  1. Play a round. I believe it’s harder to get to play than to get to watch.
  2. Went to try out the latest irons that fit my "eye" per say at the Golf Town in the area I was in this week. The New Ping Blueprints looked awesome online so I was excited to see and try them out. I was also, very curious about the new Mizunos 245's. So, once I got into the Store and checked out these irons I couldn't wait to try them both out. I headed to the stalls and started to hit. Once I got warmed up I got the fitter to reset the numbers I was ready to go. Have to say that I was very pleased to say that they both felt amazing. The Ping Blueprint S Irons felt a little better than the Mizuno's but it was not very much. They didn't have the shafts that I wanted to use for the session but there wouldnt have been much of a difference as far as I could tell. After the session was over and I looked at the numbers I was very surprised. While I truly do believe that I am biased about Mizuno's I thought that the Ping Blueprint's had a slight edge for looks and feel. That said numbers don't lie, and the Ping's were almost 9yds short of the Mizuno's. While I got a slightly better spin rate the angles were almost identical. Another factor I struggled with was the direction. The Ping irons flew high with a bit of a fade while the Mizuno's were my solid ball flight of a fairly high draw. In the end of the session I felt a bit frustrated and maybe a little disappointed. Once the snow is gone here and the Ranges and Courses open I will be hitting these both again and possibly the Titleist 150's. Has any one has any input on either or all of these clubs please share your experiences.
  3. I believe that is true. I have heard 3-5yrs and 5+yrs up to 7yrs. Beyond 7 and the difference becomes more ans more noticeable. Also, what I read in an earlier comment, some people enjoy traditional golf equipment and I think while I don’t it’s great to keep these things alive in the game.
  4. I like what you have written here. I know as I age that I am losing a little distance. I agree with the 4i 4H comparison. I am thinking that a proper long game fitting is in order. Hopefully help me figure things out. Shafts/lofts/flexs…. After watching a friend go from 195 to 210 with a fitting with his 3wood it evened out his gaps again. He chose the Cobra LTDx. Whatever works right.
  5. I have noticed as of the last two Seasons that my woods and possibly my Driver are no longer meeting my expectations. Now I have played less golf and practiced a whole lot less, but I am really not happy with the trajectory and yardages of my 3 and 5 woods. So, with my 4i not performing as well as it used to, I bought a 4 Hybrid. It’s only been one session, but WoW!!!! I was happy with the 180yds I used to get with the 4i. I hit a few with the 4H that was around 185yds. The best one of the night went 191yds and was dead straight. The longest went just over 195yds. I guess what I am asking is…. Has technology passed me by my woods I mean…. Nike Covert Tour 3wood and Titleist 913 5wood.
  6. I can see how different clubs and setups really make a difference. I was fitted for my irons but based my woods setup on clubs that I tried and liked. Right now I have just added 4 new clubs to my set. Fitting was again done for the wedges, but now the hybrid. After last nights session with the hybrid I am left wondering. Technology has passed me by for sure. So, I think getting a complete fitting (all clubs) is essential.
  7. Got mine and have to say that I am very impressed. They feel fantastic and I love the way the ball comes off the face. Yardages are great and I am hoping to get some more numbers to see what the spin is like and to see just how well they are flying.
  8. I can see how that could happen. I started to figure out how the camera/ machine worked and adapted. I am just really trying to figure out if all Golf Sims are the same? I do understand the fact that launch monitors are much more accurate.
  9. Did move the ball around a lot. Talked to one of the staff there this evening when I picked up my prize package. He said that the camera has trouble picking up his 56* SW at times. Guessing that launch monitors would be much more accurate.
  10. I did have one complaint about the golf sim… it would rarely pick up my 58* wedge on a full swing or on lofted shots! Is this something that’s common?
  11. Recently played in an indoor Golf League. Had some real fun once I figured out the simulators. It was very well organized and the prizes were fantastic. The point I am trying to make is, are all the simulators the same or similar? Also, what does everyone think of Golf Simulators?
  12. Whenever I can tee it up I do. Adjusting heights as I con down through the clubs.
  13. The best putter I have ever had…. Odyssey Stroke Labs Double Wide. Was fitted a few years ago. Totally confident in my lines now.
  14. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing since 1990. At the time when I played 3/4 times a week and practiced daily I got down to about a 7/8 handicap. Right now I would say that I am about a 12/13. I could literally score anywhere now from a 77-90. What do you love about golf? I love almost everything about the game. Especially meeting new people. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I am here for the reviews and stay for the comments. Where are you from? What is your home course? I am from St. John’s, NL Canada. I don’t really have a home course. It was for a time Admirals Green and then The Woods/Glendenning. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best thing about golf here is the diversity even within the city. What do you do for a living? I work for the Department of Justice. How’d you pick your user name? Picked it from an old nickname that I had. Used to be a good ball striker! as for WITB; Driver: Callaway Mavrik SZ 3Wood: Nike Covert Tour 5Wood: Titleist 913 Irons: 4-P.W. Mizuno MP-64’s Wedges: Mizuno S23 50/54/58 Putter: Odyssey Stroke Labs Double Wide Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
  15. I have been playing for about 34 years and have yet to score an Ace!!! Eagles/Birdies/Pars and BOGEYS galore!!! Been on the lip of about 4 par 3’s!!! Once I hit the actual flag and then flag stick only to end up 15 feet away… LoL
  16. We watched Ted Lasso!!! Highly recommended!!!!
  17. 1. I have purchased a new driver based completely on your ranking of the best drivers that year for my swing speed. Callaway Mavrik SZ. 2. I now think of golf equipment with a little skepticism. The reviews are very important to me and paint a better picture for me and what I intend to purchase. In a sense it has also expanded my views as a consumer with gold gear I may never have bought. 3. Right now I have to say yes in regards of my Driver and possibly with the purchase of golf balls. Stay tuned there are some more changes in my golf gear on the horizon. 4. My enjoyment has increased with better ball flight accuracy and a little distance gain. As for the balls, they have equaled what I was using for a lower price point which has made me a happier golfer.
  18. I joined for the reviews. Stayed for ppls comments.
  19. I would like to be considered for the position of Tester. There are no limits to what things I would test. I have experience in golf retail and like to follow all the trends in golf. Experience with footwear as well.
  20. I have to be honest. I am an over thinker. Tell me nothing put the club in my hands and let me hit away. Give me the numbers/results every 10/15 balls. Don’t even tell me the brand/model. Feed me the data and top three when the session is over. I will tell the fitter from the start what I would like and what I am using, but that’s it. Just give me the best options for me.
  21. I admit to having a bias with irons. I am a big fan of Forged and an equal fan of Mizuno. As for wedges I am a fan forged the same as irons but I do not exclusively like Mizuno wedges. Therefore I have a Callaway wedge. I would expect that some of you think that it’s more to do with something other than feel. It is feel, 100% feel. During my last fitting the only club that came close was Titleist CB Forged. The fact that I gained a few extra yards with the Mizunos closed the deal. With woods I really believe that the shaft makes more of a difference than the head. All things being equal, the right shaft in similar set ups with different heads usually works out for me. Then it’s simple math and looks. Putters are more about how square and accurate I am. Sure the Cameron’s feel great, but so do many others. It’s a try before you buy like the rest of the equipment. So, bring on more Demo Days!!!
  22. I would have to agree that performance above all else determines the time for change. Just think how long it takes to get used to the set. I generally take about 500 range balls per club to know where my yardage range and trajectory will likely end up. No accounting for mid-hits!!! The best example I can give would be the set I bought in 2000. Titleist 990’s 2-P.W. These were incredible and custom for for length, loft, lie angle, shaft and grips. Worked marvelous for years. Then around 2011 I noticed a change in the wedges and short irons. A year later I couldn’t get the same trajectory with my 2iron. Time for a change, then it was on to my current set MP-64’s that I have gamed since 2013. So, in closing I would say if it ain’t broke….
  23. I for one was trained many years ago by Ping Golf. Static fitting was the start point for all fittings. Did my most recent fitting for my Irons without static fitting, trusting the fitter. Even went standard length due to the fact that I fall in around 1/4 over standard. I am only ready getting consistent divots with mid to long irons. About 5 years after getting the irons. Also, went with a shaft I wasn’t happy with as I was told I am getting older and stiff or firm wasn’t the right option. So while I am happy with the feel it’s been a big learning curve to adjust …. Now I am in the market again.
