MNMGA2023
I'm 43 years old and have noticed that in the last year or so, I have a really hard time following the flight of a white golf ball in the air...and then more trouble finding it in the rough. I switched to Srixon Z star in hi vis yellow and it makes a world of difference. I don't see many players making the switch from traditonal white to a hi vis ball... and I'm wondering why? Is it not wanting to break from tradition? Would a yellow ball mess with people's heads at set up? Are there not enough hi vis options? Does a yellow cover perform differently than a white ball...pro v comes in yellow, but I almost NEVER see people playing them. Something else? Parshooter36
I've played yellow balls for the past 20 years. I'm like you, I lose white balls in the air most of the time. I'm really liking the yellow Oncore Elixr balls I have been playing recently. They probably have the brightest yellow I have ever seen. PBH3
I'm 43 and the past few years I have switched to a yellow ball for the fall and winter because I couldn't see the white ball. Now I am sticking with a yellow ball all year round and it is so much easier to see. Siamese Moose
I have the beginnings of cataracts, and anything white gets fuzzed out. White balls, white flags, and at a distance even white carts. On the other hand, I have no trouble (yet) seeing color, so it's yellow for me (at least until my eyes get to the point that insurance will cover surgery). The first or second MGS ball test did include a white and yellow version of the same ball (a Srixon, I believe). IIRC, they weren't identical, but close enough that I wouldn't have seen a difference. I game Vice Neon Green (Pro model) balls and they were highly visible with my cataracts. I could generally follow the ball for 150+ yds. but the distance visible did depend on whether there was a cloud cover. BTW, I just had both of my eyes done and it was way simpler then I had imagined ( I had visions of complex /extensive eye surgery). The actual surgery took only about 10-15 min and that included the anesthesia prep. To say it was life changing is an understatement. It's the first time in 40 years I haven't worn glasses. Kenny B
My vision is still pretty good at 76 years old. I did wear glasses for distance 30 years ago, but my eye doc the last couple of visits said I don't need glasses to drive. I have no trouble seeing white balls from late spring to early fall, which is nice because I've switched to Maxfli Tour balls. However, when the weather turns cold, I can see Yellow much better. I used to switch to Yellow Titleist Soft for winter, but I saw in the MGS Ball Lab testing of the Maxfli Tour S that Yellow is now offered although I haven't seen them yet. The Tour S in Yellow will be my ball of choice this fall during cloudy days. Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.” Link to comment
MNMGA2023
On a side note, I tried the gold ball that Vice came out with a couple of years ago...Not recommended, especially this year with our dry conditions...that gold ball is the EXACT color of dead grass. I think I lost 6 balls in 6 holes before switching. They do look cool though. Quote www.mgatour.com Chapter leader of the Twin Cities MGA Link to comment
Gusset
Similar to OP, I wanted something I could track better in the air, both in clear skies and overcast. Red is a color whose visibility seems to vary with different individuals, but for me it showed up the air really well...a nice black dot that I could follow as far as one could hit it on most shots. Unfortunately I found it sometimes a bit harder to pick up on a green fairway or in the rough. I settled on OnCore's matte green (Vero X1). I see it easier in the air than white, yellow, or orange, and also a bit easier on the ground as well. On a slightly different track, I like looking down at a matte ball. Not entirely sure why...maybe there actually is something to the marketing claims about that. Might try Vice's lime green someday. MNMGA2023 1 Quote Victor Bruhn SW Washington State Link to comment
