  1. What usually happens for me is I will flirt with the disaster multiple times before it finally happens. I'll get help from a tree when I think I put one OB, or come up just short of water when I go offline I'll see the double or triple bogey coming but I'll escape it. Then later I get too comfortable taking risks and lose focus for a second to find I'm writing an 8 on the card.
  2. I like the idea presented here, and laughed hysterically at your typo. Followed by thoughts of Mr. Mackey from South Park joining the forum and starting a thread titled "How'd You Mm'kay Today?"
  3. Closest place to me is in Exton, PA almost 2 hour drive. Mmm, nah.
  4. Driving range hit about 50 balls, half with wedges working on a full swing carry to about 125-95-65 with my 45-52-56° and extra work with 52° closed face chipping and 56° open face flopping. The results were quite exaggerated in being mixed. A couple of those "holy...that nearly went sideways" and about 80% nice job. Ah-kya. Hit 1 22° hybrid that troubled me. It traveled the path that a miss with my driver might, but it felt perfect. I think this is how I'm supposed to be hitting this club but the previous 175 strikes were off the toe slightly or open face a touch. This one wasn't any of the mistakes I usually make and zoomed 200+ yards. I think of this as my 180y club that I use between 150-190 depending on factors but if I ever execute this shot on the course rather than the driving range...cold shudder, chills down the spine, etc. That is OB about half the time.
  5. 18th tee box of a frustrating round of bogey golf. Long walk from the 17th green to the 18th white tees playing forward, I imagine you could see the steam coming out of my ears like smoke signals. Hole is playing about 270y. I grab my TS2 and swing harder than I've ever swung I think. The thing takes off like a rocket. "Drive of the day" says Dad. "#$%^&*@×÷%#" I reply. Didn't get much of a bounce as it turns out I wound up about 25y from the front.
  6. I got to the course about an hour early yesterday and had the chance to hit into a net before my round. I think I unlocked some distance with my irons. I have a tendency to leave the clubface open at impact, and to work on that I've been consciously trying to close the face a touch at address. Now I think I found that slight adjustment I was making great contact. The problem being when I brought that swing on the course I grabbed my PW from 112y and hit it about 130y into the wind. On another hole I had 132y to the pin and hit a 9i 150y to the back fringe. Now I have to learn to take some heat off these shots while still maintaining the proper tension and swing path. It's easy to get lazy when trying to swing a touch slower.
  7. Date 07/05/2023 Course Name Bey Lea GC Gross Score 89 Course Handicap 11 Gross Strokes over/under par 18 Net Score to Par 7 Net Score 78 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 245 Strange round. Felt like I hit the ball perfectly for the first 6 holes, 5 FWs hit and a 7i to 15' on the par 3, but I was +5 at that point. Hit 3 approach shots in that span, a 9i a PW and a 3w, that felt perfect off the face and flew 20y over the hole. Started missing FWs at that point, 3 in a row all leading to bogey or double. Some really amateur wedge efforts on the back 9 turned pars into bogeys. I finished strong, +2 on the final 4 holes. 5 doubles, 5 pars and 8 bogeys all told. 9/14 FWs hit, 4/18 gir.
  8. @chisag "I think most Scottish food is based on a dare."
  9. 1. You're allowed to bring your own putter. 2. Same with ball, though I've been to places that require use of their ball because a ball collection area is incorporated into the final hole. 3. Condition varies as much as on real golf courses. I've played on dirt patches claiming to be 68.9/123 rated courses. I played this week at a mini golf that had 36 holes immaculately kept. They hosted the US Open of competitive putt putt, which is actually a thing I learned. 4. Uphill holes require a solid smack and planning on bouncing around a bit, but that's only half the story. I watched my Dad bend one in from 35' away the other day. That ball was touched. 5. Same as resting against an obstruction on a golf course, you get a certain distance relief. And for going OB there are rules stated, most commonly the place where you go off course you place it back there with a penalty. Actually more organized than most "real golf" I witness. Lots of hitting from OB, lots of lateral drops.
  10. Morning, Spies. I'm getting ready for a 1pm tee time. Hope I'm not too rusty after taking a few days off. Will be the first on-course action for my 699u 17° Hope everyone has a great day
  11. I hit about 70 balls at the range, mostly 6i up to the new 699u 17°. Lots of good strikes shaping the ball how I want left to right and relatively straight. Found the forgiving part of the 17° more times than not. Surprised by how easily I could manipulate the height. I knew I'd be able to hit low runners, but today I surprised myself hitting some full swings that were ~90' high that went what felt like a mile with a range ball. Also hit some scuffed balls from the shag bag and hit some with real nice carry comparable to where my driver goes if I have side spin, but far straighter.
  12. That's just the front 9, the back 9 is inside the white windowless van in the parking lot that has "free candy" painted on the side.
  13. After some deliberation, I want to challenge @sirchunksalot #TeamChunks needs some motivation. Dad and I got our round in this morning. I had too many 4s and even a 5 on the card to shoot low. Dad did very well I thought, beating me by 6. He got the day's only hole in 1 on this shot he was lining up in the background above. I just had a feeling to get a picture for some reason. I had 2 hole in 1s lip out both led to scores of 4. Tough luck today. Hit the under on riding my putter like an imaginary horse, 0. I didn't make one worth elaborate celebration. At least I lost in style. $5 Tuesdays. Awesome promo and good on them to honor it on July 4th. I recommend Bluegrass mini golf for anyone who finds themselves in Central NJ. It's behind Monmouth Park Racetrack on Port Au Peck Ave. There's a Soundstage by the horse track and you can hear the concerts from across the parking lot. $10 regular adult price for mini golf and a free concert sounds like fun I'll probably go back.
  14. https://www.bluegrassminigolf.com/about The place I'm targeting has a horse track theme. Over/under on me riding my putter around like an imaginary horse after making one +/- 1.5
  15. Chocolate thumb print is a form of a signature. "Make your mark, young man"
  16. I think how it went is he didn't expect to putt well with someone else's specs but he did and he's superstitious so he'll stick with it until it fails him.
  17. I find this insightful about my own game, I incorporate both elements/viewpoints being discussed here. My 6i-PW specifically those clubs I think of in terms of the number being carry on a stock shot. The 5i and 4h also have these numbers designated the same way, but I use them only half the time in terms of that stock shot. The PW similarly gets used a variety of ways and only about half the time is swung fully. So with the wedges, 45° set wedge and 52-56 I also have the framework in my head of a range of distances these go depending on factors. With 5i (which is marketed as a utility iron) 4h, 3w and even my driver I have a similar range in mind once again taking all factors into account. For me it makes sense as that middle distance 100-180y is where I feel I can control relative to the task at hand, namely get it to the middle of the green or reasonably close to the flag. Inside 100y that task becomes to get it very close or even in the hole. The 3 wedges having 3 unique profiles and 3 different bounce numbers matters more to me than the yardage gap on a stock shot. From 180y + the goal shifts to being on the green anywhere I'll take it. Having 3 options to get there is more about flight path than each of the 3 clubs going a specific distance.
  18. Yeah, it seems a waste to gpaint my putter red/white/blue on July 4th Weekend and not bring it to a putt putt on 4th of July. Now I just need to get Dad to come along with his Odyssey OG white hot 7s I'll caddy for us with his pencil bag.
  19. That Flo model Sik felt so unwieldy to me. I would probably hurt myself with the sharp edge. It looks more like a garden tool or a weapon.
  20. Rickie would have to give me 54 strokes at the mini golf, the way he's putting lately. Or get me one of those Versa jailbirds from the tour truck. That would even things out, right?
  21. I'm excited to read the stories on these. Particularly anyone who gets torched by SWMBO or beaten by a toddler, etc. There should be a separate accreditation given to the most embarrassing loss, perhaps a "Shame" badge to wear for the following week.
  22. l think it depends significantly on the course and tees chosen. If I'm playing the same course as him and the only difference is I'm at the white tees he plays the black tees, that's going to be an obscene number of strokes I'm gonna ask for. But considering he isn't going to get many hole in ones and can't score negative on any holes if I'm playing a par 60 how many strokes am I conceivably expecting? Probably a stroke per hole plus 2 extra strokes on the par 4s so 30. ish?
  23. Beautiful clubs. I've been impressed by S70 all around. Each time they've built something has been on point and 2 weeks from order confirmation to being at my door. The times I've ordered from their pre-owned selection it was more like 2 days.
