Middler
One of the leagues I play in uses modified Stableford scoring, and we have a good database. Eight of us have been playing another area course every Friday, and the group uses new Stableford targets every week using relative yardage to reset (e.g. Regular Stableford target x regular course yardage / away course yardage). But there's still some mild bickering here and there. Is there a fairer way? I've compared using course ratings and slope, and the latter seems to correlate better - but yardage seems to correlate reasonably too. A couple guys are probably overthinking this, but is there a better way? I could make the argument we should just use our home course Stableford targets regardless in that we'd all be at relatively equal advantage/disadvantage on easier/harder courses...but the group seems intent on "fair" targets. RickyBobby_PR
Why not just use course handicap. Every group I have played modified stableford with uses course hdcp to determine the number of strokes needed by each player. With the new handicap system is works great for situations with people playing different tees in the same group Middler 1 Quote Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1

Stableford is very popular where I am, a first for me, like no where else I’ve lived... Stableford is very popular where I am, a first for me, like no where else I’ve lived... Stableford is a simple way to do things for betting. The group I play some of rounds with that I’ve been playing with since I started golf used to do random draw pairings after the round. They’ve been using stableford for the last 5 or 6 years and it’s a lot simpler and for the most part it’s pretty even competition weekly. the not having a handicap thing makes it hard and it’s almost a guessing game as to what cap to use for them. yardage can play differently from course to course. One of the courses I’ve played this year from 6000 is harder than a couple courses I play at 6500-6700. It might be better to find a formula that uses slope/rating than yardage. Another option would be to take the scores of the ones who don’t keep a handicap and calculate one for them before hand and then use the course handicap. sounds like whatever you do there is going to be some sort of disagreement amongst the group.
