  1. Your argument has merit, but the rule exists for all players, not just those competing on the PGA Tour. It pertains to the guy playing his club championship, the city championships, and all other amateur, as well as professional, events. While it would be difficult to pull off at the PGA level, it would be far more foreseeable as an egregious attempt to cheat at a less visible event such as a club championship.
  2. I've been driving the ball fairly well for the most part, but, out of nowhere, I'll get trapped, slide forward, and hit a huge push fade/slice. So, today, I worked on initiating the downswing, focusing on weight transfer and clearing my hip (without spinning out or sliding laterally too far forward). Also working on relaxing the grip more.
  3. After having to punch out back into the fairway following an errant drive, I had a 58 yard pitch left. Gripped down to the metal on the shaft of my 56 degree sand wedge, took a slow back-swing to 9:00 and turned through the ball. The ball flew on a nice trajectory, hit just left of the pin, and spun to a stop for a tap in par.
  4. 81 today .... and of course.... 3 doubles to get there.
  5. The double bogey man was back at it today. +1 on the front (37), then on #12 dogleg right, I put one into the trees near the OB. Hit a provisional and didn't find the first ball -- double bogey. Then on #17, lost another one right and never found the ball (not OB)...went back to the tee box and another double. To add insult to injury, I double bogey 18 to limp in with an 80. Had one birdie for the day -- not enough to make up for the 3 doubles. Club Championship is in 10 days. I've got to get this double bogey mess out of my head!
  6. The bad news is that I had on OB and piss-poor putted my way to an 85 today. The good news is....who am I kidding? There is no good news about my game today.
  7. What is this double bogey free round you speak of? I know nothing of it.
  8. Brutal day. Putts either short or burning the edge ALL day long. Couldn't buy a putt, whether it was for birdie, par, or bogey. Had 4 double bogeys for the round and shot 83. No birdies, just pars, bogeys, and the doubles. Frustrating day.
  9. oh, I didn't mention the pars and bogeys? Just another "I can't avoid doubles" comment
  10. A double and 3 birdies for a 6 over, 78.
  11. No, I play MTB-X and have never noticed that.
  12. Basic fee has really gone up since last time I played there, which has been well over a decade. It was (suggested) $25-50 + tip. He double carried and we gave him $100 total.
  13. Mr Double Bogey has done it again. 39 on the front with a double, 39 on the back with another double for a smooth 6 over 78. Both doubles were just lack of concentration -- i.e. no penalty, just dumb azz play. And, despite have numerous birdie opportunities today, I squandered them. To my credit, we're in a really hot spell (100*+) and the super is pouring the water to the greens and fairways in an attempt to stay ahead of the heat. Greens are soft and running slow right now.
  14. I've played with a few people that putted from the other side from their normal play. I guess it was because they were naturally left handed, but learned to play right handed due to non-availability of clubs for left handers at the time they started playing.
  15. I took my 3 wood out of play to add a 52* wedge and narrow my gap to 48/52/56/60 ... Been playing without the 3 wood for 3 weeks now and not really missing it.
  16. Played a couples tournament today -- Another Chapman format. I partnered with one of club's widows (my wife doesn't play, but she encourages me to play as a partner for our club members that do not have a partner (single, widowed, sick hubby, whatever) --- I'm the local fill-in rent a partner. Anyway....I was pleased with my ball striking today, putting was mediocre. My partner didn't have a very good day, but we had fun. We played 6somes and one of the men in our group aced #9 par 3 (playing 135 yards). Interestingly enough, that wasn't the only ace on that hole from the same tees today. Another friend of mine also aced it from the senior tees. That's me all the way in the back....maintaining our social distancing. My playing partner is on the left in the Puma hat. And the guy holding up his finger got the hole in one.
  17. 78 today, including a double bogey when I hit my second shot from the fairway bunker OB (par 5). Ball was fairly close to the left edge of the bunker and below my feet. Hit it well, but a slight pull that bounded through the fairway and ended up just outside of the stakes.
  18. Better ball striking today, so I shouldn't whine, but darn it! I double bogeyed #8 when I hit my drive OB and then doubled #16 when I pulled my approach shot into the bank of the pond and it trickled in (actually the poor pitch over the pond after the drop is what caused it, tho) to shoot 39/40 for the day. @chisag -- some insightful pearls of wisdom on your recent posts! Enjoyed them as they reminded me of my mantra that I try to live my life by: "I used to cry because I had no shoes and then I met a man who had no feet".
  19. Ping Driver, Taylor Made hybrids, Callaway irons, Cleveland Wedges, Odyssey putter, Snell golf balls
  20. Day 2 of our Chapman mixed tournament. My playing partner and I just didn't ham and egg it too well today. Sadly, we each left one another with impossible shots here and there. On one of the par 3 holes, she hit a great shot, but it rolled thru the green and into the back bunker. I wasn't too worried about the sand until we got to the green and I saw where it lay smack dab against the back wall, giving me zero chance of hitting the ball anywhere but sideways. My driver was ill behaved today and I hit some real stinkers. But the worst part was missing a 1 foot par putt. We shot 39/44 today to come in with a NET 72. We obviously didn't place in the money zone. But we had fun! EDIT: I was wrong. Just found out that our 6 man team (flight A,B,C) placed 3rd net for $10 per person....pro shop credit.
  21. Round one of couples chapman tournament : Other than a double and a +5-9, we played decent. 7 over on 2 holes and limped in with an 86 gross. Round two begins in a couple of hours. Here's to no bad holes today! :D
  22. So, the Seniors and the Ladies had our annual mixed scramble. Minimum 3 drives per player format. We did okay. Nothing great and certainly didn't win, but we did have fun. We shot a 3 under par round. We had my 8 handicap, a 29, a 23, and a 17 handicap player for our team. Distance was an issue for 2 of them, but we all contributed. I think we used my drive 8 times. My best shot was when we took one of the ladies tee shots on a shorter par 4 and were 175 yards out and my approach left us with a 4 foot putt .... yes, we did make the putt.
  23. Chips from 5-20 yards from pin using 52, 56, and 60 degree wedges. Worked on landing spots, controlling trajectory and spin/run out.
  24. After last weekend's round at a course other than my home course where I played well, I was hoping that I was beginning to see a turn-around from my poor play of recent. Nope! Played my home course today and stunk it up with an 86 (back to back 43s).
  25. Unless you have a really out of whack golf swing, it likely wouldn't make much difference. Slight changes can be adjusted later (i.e. loft/lie) if needed.
