I was a first time tester earlier this year, but I have been an MGS member since 2017. It’s just that I’ve been much more active in the forums for the last 16-18 months than I was during my first 4 or 5 years here.

I honestly joined this site for the opportunity to test the Titleist T series, but with low expectations of being selected, lol. I do think it is a great way to draw in new members and traffic to give exposure the community here. As i look around though i see my interesting features and looking to be a part of once i get through this busy part of my life. I look foward to seeing the outcomes and reviews of this test and future tests. And hopefully one day i could be one to amd provide the feedback someone else might need before they make a purchase of their own.

I know first hand how hard the staff at MGS @GolfSpy_APH @GolfSpy BOS work to make the tests run smoothly from the Nippon N.S. Pro 850GH neo test. I really appreciate how transparent the staff is, promptly posting who was picked and giving detailed instructions of how to get chosen. Great job- your efforts are really appreciated!

I would like to add, as a first time tester this year, (and I believe this is in the "How to become a tester thread". it's linked here for those who haven't read through it yet because I followed this and it worked) start small.. It is really ambitious to come in as a new member/tester, lurker or active, and expect to be picked for what might be the 2nd largest test of the year behind the Cobra challenge.. if you haven't tested yet throw your hat in the ring for a ball or glove test or something of that size and PROVE YOURSELF. As many have said this is not a prize or a giveaway. These tests take months and a lot of work to put together and MGS's brand is on the line with the public who reads them and the OEM's who supply the test, in order to continue securing these amazing opportunities for forum members. Of course they will pick people they know can provide a quality review because that is ultimately the end goal.
I can honestly say the mods have been very transparent in the selection process and the stats when it pertains to first time testers this year (myself being one of them). These stats seems to come up in almost every testing sign up thread and they're only getting better.
On a better note, huge shout out to MGS and the mod team for continuing to secure these huge opportunities for us everyday golfers to use, review, and give real world insight into the best equipment in the game. Also a massive GOOD LUCK to the 4 lucky testers that will be chosen here soon for this one. A lot of eyes will be on this.. no pressure... 😉

Exactly, I’ve never tested anything here. But ive done it for other things. It takes a lot and someone is always gonna be upset. Never fails!

Depending on budget and type, the answer could be anything. However, check out the testing threads for the Caley and Takomo irons that are ongoing and just completed. The members participating in those tests have/had a great wealth of info to share and generally good things to say about those irons. The best part is a decent set of irons can be had for a reasonable price. Also, everyone seems to love the Srixon ZX5’s if you’re looking for something you can try before you buy. Good luck in your search, and as always, if you find something, share pics and details, because we like that sort of thing.

This is insane! Can’t believe I’m just finding out about this now. In big time need of upgrading from my Mavriks. 20s handicap. Just started playing last year. Anyone have any recs on what I should get next if I’m not selected to test?

I'd find it INCREDIBLY careless for anyone to comment and or think that there isn't full transparency on these testing opportunities.  You guys have made everything abundantly clear to so many through each and every post, but most importantly from the initial request post.  But that said, yes I think that is a absolutely pivotal comment to make.  It should make everyone feel a bit more at ease with the process whether they are picked or not.
No questions on my part!  I'm happy with how everything runs currently.  Keep doing what you do guys!  It's appreciated.

I think it's always an interesting perspective some take on this "testing" component of our MSG group.  When I read them, I often times try not to look at it as sour grapes etc... But the "perception" is often times what causes the problem, and I'd offer probably is why many do make posts questioning the results and or the process.
I've been a member for a while now, and I have not been lucky enough to crack the code of getting into one of the testing opportunities, yet.  Maybe some day I will, maybe I wont... However, it still wont stop me from posting and applying for the opportunities where I truly believe I would have something to offer the group.
Does that suck not to get picked? Sure.  BUT, I also am well aware that we have a robust community of members and EVERYONE wants to be a "winner" in that lottery with a LOT of people applying to test.  This often times is the exact reason that causes remarks or posts to come of wrong or questioning of how this process exactly works.  Unfortunate, but I think it's the human nature aspect of things that comes into play and causes the reactions we see on some posts.  I also think that some of the reaction is a result of seeing folks whom have been picked more than once to do a testing of products.  That's where that whole "Not fair..."  or folks saying "People are unfairly being given priority..."  Again, it's rather unfortunate, but you're definitely not going to please all of the people all of the time as the old adage goes.
There's no easy or way around it in these testing opportunities.  Some folks will get more opportunities than others and or will be selected and others whom were not will not be pleased.  It's like the guy, or women for that matter, that hits the lottery or let's say a Club Book at your local VFW, Moose or Legion for money.   Everyone cries foul cause "they just won!", but that more of then not it truly is just jealousy and or sour grapes.
Reality is this... We all would be considered very lucky and love the opportunity.  Doesn't mean we ALL are going to get that chance.  MSG as a business, like so many others, and only has so many folks they can bestow the opportunity too.  So we all need to just understand that and accept that it may not be our chance, as disappointing as that may come off for some.
Thanks for all you guys do.  It's appreciated.
