn’t know because I don’t miss putts. Claim: Practice with up to 44 golf balls at a time. Verdict: True. Claim: Perfect your distances and speed control. Verdict: True. More on that in the next section. On Course Performance (30 out of 30 points) I tend to get aggressive on greens and practicing the past 6 weeks on a mat that runs faster than an 11 on the stimp has actually been quite beneficial to one key stat: much fewer 3 putts due to distance control. According to Arccos since practicing on the PuttUp my putting stats show I’m getting half a stroke gained putting compared to other scratch golfers. But the biggest factor for me is how infrequent I three putt. I'll take that all day, every day. When you practice flat putts, you can relax the mind a bit on getting the right line and focus solely on speed. Getting consistent speed means, in my book, paying attention to the length of your back stroke. I observed how far back I was taking the putter back for a certain length of putt. I try to repeat that same stroke and tempo and before you know it, you have in your head that a 10’ putt means your backstroke is 5” in length. Simple enough, right? Here’s my setup: It's not perfect but it's a good basis for the course. Miscellaneous (5 out of 10 points) Here’s what I ultimately like about the mat: The wide range of putts I can practice Easy to setup/tear down…once you read the instructions Added weight from the bumpers to help reduce uneven surface Feels like putting on a real green The pins make ball retrieval a lot easier Here’s what I think I could do without or change: Fewer holes. Two, maybe three max. Marks on the mat to designate length from hole Sturdier bumpers that are easier to apply. Prefab hole liners. Lower price point. See Conclusion section. I would like a separate stance mat when you need to stand off the green to practice a certain putt. Standing off the mat can cause the lie angle on the putter to flatten out. Yes, that’s ticky tack on my part but I noticed the subtle change. I left the bumper on for this video just to show if you have them on, your stance might be right on top of it. Keep It or Trade it (17 out of 20) This is a keeper simply because it fits my current space, it’s durable, it stores easily, it returns to the original shape in a hurry, and I’m seeing benefits out on the course. I deducted three points because of all the flack I’m getting from the wife about the size of the BirdieBall box stored in the garage. I know, right?!? The ol gal just isn’t used to seeing something so big. Conclusion (TL; DR) Performance wise, this is a fantastic tool to practice putting indoors. It really does live up to the claims. However this mat is $349 which happens to be $100 more than if you bought a standard 4x14’ indoor BirdieBall mat. For that extra Benjamin, you get an incline that allows you to practice putts a few feet longer in length. Is that worth the extra cash? That’s something you have to answer regarding your budget and space available for practice. While I was fortunate enough to be selected for the test, I know some folks will balk at the price tag. Regardless if you buy a standard BirdieBall indoor mat or a PuttUp, BirdieBall makes one hell of a product. Final Score: 88 out of 100 points.
  18. So glad college football is back. Better go undefeated to make the playoff with the condensed schedules. Early playoff prediction: Clemson Bama/UGA/UF Ohio St Oregon/SEC #2 HEY! They make some nice baskets out there in the panhandle! And it's the University of Texas Basket Weaving. Get it right.
  19. The one thing I don't like is that Arccos doesn't allow me to play music over my bluetooth speaker while using the Caddie app. I know the Link will solve that issue but do most of y'all just use an older phone to use strictly as an Arccos link instead? I like checking my phone to see the yardage, etc, but if I have to ride around the golf course in silence one more time, I'm gonna lose my freaking mind!
  20. I swung a Krank Formula 5 back in 2014...it didn't last but a few rounds. I would probably say the biggest issue was the shaft and on top of that, the club isn't as forgiving as what you might find in a typical TM or Callaway driver. They're fun in theory but not so much on the tee box.
  21. Most important is if it makes everything inside 20'...I've gone through 40+ putters and still searching. Let me know if anyone has found a putter matching those requirements.
  22. Played this diabolical par 3 in central Texas (White Bluff Old Course) and after all these years, I thought for sure they’d cut down this oak in the middle of the tee box. Nothing like flighting down a 7 iron but then hoping it climbs high enough to the elevated green. Just a few choice words were muttered upon arrival of this hole. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  23. That Toulon palm had some significant toe hang. Think Odyssey #9. It's a beautiful putter but it might be best suited for a strong arc type stroke. If you're gaming a slight stroke type putter, the Atlanta will be your stick. I'm quietly dreaming of the Vegas in the H7 neck and still waiting for that to pop up on a BST site. Being a lefty, the Toulon line is rare on second hand markets. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  24. That's the beauty of TM adapters, they've been the same for years. Anything from the SIM to the R15 and SLDR line use the same adapter. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
