  1. Of course, and the 4 i. The 2,3 had been replaced by hybrids to compensate for the modern golf course length. Can't refuse when your playing partners wish to play from the tips. I usually carry half the bag, 7-8 clubs if playing from the regular men's tee. If you golf enough, the work-ability of the mid to long long irons are irreplaceable by hybrids or the modern "forgiving" models. Although the modern 5 iron is lofted the same as the 4 irons not that long ago. Like my instructor said to me 4 decades ago, if you can't hit a 2 iron, then, you have not been playing/practicing it enough. I understand this is not a popular resolution these days when everyone seems to want success instantly and perfection ( on paper) is often misused.
  2. Swing weight is the essential base to measure an illusive element in golf swing. The "feel". Which can not be standardized and could not be taught in a lesson. IMHO, the total weight of the golf club comes before the feel for it. The "feel" involves many other additional elements besides the balancing pint.
  3. How much weight did you need to add to the driver head to achieve D5-6? and the length of the driver ?
  4. Getting fixated on the numbers is to reverse the journey of finding the perfect set of golf clubs for you. We are exposed to the knowledge and available tools to tinker with our golf equipment as never before. In many ways, it is great but in some circumstances, it cause losing focus on the end of the journey. We are not trying to reverse engineering for a magical set of golf clubs which can forego all other elements in the pursue of perfection. The end of golf club tinkering is to find the best possible tools for any individual golfer. Not making a perfect set of golf clubs on numbers. The golfer, is the majority of the formula. I'd bet no two sets of golf clubs are the same spec in the bags of the touring professionals. I had read that the irons in Ben Hogan's bag had different swing weights in the set. Lower swing weight numbers in the long irons and higher swing weight numbers in the short sticks. It is what the man felt "right" for his preference to produce the trajectory flight shapes he wanted. Keep in mind that we don't use the tools to unitize the spec of golf clubs like those sets made for retail.
  5. It depends on the quality of the fitting. I would pay a real fitting with a quality putter up to $299 including all tax and fees.
  6. Try a fitted hybrid for the distance gap. It will be easier to swing than the longer 7 wood. More consistent and covers the same distance if you have the right shaft in it.
  7. One sleeve of new golf balls plus maybe 6-8 experienced golf balls. I know a guy who kept all the found golf balls in his bag and he walk the golf course. Judging from the bulking pockets, he must be carrying more than 3 dozen at any one time.

  9. Try WD-40 first before trying other acid based or abrasive agent.
  10. It might be a shaft over hosel design, heat up the end of the saft just above the crown. Make sure you cover the top with wet towel/tissue or cooling gel. It will come loose. Bend the shaft, never the hosel, the short stub of osel will snap.
  11. No method to repair these dents. I would keep using it if it works until the day it quits. Can't claim warranty on damage caused by misuse. I would be surprised if the OEM will replace it or even give partial credit towards a new purchase. Would the auto dealer replace a new car you purchased and ran up a curb just outside the dealership under warranty?
  12. Measure the shaft O.D. There might have been a small discrepancy in the shaft size. A digital caliper is a useful tool in the shop.

  14. $300 + your time and the cost of fuel. I would take that fun trip myself.
  15. A lot of work. either you have to love that particular putter much or someone has to pay enough for the trouble. I'll just slap some lead tape on the head and call it good.
  16. First, make sure the grip I.D. fits the shaft's O.D. The shaft has taper, the more we trim off the butt end the thinner the shaft's O.D. You can try using another layer of masking tape or two, they are thinner than the two sided tape. Or change the tape to another kind with textured surface. Masking tapes has smooth surface which could be roughed up with sand paper to give more friction. And if you use a two parts grip (typically harder material on top and softer material in the lower half of the grip) It will be easier to twist with use. It will probably also twist with double sided tape. Push the grip all the way down make sure the end cap is seated. squeezed the grip in it's entire length to vent out possible small pockets of air so the grip is firmly attached to the shaft. Beyond that, use another type of grip. The best type of grip for air install is the traditional wrap or tour velvet.
  17. It is why we use a nosel with pressure trigger which able to moderate the pressure. Also using a sleeve over the grip to install and remove grips. Always be careful when the grip could not expand uniformly. The ones with a rubber underlisting, or a two parts construction will need extra attention since the parts will expand differently. Use a little solvent if needed to help lubricate the parts when sliding on with air. Very helpful when fitting a smaller grip on. There ar different types of painter's tape the original blue tape works well when the grip I.D. fits snuggly to the shaft's O.D. Of course, if the butt of the shaft is trimmed off the O.D. will get progressively smaller from the taper. No bbig deal to figure it out, hands on. It is not sending a rocket to the moon and back.
  18. Imressive for private project. Refine the method to attach the parts and it could fly commercially. Other consideration is to move the weight around on the design ot to provide a way to move the weight. The only short pont I could see is too many moving parts for longevity.
  19. If it were I. I'd get that guy a lunch or refer him some business in the near future. Understand that he sort-of volunteered to spend the time with you but, you get to experience a lot of the heads and shafts combinations without paying for his time. You would not have been able to do all that without his presence. Typically, they will not allow anyone to try out so many different combinations knowing that no fees were paid and no interest in buying anything. An hour and a half should march you through the whole bag at a normal pace after the initial discussion.
  20. Foam golf balls? Use an old bed sheet. Draw multiple bullseyes on the sheet for target.
  21. Most of the guys in our group will remove the OEM head covers from driver, fairway woods, hybrids and putter and replace them with generic head covers. A popular theme on the head cover will be the local sports teams. This is frequently practiced after someone's driver/putter was stolen at the bag drop area, one incident was right in front of the club house. The club house has installed video cameras but it's better than paying the deductibles on insurance to replace the stolen golf clubs. A golf bag containing a few thousand dollars' worth of golf clubs will attract opportunity thievery.
  22. The drawback from using a magnetized closure for head cover is ripping the material after frequent usage. Velcro could be replaced but the ripped material could not be easily repaired. Save your Scotty head cover and use aftermarket head cover featuring magnetized closure. Not just for saving the head cover from wear and tear, but the Scotty head cover is an advertisement for unwanted attention. Thief on and around the golf courses are on the rise.
