  1. On the two occasions my watch went wacky on the 16th hole and stopped recognizing tags (despite that still showing some shots on each of the last three holes though misplaced along with the clubs used), the read tag function in settings would not recognize any tags, new or old.
Question. Have you checked to see if the watch will read tags now, after the round?

I didn’t check but I will when I get home.

  2. This morning, I had the opportunity to play 9 holes. Everything was going smoothly during the round until I got to the last hole. Unfortunately, after my approach to the green, my watch suddenly went back to the clock display, which messed up my tracking.

During the round, my interaction with the watch was minimal. I only checked the distance of two of my drives, and there was no other significant interaction.

The tags worked well for tracking my shots, but unfortunately, my watch stopped working on the last hole.

During my game, I made use of the auto-putting feature but manually noted down the distances of each putt for editing later. Although the GPS tracking at ground level had some minor inconsistencies, the auto-putting function performed satisfactorily in general.

Throughout the round, I regularly checked to ensure that my tags were properly capturing my shots, and up until the last hole, I was prepared to provide a positive review with no issues. Unfortunately, the unexpected interruption during the final hole disrupted the GPS tracking. I am unsure of the exact cause for the tracking failure.

I eagerly anticipate the release of the next firmware update, hoping that it will address these issues and provide a more seamless experience in future rounds.

  3. I've played a couple more rounds with the watch and every time the when I go to sync my score, the watch score and the app score are different.  And once my actual score was a third number, lol.  Of course, that's all user error.  While I want to like the scoring feature, until it actually keeps score and isnt reliant on me, its not too useful to me.
On the plus side, I don't think I've had the watch crash on me, and the courses are loading faster than before.

Interesting I have not had that issue with the scorecard feature. Looks like another potential bug.

  4. Is there any more reviews of X5 usage? I have the V2 and V3. The V3 was a step backwards in terms of shot detection. I am wondering if this has improved with the X5. With the V2 shots would often register even if you didnt take a practice swing as long as you had the club in your hand for a long enough period of time. I have not had a round with the V3 where it has captured all shots yet and it's getting frustrating.

There are tons of reviews on this page and others. Bottom line: Some users are experiencing various issues while others are not. The current issue now is the X5 will cut out mid-round. Customer service is aware and is planning to do a firmware soon. Other users are not experiencing any issues.

  5. From what I am reading it looks like the issues with the X5 are being addressed, though perhaps slowly.  I am wondering if it is now time to buy?  I believe I will put it on my 'wish list' for fathers day. In that way, if I receive one as a gift, and it turns out to be a disappointment, at least I will not be out the cash!

Lol...Yes, customer service is working to address the current issues. I'm hoping a firmware will be dropped this week. A fathers Day gift would be a good idea. If you search the forum, I believe there is a $30 day offs code somewhere.

  6. I'm positive the ! is to indicate that you missed putting a score into a hole. I used the scoring once and had it happen a couple of times which prompted me to go back until I saw where it was wrong and fix it.

For the time being, I think the scoring option is a waste of time until it syncs with the swings and recorded putts or somehow overrides the score the watch thinks you made.

On a positive note, I missed 2 shots yesterday, one was a putt from off the green and the other was me not recording 2 putts on the green.

Good point. I have been using the scorecard options for years with my old Garmin, and it never synced with my shots. That is when I realized it's a scorecard not a shot tracker. It would probably cause more problems by counting ghost swings.

  7. I was thrilled to take my X5 out for a round of 18 holes at my club. With its three separate 9-hole courses, I was particularly excited to try out the back 9 feature for the first time. Everything started off smoothly as I completed the front 9 and began playing the back 9.

However, while on the 10th green, I accidentally entered the wrong score. Realizing my mistake, I accessed the menu to correct the score and selected the 11th hole on the scorecard, intending to prepare for the next hole. As I stood on the tee box, I noticed that the pin collect was still up, indicating that I had failed to enter my score for the 10th hole. To my dismay, I had actually entered the score for the 11th hole, which I was about to play.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to delete the score before it was my turn to tee off. Frustrated, I exited the menu and kept my watch ready for the 11th hole. However, when I hit my drive, I noticed that my watch didn't register my tag. I even tapped my club against the watch during my next shot, but it still failed to read the tag.

Desperate to resolve the issue before teeing off on the 12th hole, I attempted to exit my round and reenter it. However, my tags still wouldn't read. Reluctantly, I finished the 12th hole and proceeded to the 13th. It wasn't until I reached my ball on the 13th hole that I decided to do a hard reset. Finally, the tags started reading properly, and I experienced no further issues on the 14th and 15th holes.

Unfortunately, on the 16th hole, as I was preparing to putt after hitting an approach shot slightly off the green, I noticed a message asking if I wanted to exit the pin collect. It turns out that my glove was inadvertently pushing against the button, triggering the message. Without thinking much, I responded with a "yes." To my disappointment, my tags stopped registering once again when I went to putt. At that point, I gave up and finished the round without relying on the tags.

Based on my experience, it seems there might be a software bug related to exiting the pin collect or entering scores for holes that haven't been played yet. I could only get my tags to read by performing a hard reset. I plan to share this incident with the group, but I will also email customer service to describe what happened to me this morning. I'm confident that a firmware update will be developed to address and resolve this issue.

  8. If you are trying to compare stats between putter, you need to change what putter s associated with the putter tag in you bag on the dashboard.   Having a second putter tag only means you don’t have to take the tag off the other putter.

Thanks, so do I add a second putter to my bag? I did name my first putter. I was under the assumption when I put my new putter into play; the X5 would register it as a new unnamed putter.

  9. As a 'service' to Shotscope we should compile a list of 'nice to haves'
    I'll start:
Data in the dashboard exportable to a spreadsheet.

The ability to create your own watch shortcuts. I don’t use the move flag but would like to have a feature that I use regularly without going through the menu to find it.

  10. Once they straighten out the firmware for the X5 - that would be my next recommendation, even I'll bet that the 9's shotgun issue applies to just a few of us here as most play on a traditional 18 hole course. On those, of course, you can just toggle back to the #1 hole.

Concur, once the major issues are worked out, the nice-to-have features can be addressed.

  11. I'm speaking along the lines of the Approach metric below.  According to the app, my average is +104ft compared to a 0 handicap which means that half of their graph would still be the 60+ orange bar.

Or the Score Breakdown that stops at double bogey+.  I still have many holes that are worse and it's both difficult and somewhat frustrating to determine if I'm improving.

Here is a potentially good video on approach shots

  12. I will say as a lower handicap player,  there are a lot of stats and it requires effort to dig in and understand what to actually work on.   Strokes Gained is nice,  but there is so much detail behind that one metric.

Yes, their stats require some deeper digging into, but I will say they have a few good videos on their YouTube page that goes into some of the details.

A suggestion would be a quick summary page that states your top three/four areas to improve and your strengths. This way, I can look at those areas for more details

    Hello All,

Why did the ShotScope release the X5????????  I played my first round with the product today and all I can say is Meh!

    • Is is supposed to maintain score.  Does it really.  All the X5 gives you the ability to enter putts.  Then the watch makes the assumption that one has hit the green in regulation.   As a 15 handicapper, I may hit 5 or 6 holes in regulation.  The X5 does not add up the strokes it took to get to the green and does not give you the ability to even enter those strokes manually.  The running score on the watch is valueless.
    • It allows you the ability to change the pin location.  However, the software on the watch is "chunky" and requires many steps to get to that screen to adjust the pin location. Besides, do you really know the pin location until you get close to the hole?  To me, it does not seem to be worth the effort.
    • How long was the last shot?   Version 3 does this as well.  But the X5 requires far more effort and takes numerous manipulations of the watch get this information.

My overall impression of the X5 is that it "fiddly" and attempts to do things that it does not do very well.

So why was this product released?  Other than being round, does the X5 really do anything different or better than version 3?

Please help me understand why I need X5 instead of version 3.  I don't get it?

    Don

    Don,

You should post this in the Shot Scope User's group.

  14. According to a SS support person - firmware update coming in 1-2 weeks.

Although I appreciate the positive feedback from those who have experienced Shot Scope's exceptional customer service, as a new user, I am disappointed with my experience so far. Despite attempting hard resets and even placing aluminum foil over my head (jk), I have been unable to gain a GPS signal and my watch essentially functions as a brick. I would appreciate a statement from Shot Scope regarding their timeline for an update.

While I have reached out to customer support and would appreciate a direct response, I also joined Shot Scope's Facebook user group upon joining the service. It would be reassuring to see a message acknowledging the issues and providing a timeline for a firmware update. Currently, I am receiving conflicting information from various users regarding when the update will be released, which does not instill confidence that my X5 will be ready for use this weekend.

Until I see tangible progress, I must express my frustration as a disappointed X5 user.

  15. I had a gps access issue the other day where it was taking a long time to acquire the gps sats- i got out of the gps/tracking using the back button then went back into play/gps/tracking and it immediately acquired gps sat. and then the course.

I wish it was that easy. I did that too nothing happened. When I got home I just set my watch on my back yard railing nothing happened. Meanwhile, my 6-year-old Garmin S20 acquire a GPs says in a few seconds.

All I'm saying is their really needs to be a firmware released soon.

  16. There appears to be a deeper issue beyond just the firmware update, as I have been unable to obtain a GPS signal all day. I began attempting to acquire a signal 35 minutes prior to my tee time, but after an hour of trying, I gave up. Fortunately, I had a backup watch to rely on.

Even throughout my round, I continued to attempt to get a signal without success. After finishing, I attempted to acquire a signal while eating, but still had no luck. Seven hours later, I am still attempting to get a signal with no success. It is unacceptable to have a golf watch that cannot acquire a signal, and it is incredibly frustrating.

I am unsure if my watch is faulty or if there is another issue at play. For the record, I did two hard restarts today before anyone asks.

  17. Good question.  I didn't change it from the factory setting, so I assumed it's in auto because there were instructions on how to set it to manual.  Plus, some holes it does record the approximately correct locations of the putts.

I only bring that up because those two feet putts sound like it's in manual. Yesterday when my tags stopped working on me, my last hole showed 2 feet putts, but my other holes it showed the distances.

Check to see what the setting is for putting.

  18. I assumed that the tee box question was more for determining course rating/slope for strokes gained calculations.  There's no way the program could know where the tees are set on a day-to-day basis.
I was hoping that the X5 would have had a better GPS location accuracy than the V3, but it seems to be the same.  The V3 seemed to be better about discriminating about the location of putts on the green.  With the X5 I get a notable amount of holes where it looks like all my putts are with a foot from the hole.  I'll be the first to admit that I can, and have, missed from 2 feet.  However, I also know for a fact, that I rarely hit an approach shot to within 2 feet of the hole.

On the putts are you doing manual or auto?
