TDGeorge
I just played with a friend who bought a new Callaway Smoke driver in the last 30 days. During warm-up, the crown simply split open (huge crack) from toe to heel. The head is ruined-not repairable. His swing speed is only around 100, so not outrageous stress on a driver head. Has anyone else experienced this cracking> The TXBexar, TJ Hall and Josh Parker 2 1 Quote Sub-70, Callaway, Mizuno, and Yes! Trying to shoot my age occasionlly. GolfSpy_APH
Not that I have seen or heard of before, but I'm sure it's under warranty to be replaced. Things happen and there can of course be defects etc. Traditionally I have had a lot of good fortune with Callaway drivers going back to the XR16. Has anyone else experienced this cracking> Here's my experience so far with the same driver and having what appears to be a quality defect in it's construction between the head and the face: It's Definitely one of those things where with the latest tech & design elements that's pushing the limits of how we can perform with a mass produced driver, the QA/QC of the drivers can only go out the window. It's probably something we're going to start seeing more & more of as the OEMs try and squeeze every ounce of juice out of these drivers before we hit the physical limit of diminishing returns on actual performance improvements, unfortunately. Hopefully your friend can take it back to the shop they bought it from and get it replaced pretty quickly.
