  1. Better day today. Pretty solid golf except for 2 holes that I doubled (both par 5 holes on the backside both of which should never have been doubles (bonehead!!!!)). 79.
  2. I'm traveling in a motorhome, so it's do-able for me to make it. That said, perhaps delaying it for a bit might be a consideration?
  3. ummmm...they're the same ones, no doubt -- chunked chips, leaving putts short, you know the drill....lol
  4. I know about those! I call it chipping tourettes
  5. My left foot and leg, along with both replaced knees, pretty much keeps me riding these days. Walking is just too taxing on me, anymore.
  6. Bonehead mistakes led to 41/41 with a double on each side.
  7. The goal is to obtain the lowest score ... whatever works (legally) is fair game. I have a friend who is a great chipper and never putts if he's off the green. Others putt from far off the green because they can't chip worth a hoot. I typically will chip unless I'm fairly close to the green and hole and feel a putt would serve me better than a missed chip.
  8. Yes, they're a lot of fun -- from brutal pin placements on the side of breaks, to bricks blocking the hole with small areas to putt through, smaller holes, holes on mounds....he really tricks it up. We generally have a US Open style tournament also, where they trick up the course (but without fake stuff) -- just make it very hard with fast greens, tougher rough, etc. Expect higher scores!
  9. The struggle is real. 42/42 today with 2 doubles and a triple helping get that score up there. Handicap has got to go up soon as the sub 80 rounds are getting replaced with mid to upper 80 rounds. Next Friday, our course is having a 2 man Greens keeper revenge tournament. My partner is also not playing his norm. We've got a week to get our act together. LOL
  10. For me, you made a conscious decision to abandon the original ball, and the 2nd ball is now in play. In my group, you would not have been given the latitude to play the original ball in the case you mentioned, but they're a bunch of cut-throats when it comes to a dollar. However, you're not playing a tournament and the only one affected by your decision is you. If you're okay with whichever decision you go with, then fine.
  11. An absolute disaster of a day on the links! I only hit 2 greens in regulation, birdieing one hole with a 25 foot putt and 3 putting the other one from 18 feet. Only managed to get up and down for one par, but did manage to bungle 2 holes for doubles. Shot a wonderful 89...good news is that it was only 8 over my handicap since I was playing the back tees with some of the younger guys. Oh well...better days ahead?
  12. Integrity of the golfer (as always) comes into play when determining what score to write down and what score to actually post when there is a disagreement within the group as to whether the ball was holed or not.
  13. Tough call, particularly on a shot of any distance. It's one thing to make a judgement call on a putt, but even that's questionable if the pace is strong. Personally, I'd opt for "nay". Same thing just happened to Jordan Spieth. He counted it for his total number of aces, but his playing partners made him take the double bogey (his ball careened off the green and into the water, I think).
  14. A glimmer of hope on the horizon? 79 (+7) for the day.
  15. I continue to struggle with my game and today was no exception. Had I not been putting halfway decent, it would have been far worse than my final tally of 84.

My eyes are just inside the ball, the ball just forward of center
  17. It was somewhere in my 30s when I bought a set of clubs and played "some" golf, but not much. When I retired from the service at age 38, I found the passion to play and began regularly. I'm 68 now, so playing the game for 30 years, but fiddled around with it for more like 35.
  18. Got back on the course yesterday and today. Yesterday, played a 2 man best ball game with the Seniors. I had some issues with my chipping and I wasn't putting particularly well on the recently punched and sanded greens and ended up shooting an 82. My higher handicapped partner (assigned by the club) picked up a bogey putt on #17 with the reasoning that I was already in with a bogey. The problem was that he stroked on that hole. We were out of a tie for first by, you guessed it!, ONE shot! Oh well! Today I shot a 42 on the front with 2 doubles and a 38 on the back for an 80 (over my handicap, but....). Couldn't find a birdie for the day ... then again, neither did the other 3 players in my foursome. We had 3 of us with the same handicap and one player who was a 16 handicap, so we played 6-6-6, giving the higher handicap player 4 strokes every 6 holes. I ended up winning 1st ball on the first six, pushing both balls on the 2nd six, and won both balls when paired with the higher handicap player. Good to be back on the course again!
  19. I believe they're discontinuing this model. Perhaps an improved version is coming or already available.
  20. The power of the almighty dollar at work!
  21. I don't like them! I have seen good putts rejected. While I may want to count it as good, my opponents will likely call foul. Our club used the shallow cup (with pool noodle insert) but someone complained that people were touching the flagpole and could spread the virus (????), so they went back to the raised cup, which is even more difficult to claim the putt is good IMO. I'll be glad when we go back to standard cups (for more reasons than the obvious).
  22. I've played city muni courses, private courses, and higher end public courses.....doesn't matter. It all boils down to the golfer. There are those that repair divots, pitch marks, and rake bunkers and there are those that just don't for whatever reason. Be the first kind!
