  1. I sent these off one at a time to LabWorx. Very happy with them. Had the shafts done. Sent them the grip I wanted them to use. Ive also sent an old Scotty Studio Design back to Cameron’s shop and they of course did an awesome job, but it was pricey, and it too a good long while. LabWorx had a lot of flexibility in what they’d do. I’d go there again.
  2. BirdieBall makes a set of hole reducers. I’m not wild about the half moon shapes that cover half the hole, but I really really like this style. The package had two of these, one as thick as the mat, and one twice the thickness - which for their regular mats you use an extra cup base and another ring to raise the mat up, but for the PuttUp works great for the deeper holes. So anxious to get out on the course, but between work, rain, and the fact our grass is just now starting to green up it hasn’t happened yet. Trying to make the most of my inside practice - the chipping (above), varying my putting practice... The mat has been with me all winter in my hotel (work’s home away from home). Even when I’m not practicing I walk across it every day . I gotta say, I’ve seen no damage, impact or wear and tear. It just springs back. Granted, I have no kids to take a divot out of it, and no dogs to try and dig a hole in it. I stand on it while swinging my OrangeWhip, but make no ground contact other than my stance. No signs of wear around the cups. The edges are still sharp - though I don’t use the hole liners for all the cups.
  3. I typically read MGS on my iPad. Where that ad show up at the bottom is particularly annoying. I know they gotta pay for this somehow - but it would be better on the side bar
  4. After sailing a wedge over the fence into the yard of the neighbor of my neighbor - I only used my wedges with the chipping net. I also make sure my ball position is 9 feet from the back of the net and have had zero problem - but glad that “roof” thing is there. Frankly I really only hit a few clubs - driver, six iron and use all my wedges for pitches and chips. The chipping net is more of a pitching net It can be addictive.
  5. Glad you liked it. I really like mine. I’ve got a fenced in back yard and rather than fold it up, I just pull out the poles and let it lay flat. It has just enough weight the wind doesn’t catch it, and the rain doesn’t hurt it. And lying flat She Who Must Be Obeyed doesn’t see it. Packed it up for the winter but if the rain holds off it’ll be up this weekend.
  6. One length iron set.... there are always a few guys asking questions, curious but hesitant to take the leap. Gra five or six and put them in a full set from L wedge to hybrid and have them play a set amount of time. Maybe test a few skills like how does it impact their bunker play... but they have to be folks who’ve never tried them before. also, I’ve got cobras but it’d be nice to see mixing it up with another manufacturer of single length irons.
  7. Cool. Hope you like it as much as I like mine. Make sure you find a place to share your results.
  8. I’ve got a BagBoy Quad - I suppose I could start a Go Fund Me, test it out and submit a review...
  9. I may not be the best person to answer that. They made the PuttUp intentionally fast to get the ball to roll back to you if you miss. I would think the medium speed mat would be ok. If you are looking for a specific stimp speed email them and ask. They are a family business and very responsive. I thought my PuttOut mat was too slow. My BB is much faster. But you sound like you are looking for something in between. I hate to punt, but I also don’t want you grumbling about that idiot from Iowa in the future... Call or email them and ask about specific speed. The clearly have rolls of different turf.
  10. What are you hearing about the battery? They say you can use your V1; but are you saying it pulls more juice? I’ve always gotten 18 holes out of mine never tried for more. I’ve always got a couple lights left... I’m an 18 or 36 kind of guy with an occasional bout of 54 hole madness - in which case I was riding the replays. my one complaint about the battery is though the charge is there it just seems a bit slower on the back nine can’t get the same speed as I had on the first couple of holes I’ve seen those ClubCars at some high end resorts - but never one in action. Again, I just like to send the cart out ahead of me.
  11. I’m looking at the same thing (web page tab has been open for a week now in my background) I love my eWheels, but it does tend to want to continually veer off to the left and I have a lot of side hills so the gyroscope has me intrigued. More torque and speed would be nice too. id also love to hear some unvarnished stories of how well their “tether” has worked. Just seems a bit odd to me, but on their web site they seem to have a bunch of fans. I dunno, I’m just used to following the cart rather than it follow me. My biggest fear frankly is stripping those little hex screws. I’ve had to replace the battery. It was an easy procedure so I’m not worried about replacing the components. If I can do it anyone can. But I did have trouble getting those screws on the faceplate out. So I’d need to either have them send me some more or find a suitable replacement at the hardware store.
  12. I would say the surface is like I just pulled it out of the box - of course I did that back in late September. I have no signs of wear or tear. The edges of the holes are nice and crisp. I have to sweep or pick some lint off it occasionally. But it’s in new condition. Full disclosure I have no small children or dogs - and the cats don’t do anything to it. I’m on it probably five days out of seven. It’s been in and out of the box a dozen times. Here at the hotel I walk a-crossed it even if I’m not putting or chipping daily as it’s in the middle of the floor. It’s spongy and has a bit of give by design, but just like a real green your tracks disappear immediately. One of the other reviewers had to order a fill kit after his kid took a divot out of it - you might message him and ask how it turned out. I’ll see if I can prod the guys into posting some long term experience, durability experiences.
  13. They aren’t hidden, but if you are there you’ll have just as much fun on the New and a jubilee (at least my group of 20 did) and most thought (to my chagrin) the best of the bunch was KingsBarns. Nearby - Crail - unless the NLU boys make in-hidden it. But honestly, you need to rent a car/van/bus w driver and head north. My highlights were Cruden Bay and Royal Aberdeen - not exactly hidden gems either but awesome. But on the road you will just drive past so many courses you’ll see from the side of the road you can just stop at. it’s the wrong island, but when I made my bucket list trip to Ireland we drove ourselves and happened to drive through Bandon Ireland. Sure enough there was a golf course there (complete w castle) so we stopped, asked and played. Was never on the itinerary.
  14. Assuming this is for inside, and not a permanent installation - Take a hard look at BirdieBall. I’m currently using their PuttUp, and involved in the review of that; but they make all sorts of sizes. And before you say “I don’t need a hole, that’s what the PuttOut is for”... you can use both. I had (still have in my closet) the PuttOut mat, but I thought it was slow, and I literally wore a groove down the center. So beware of carpet like things. I’m really impressed w the quality of the BirdieBall turf. They don’t have all the lines and markings that some like Wellputt or PuttOut do - and I see that value. But I’ve got other training aids to help me on alignment. I like the turf. It’s thick enough you can lay on top of carpet - assuming is like a firm Berber and not shag - I laid a piece of plywood down in the room with shag as it’s just too soft. You can chip onto it. It doesn’t get a groove. It’s got good speed - in fact for most of their products you can pick from three speeds.
  15. Love the video - made me laugh (probably shows my age...) Question about the mirror - I have their first iteration. I wasn’t keen on their path aids (which it looks like they are skipping on this narrower one) but what always got stuck in my mind was the the notch the ball sits in... to me it seemed like in kept the ball from really starting off line... could have just been a me thing, but I quit using it altogether and went back to my Pelz trainer w the marbles. I’m curious what you experience w the notch. Also (dumb question) I don’t see the difference between the trainer version one and this new version... how is it really different? I mean the “micro target” doesn’t have a hole... but the ball still has to stick there. What am I missing? Enjoy your addiction.
  16. On of the things I really liked about the ProPutt System was the ability to build to what you wanted and customize it. They were patient. I did a lot of emailing back and forth with Brian at ProPutt asking questions - can I do this, how does this work, what would you recommend for that. It all looks simple enough now - but I'm a planner and don't want surprises. This was my concept drawing This was their engineers design with all the base pieces
  17. Your own range... every golfers dream - but most of us don't have the land, so we settle for hitting nets and monitors... I share the desire to practice at home - and am starting to chronicle it here:
  18. Settling on what hitting mat to get was the most research intensive part of my search. What can I take full shots off of, won't bounce the club through the ball, have some realistic feel, and save my joints. I'd looked at Fiberbuilt, the Country Club Elite, and Rain or Shine's house brand. The key selling points for me ultimately was the ability to customize the whole project - put the hitting turf where I wanted it in the green. I've got a series of pictures here of just exactly what the True Strike mat looks outside and in... The hitting piece comes as a pretty hefty self contained piece. I've kept it indoors over the winter as they recommend so the gel packs don't freeze. This pad is 14 inches by 35 inches. It has clips all around it to keep the turf held down over the top of the gel and the frame. Here you can see the top removed (you can see the end clips that insert into the base, not pictures are some clips that fasten along the side. You can see the gel in the middle and a mat that extends over a very firm foam that makes up the rest of the base. Here I flipped up the gel pack out of its position. I'm pushing pretty firmly here. It has give, but its not overly spongy. Something I was actually concerned about with the Fiberbuilt - that it would be too easy to glide through it. The modular base pieces are all roughly 2 foot by 2 foot squares. To fit True Strike in, they custom cut a hole into two of the base pieces. A better look at the base piece - you can see how they interlock. And the underside view This circular piece here is the chipping pad base. It is four corner pieces fastened together. You can see the holes where the putting cups would be placed, and they provided inserts to cover/fill them with you you can stand on it. You can see to the side I have all the other pieces stacked up. Hopefully everything dries out this week, and we can pack the pea gravel next weekend.
  19. This is the first in a series of posts on what I hope will be my ultimate back yard set up. I'll walk you through the process, mistakes I've made, what I've learned and experienced as we do this. Last summer I was on the hunt for an artificial turf putting green I could put in my back yard AND a hitting mat, preferably all in the same unit. Something big enough I can set a net on (Sporina as you'll see later) and also a Mevo+ at the other end. I want to have a number of different putts - including some long ones, and I want some fairway and rough to practice pitch shots and chipping. That's all I want... After a lot of research, pricing comparisons, emails and phone calls evaluating several different competitors I found everything I wanted with the ProPutt System. They took their "Green Monster" model, and in addition to the four cups/holes in the corners made just one middle cup/hole specifically positioned where I can use the Mevo+ for putting, and then cut space in the base to insert a TrueStrike hitting mat/insert. Also added their two turf chipping pad which I'll set off off the edge to use for my pitches and chips. I spent too much time hem-hawing arounds trying to get everything just so - and by the time I placed my order in October, they were up to a six week backlog, and a wait on the True Strike mat. So by the time it finally arrived, well, the golf season in Iowa was over and my neighbor who was going to help me build the base system with pea gravel and tamp it all down convinced me to wait until spring to construct it. I had no idea how big/bulky the stuff I ordered was going to be. I had to make sure was home for UPS Freight to do a drop shipment at the edge of my driveway. The driver was nice enough to let me use his pallet jack to haul everything to my back porch where it would sit for the winter. The one thing that did get put to use this fall/winter has been the turf for the chipping pad. It is about four feet in diameter. So I rolled it up, and hauled it to the hotel I work out of all winter long to practice chipping onto a BirdieBall Mat (see other official review of that). I have to say, I've been very impressed with the quality and realistic feel of this mat. The chipping mat is 4 feet in diameter, and the "rough" is supposed to be 1.75 inches high. Enough you can push most of a ball into it. One of the things I think is particularly impressive is that it is not just the blades of grass, but it also has this cork screw like "thatch" in the rough as well. It absolutely grabs the club when you chip out of the rough. I've hit plenty of fat shots out of there this winter. The fairway portion of the chipping pad is exactly what you'd expect. It all has some give to it. I'll get a better picture to post of just exactly how think it all is. It is basically two different pieces of turf sticked together and sealed on the bottom. Ive made a few full swings off the fairway portion, but haven't tried a full swing yet out of the rough. Looking forward to giving some pitches a try. I expected some loose blade of grass, and sure enough I've had some. I'm always finding a blade of grass somewhere in the hotel. I lost almost all of these the first weekend, since then its just the occasional single blade, but they still show up. Next up - the TrueStrike hitting mat and base panels.
  20. No, and I don’t know there are plans to do so... however, there is another completely private club being built right next door by Gil Hanse by the name of CapRock Ranch. You can see a few holes from the 13-15 of the Dunes course at the Prairie Club. The PClub apparently sold them some of their land.
  21. I wish I did... it’s a 15-20 minute drive from my house. I’m really looking forward to it. Never been to Sweetens but it’s on the to do list. I can’t wait to see what Landmand is like. Been following the developments on Twitter. Lot of great golf in Nebraska. Also belong to the Prairie Club - a four hour sojourn once a month in season for a weekend.
  22. That is the drawback - most places you go like Golf Galaxy or an Austads look at you like you’ve grown a third eye... As I said, I worked off the fitting I did w my old Pings for the length of my 8 iron, and the lie (I’m a little flat). I knew that was the standard length I wanted. I ordered them thru my club pro, and he recommended we not tinker with that in the ordering, and then when they arrive just go to the range and hit them all off a lie board, and mark the balls. (Not going down that rabbit hole...) and we’d bend them If we needed to. I definitely had to have my Forged TEC Blacks bent. So that worked well enough for me. The biggest trick is if you ever want to tinker with shafts. You need to get on the phone w the shaft company and talk thru where/how they need to be cut and trimmed and exactly what to order. I’d love to find a place like a club champion and a fitter w some experience in single length.
