azstu324
Recently I had come across a post about redoing a gloss finish into matte. I had posted in the club ho page but @cnosilwas kind enough to point me in the right direction to this DIY section. I'm afraid this might soon become my favorite part of MGS as I'm a true DIY nerd and there are a ton of cool ideas in here. As I had mentioned in the other forum, I had somehow managed to swing my Cobra Radspeed hybrid into the chain on my garage door.. oof. Total McFly moment . Needless to say it did a number on the crown of my club. I've loved the Radspeed hybrid so it was a hard pill to swallow when it happened. Well I managed to put my OCD aside for a little while and continue to play the club with the wounded top. Recently I fell deep down the rabbit hole of DIY gloss to matte paint refinishing and found some really cool stuff out there. Here are some instructions that I've "borrowed" from another site that seemed to work beautifully I followed it up with a couple of coats of this stuff And here are my results I'm pretty stoked about the outcome. The pic on the left is from the Internet. I wish I would have taken a pic before when it had the chain marks. It was pretty gnarly looking. In my eyes this is a whole new club. So really all you're doing is just removing the glossy clear coat on top and creating just enough of an abrasive surface for the new matte clear coat. I did however get a little overzealous around where the "C" used to be and ended up taking a little too much off. I just decided to remove the whole thing which I don't mind at all. So I learned my lesson and went a little lighter around where the paint is on the back side and everything was fine. cnosil 1 Quote PXG 0311 Gen 5 9°/ Fujikura MotoreX F1 6X F6 3 Wood 14* / Kuro Kage Silver 65X F8 6 wood 20* / Fujikura MotoreX F3 6S RADSpeed Hybrid 24* TS1 4-GW / FCM Precision 6.5 Rifle TSW Wedge - 56/12 EAS 1.0 / Grip master 2.0 MAXFLI Tour CG
Bailz19
Looks great. I was given an R15 driver and didn’t like the white so I also went with the matte black. One lesson I learned however was that I did not get a nice clean edge as I think peeled the tape too early. Lesson learned but still happy with the outcome.
