  1. Anymore I much prefer to watch the LPGA than the PGA. Outside of the big 5-7 tournaments on the PGA I really find most of the events boring. It's also easier to realte to the game the women play. Also, I have two daughters now, and I want to encourage them to pick up the game (the 4 y/o will putt with me a little bit).
  2. Wife and I worked it out that I get one day a week to go. I try to get very early tee times on Sun so I'm back home as soon as possible. 5+ hours on a weekend afternoon doesn't work.
  3. not any new courses opening in my area, or CC's going public. So I'm running out of new courses to play that are close to me. So at this point it's all ones I've been too and ones I really like.
  4. Might be time to swap the hybrid out, it's still an Adams. I think the MacGregor irons I tested are safe. Driver, 3W, wedges, and putter aren't going anywhere.
  5. I always wanted bifurcation, and there are plenty of other ways to limit distance besides changing the ball. Does any other sport change all levels of play because of the top half percent of players? Imagine Little League having to use a 60 ft. mound and 35 oz wood bats because that's what Trout and Acuna use, and where deGrom and Scherzer pitch from. To me this is just more proof that the PGA and USGA are completely out of touch with the amateur game and they way golf is played for the general public. On the other hand, I think that with 6 years of time before the rule change, all the major OEMs will have a ball that fits these new parameters and performs just as well as today's Pro Vs, TP5s, and Z-Stars.
  6. Like the other guys, we played likely our final round. I had a solid day with a 37/41 with a birdie on #5. Lost a few balls to the leaves, but it was a great afternoon. Hit the irons well and putted fantastic.
  7. I don't get the high top golf shoes, but I love the color and would totally rock them as regular tennis shoes.
  8. When we were standing on the tee, I didn't even think this hole was risk/reward. Just don't pull hook it into the junk. The long bunker on the left is only like 220 to carry from the back tees, so it's not even in play for hitting driver. And if you miss right, the slope feeds everything back down towards the green. There is a swail in the front left and unless it's really dry you're not going to climb onto the green from that angle, but you are still in position for an up and down birdie, or at least an easy par. This was also my first time playing the course, and I had a great time.
  9. So I'm a little late in reporting this to MGS, but about two weeks ago I was playing The Quarry in Canton, OH with @MaxEntropy and I eagled the 4th hole. I don't have a hole in one yet, but this was really awesome. I've got tons of eagles on par 5s, but this was the first on a par 4. The hole was about 270 yards and I just about drove the green, maybe a a foot or two of apron before the putting surface. It was a front pin and I made the roughly 15 footer for eagle. Is this actually more rare than a hole in one?
  10. Yep, these irons have stayed in my bag. I hit them the same distance as my previous set of Titleist CBs, which I like because I don't have to change anything else in my bag to adjust for yardage gaps. Also, I hit them higher with the KBS shafts, and they are far more forgiving than the CBs as well. So I am happy with these clubs and will keep them in the bag for next year as well.
  11. Well it was an up and down front nine with the spies at Ashland GC this Sunday for a 42. Then I got going on the back for a 37 with 3 birdies. Two of them were on shortish par-5s I was green high in two and able to chip it inside 5 feet. The other was a big uphill breaker on 18 with at least 2 feet of movement that I buried. It was an awesome day with perfect weather and the course was a ton of fun to play.
  12. I had figured but we're not locked in. No idea how hilly the course is.
  13. It's a former private club, designed by Willie Park. Not sure who that is, but a cursory online seatch shows he was another big architect in the 1920s. Worked with Donald Ross on a few courses too, so I'm expecting that.
  14. @MattF @Mr_Theoo @MaxEntropy I have us booked for 10:03 AM on Oct 1. See you there. If anyone one else wants to play, there are plenty of other available times at the moment.
  15. That's good for me too. I'm exactly an hour away.
  16. @Mr_Theoo @MattF @MaxEntropy Ashland's website has tee times posted already for the 1st. They are wide open so 8:15 is the earliest, what time do we want? It's $45 for 18+cart so pretty good price too. When I make the time I will call and book to make sure they're not aerated that weekend.
  17. Looking for a headcount/time for Ashland CC on Sunday Oct 1. I have @Mr_Theoo and @MattF in. Will @MaxEntropy be our fourth? Anyone else interested? As far as tee time goes, the course is just about an hour from me, so I can do anytime. I'd like to tee off before 1 if we could make that happen.
  18. I do read the labs and the ball test. But I find that their rating of 0-100 is arbitrary at best and based on far too small a sample size. I don't understand how one ball that is 3% bad gets an 80 and another ball that is 3% bad gets a 90. Same for the ball test, given that they test in Arizona in the middle of summer I take all the numbers with a grain of salt. Mostly because my playing environment is nothing like that. Though in the ball test, it was nice to see the balls I like all grouped together. Though it was interesting to see how the TP5 scored, it's probably my 2nd favorite ball right now.
  19. I have the same membership as @MattF though I'm a little behind him. I've played enough that this year I've got my money worth. I need 2-3 more rounds this season and that will make all of 2024 gravy as well.
  20. That sounds great to me. Do we want something early afternoon? Who else is in? @MattF @MaxEntropy @gmmiddle @tobybtlr @RollingGreens and please add anyone else I missed.
  21. Can't do the 17th but could do the 24th or Oct 1st. I would rather meet in the middle at like Ashland or Deer Ridge, but I could do something off that list I posted for anything on the north side of Columbus.
  22. I think there are certain clubs in the bag you need to have faith in. Must have confidence in the driver, but you also need a backup because there are those rounds where driver just isn't working and you need something to get you in play off the tee. For that I go to my hybrid. It's important to know your carry numbers with irons and have a favorite distance. For me that is my 8i (165) and 50* wedge (125). If I'm having an off day, I try to play for those distances off the tee. Have one wedge that works for you all the way around the green, I use my low bounce 58* for nearly everything.
  23. Music doesn't bother me, but I'm not out there to listen to music. I'm lisening to the sounds of nature and the peace of the golf course.
