pruden6
Someone asks what your score is for the round you just finished, do you tell them your score with or without your handicap factored into it? Quote Respectfully, Dave Pruden, Area Manager, Dispatch DUR9 Temecula, CA MSgt, USMC (Ret) Link to comment

Vollundganz.Golf
As an aspiring scratch golfer i never even think about factoring in my hcp. Your score is how many strokes you've made. Adjusted score is just your excuse in front of your partner or opponent in competition. Any thoughts? Dweed 1 Quote Consistent Low-Amateur 11 Hcp Link to comment
GolfSpy_APH
If I know them I will tell them. I don't see where handicap comes into play. Mine fluctuates and my score can be very course dependent. Especially considering I have been playing a lot of new courses recently. Dweed and JAYER38 2 Quote as of Nov 6, 2023 (Past WITB) Driver: Paradym TD w/ GD ADDI 6X Driver Shootout! Murrrrrrrr
Always raw score. There are ways to mentioning the handicap without mentioning the handicap. If the course was hard you go into about how narrow the fairways were, how difficult the green complex was, how you got some tough breaks, etc. If it wasn't so challenging you talk about how the type of grass suited you, how your range sessions really came through, how you were putting lights out, etc. Many ways of mentioning handicap without mentioning handicap. I almost always editorialize first, then give my raw score: "I played pretty well for me, I shot 78" That's kind of giving an idea of my net score, without actually saying it. 5 hours ago, Vollundganz.Golf said: As an aspiring scratch golfer i never even think about factoring in my hcp. I hope you didn't intend this to sound as elitist as it seems to me. "I shot 97" "You suck!" "That's the best round of my life, 66 net!!" For those of us who don't have realistic aspirations to get to scratch (95% or more of all golfers), some indication of ability is an important part of the discussion of any round of golf. It could be net score, or simply some vague editorial comment about how good or bad the guy played. The raw number is pretty meaningless without that. Which brings up the question, do you include the difficulty of the course you played when you relate the score? A 76 on Bethpage Black might be a fine score, a 76 on Podunk Greens might suck. Isn't that information similar to telling someone your net score? Most golfers know you have a handicap and if they'd like to know what you "actually" shot they might follow up with 'Oh great, and what's your hcp?' no offense. that's what the handicap system is for Dweed 1 Quote Consistent Low-Amateur 11 Hcp Link to comment
