  1. Not today, not for a long time... Monday 20 % Precip. / 0 in Windy with mostly cloudy skies. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 18F. Winds W at 25 to 40 mph. Overnight winds
  2. Questions: 1. Have you purchased any golf products based on MyGolfSpy reviews? (Please list which ones.) Fittings at 2nd Swing & Totally Driven in Minneapolis Nike Core Method putter SCOR wedges Also, still using Bobby Jones hybrid & Paderson driver shaft used in product reviews 2. How has MyGolfSpy changed the way you think about golf equipment? Getting properly FIT for the equipment!!! 3. Have these purchases lowered your scores? (List which products and how much they have lowered your scores.) Yes, although I wasn't able to play as much this past season and my handicap went the wrong direction (can't blame it on the equipment). 4. How have these purchases helped you enjoy the game more? How? Better fit = better results = more fun!
  3. I was still recovering from a "diagnostic procedure" from the week before, so I wasn't really in top form (at all) but I was both surprised and pleased with how well the fitting turned out. I had a putter fitting last year with Thomas Elsberry and was really impressed with his knowledge, so he was the fitter I scheduled for my iron fitting. As I've stated earlier, the Srixon Z545 irons prompted my desire for a fitting, but I told Thomas I'd follow his recommendations, no matter what brand he decided would be my best fit. Why try to "fit myself" when I'm paying for the services of a level 3 Master Fitter? The "Tour Van" fitting is like no other fitting I've had, the GEARS system they use is more sophisticated than anything I've seen before (http://gearsgolf.com/). BarbaJo did an earlier review with the details (http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/12417-a-tour-van-level-fitting-in-minneapolis-or-how-golfspy-barbajo-got-xtra-stiff), but ball flight and performance is ultimately all about physics and math and Thomas really, REALLY knows the math and the equipment better than anyone I've ever been fitted by before (and I consider them pretty good fitters). For an interview with Thomas, use this link (http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/12370-an-interview-with-a-master-club-fitter-video/?hl=%222nd+swing%22). When all was said and done, the Srixons didn't make the cut but surprisingly enough, when I went to Totally Driven for a wedge fitting thinking I'd come home with Edel wedges, I came home with Ping Glides. My new irons are Ping G series 5-PW. More upright and shorter shafts than what I was playing with before. http://www.ping.com/clubs/ironsdetail.aspx?id=20215 Maybe, I'm a Ping Guy and just never knew it. Since I wasn't feeling all that well when I got fit, I was concerned that the Pings might not really perform any better (or as well) as the irons I've been gaming, but was really anxious for them to arrive so I could get to the range and try them side by side. The irons were delivered earlier this week and I've had two trips to the range and 9 holes with them, so far. There's honestly no comparison with my previous irons in both feel and performance. Higher ball flight with better carry distance than my previous set and now that I'm getting used to them, much more confidence when I setup. At this stage, I honestly don't think I'll make anymore equipment changes without making a trip to 2nd Swing and having a fitting with Thomas. As I've said before, I thought I was striking the ball fairly well this season, considering I've had so many gaps between being able to play this year, but now that I've hit my previous irons side by side with the fitted Pings, the difference is like night and day. The only downside to the the fitting is, now I want to get fit for the rest of my bag
  4. Z545 irons are the ones I hit at the show, but I'm open to trying the Z355's, as well. I'm willing to try anything the fitter recommends, but the Z545's are what's motivating me to setup the fitting.
  5. I've been striking my irons pretty well overall, but still can't get the Srixons I hit at the PGA show the past two years out of my mind. Setup the 2nd Swing Tour Van iron fitting for next Tuesday morning!
  6. Not playing nearly as much this season as I'd hoped, but played a scramble tournament last Friday and we managed to take 1st place on the second flight!
  7. Since you're in Canada, it sounds like he's defrauding people on an international scale. If this happened to me in the US, I'd contact my State Attorney General and the US States Attorney offices and provide them with all the information you have on this. If he's still advertising in Golf Digest, I'd contact them as well.
  8. Finally getting a chance to play some rounds, but really a roller-coaster on the scores. 102-87-108-87... I think my body is upset with me for making it wake up! Weird, that my long woods & irons are the strongest part of my game but, of course that's about all I can really practice on in the winter. It's the short game that's running hot & cold (mostly cold). Example: drove to within 70 yards on a short par 4, 6 more strokes to get it in the hole
  9. FINALLY played my first round this season at my home course! The only other round I've played since Orlando in January was a practice round with my instructor last month. It seems like all Spring, when the weather's been good I've been busy, when the weather's crappy I have time... Played an 87, which is pretty close to my handicap, so I'm actually feeling better about my prospects for playing some decent golf this summer - lol If the weather gives me a break, I've got tee-times for 5 of the next 6 days!!!
  10. At least my tax filing is already done - lol
  11. I saw it at the PGA show and took a few swings on the carpet. It felt good to me, but it's not at the top of my "need list." I'm not buying any new clubs until I setup an iron fitting at 2nd Swing to either get the Srixon Z545's out of my head, or into my bag!
  12. Frustrated that my season hasn't really started, between hand surgery and weather, I haven't hit outdoors since Orlando in January. I'll be traveling the next 3 weeks, so I'm hoping I can at least get in a few buckets while I'm on the road. Heck, even my fantasy team tailspinned down the chart after the first 3 weeks & now BarbaJo is kicking my rear! Worst...Spring...EVER - lol
  13. I got a 5 pack as a prize here at MGS and I'm still playing the first one I took out of the bag. Since I've got an indoor practice setup I already had A LOT of tees on hand, but I always use the Martini tee for my driver.
  14. My $0.02 Tried them at the PGA Merchandise Show and, while I see their appeal, the putter just didn't "look right" when I was lining up to putt and my accuracy suffered for it. MAYBE, I could adjust to it, but the putters I already own are more instinctive to me.
  15. Of all the really cool, new, latest & greatest stuff at the PGA Merchandise Show, this is what came home with me. http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/15232-p2-putter-grips-what-i-brought-home-from-the-pga-show/
  16. Courses are closed, no golf in South Dakota today...
  17. I ended the season with an 11.2 revision, but really didn't get to play much the last few weeks this year. I'll have to work hard over the winter to stay in shape, if I'm going to start next year anywhere close to that!
  18. Just got home from the range after trying the 10 finger grip for the first time and it DOES seem to improve contact, particularly at the beginning of my range session. Possibly, it's a more natural grip for me. Hope to get to the range again tomorrow.
  19. It looks like the next few days will be nice enough to at least get some range time in, I'll have to try this. Due to the tendonitis flaring up in my hands this season, I've already made a lot of changes to my swing, but I'm pretty comfortable with my swing now. I use an interlocked grip, since that was how I was taught and I've never given any thought to changing it, but it won't hurt to experiment with a "10 finger" grip on the range. Maybe it will be easier on my hands, as well. If it shows promise on actual turf, I can work on it over the winter on a mat.
  20. Rub it in, rub it in - lol At least I've got a winter break in Orlando setup in January to look forward to
  21. I've probably played my last round for 2015. Weather is getting pretty chilly, the front nine at my home course is dug up for repair and I'm pretty busy and out of town for most of the next 2 weeks... That said, I've gotten in a little range time this past week and despite (or because of) the tendonitis developing in my hands this summer, I'm ending the season with a better swing than I started with. My hands are MUCH lower at address and my grip less tight, which gives me a more sweeping swing, and now that I'm getting used to it I'm longer, higher and more consistent than I was at the beginning of the season. I was playing at a 14 handicap at the beginning of the season at my home course and bogey + away, but what surprised me the past month is, after having to lay off for awhile, my ballstriking is better now than it's ever been. (Now if I can just keep that feel over the winter...) I replaced my indoor hitting mat with a Real Feel mat, which is much easier on my hands, so I'm optimistic I'll be able to continue to practice productively over the winter. I just need to avoid "marathon" ball hitting sessions and focus on my weight shift and tempo. I've had to stop "aiming my putts" by running my index finger down the back of my putter grip but I'm finally getting used to it, so that's probably what I'll practice the most over the off season. It looks like my next rounds will be played in Orlando during the PGA Merchandising Show when I get my mid-winter break.
  22. I'm just jealous of those of you still playing Came down with a really nasty cold after my trip that I'm still trying to get over, but our high temps are already dropping down into the 50s this week, so I'm not sure how much longer I'll have opportunities for play. Hoping I can swing a couple of travel opportunities for winter golf this year!
  23. Yeah, but you earned that right to cart!
  24. VERY little winter golf up here, even if the weather permits it. We've got about 3 courses that will open between 11/15 until (maybe) 3/15. I play them when they open, but it's almost more for bragging rights than anything else, at that point.
