"Hitch in the motion of picking up the putter starting backswing?"

"I was aware that after grounding the Mezz behind the ball, there was a hitch in the motion of picking up the putter before I started my stroke."

I picked this up in another thread, and I've wanted to ask for a long time.

I ground my putter at address, hovering doesn't feel right. But I have noticed when I start my backswing and the putter comes off the ground, the head visibly drops inside path (toward me)? I've always thought 'that can't be good,' but I seem to putt well enough, better than my peers at least. What causes it? Reason to correct?

Putter is supposed to come inside on backswing.   If you are saying that when you lift it off the ground it immediately falls inside then you may have a potential setup issue (arms too far away), fit issue (putter is too heavy), not holding the putter firmly enough; lots of possibilities.    No reason to correct if you don’t want to; you sound happy with your putting.

That's what I meant, it immediately dips toward me subtly but visibly. I stand very upright, like a heavier head putter, grip as relaxed as possible - but I am happy with my putting. It doesn't seem to influence my the rest of my path backward or forward, just looks wrong to me.

I do the exact same thing and I’ve always wondered why. I noticed it for the first time last year and couldn’t get it out of my head and developed the yips. It got so bad I experimented with putting right handed instead of left. This spring I was able to get back to normal and I still drop inside but I’m back to square at impact so I’ve accepted it and won’t be trying to change again

Me winning isn’t, you do
