  1. After getting fitted last summer for an Edel, I've become a bit of a fanboy. So keep that in mind. What I would say is this: if you don't know much about how you use your putter or what kind of putter likely works best for you, and you're interested in playing your best golf, absolutely go get fitted. My fitting was, in many ways, a confirmation of things I already suspected. I aim right. I cut across the ball. The putter I brought with me to my fitting (a 34" torque-balanced Odyssey Big Seven Toe Up) was in many ways very similar to the putter I current have in my bag (a 34" torque-balanced Edel EAS 4.0). I got to the Odyssey through about 8 years of trial and error self-fitting. Should a new golfer get fitted for an Edel? My take would be this: if you have a reasonable putting stroke at all, yes. You will end up with a putter that will work well with your body. And it will allow you to go from there and work on getting better at putting, rather than tinkering.
  2. It shouldn't matter, but it does. I had a season with the Odyssey EXO Indianapolis, and despite liking the putter, the plastic sound at impact was really off-putting. It's one of the things I've really appreciated about my Edel: in my judgment, it's the most "neutral" sound at address I've experienced. It's not clickly, not mushy. I just don't notice it, which means it's doing something right.
  3. Impact from the first video I sent to Jayson Nickol and from today. Might have just figured something out: stay tuned for updates.
  4. For my part, I most often have the coverage on when I'm in my office, and I'm also most often doing something else, so the commentary is either very low (so I can notice if something exciting happens) or muted altogether.
  5. My favorite part so far: an abundance of little stats on screen. As a guy prepares to hit, they're often showing his rank in this or that statistical category relevant to the shot he's about to hit. It's a little thing, but for me it adds to the broadcast.
  6. BMart, I haven't, and it would be interesting. That said (and I'm absolutely open to correction here), I don't think these screen shots show what is typically called early extension. Extension here would involve a loss of the setup posture, typically meaning that a person stands up with their hips moving toward the ball. If you look at my swing, I normally begin moving my entire body toward the ball while retaining most of my setup posture. To be sure, there may be a physical limitation that would lead to that, so that your point remains.
  7. These don't look like spiders. They look like beetles.
  8. Still waiting to hear from @Lakegolfer, but open to other ideas as well.
  9. It actually does suggest what to do if you're on the side that thinks the ball goes too far: pave the rough. Preferably with moguls. Make it so that if you miss the fairway, you literally have no idea where your ball might end up. I'm not saying it's a good idea. But I am saying that it would put a premium on hitting the fairway.
  10. Recycling something I posted on Twitter: I'm thinking the DP Tour should just release videos of nothing but Tyrrell Hatton trying to do almost impossible things. Land a shot in a golf ball sleeve. Do sudoku puzzles with the minimum clues. Whatever. It's just enjoyable to watch him lose his mind. Other things I'd watch Tyrrell do: Use cheap plastic wrap without it getting stuck to itself Plug in USB cables the first try That tee game at Cracker Barrell Follow groups that don't repair ball marks Try to set the world record for club speed—for a thrown club
  11. Getting back to working on the things I'm supposed to be working on. Took a few swings this morning focusing almost exclusively on my wrist angles. Aiming to get the lead wrist flat to slightly bowed, to get the club set at the top for a more rotation-based swing. Quibbles: I'd love to see my rear end/hips not come off the back line through impact. (Related: to keep my head from going out toward the ball.) This here is monumentally better than it has been in the past, but if I could keep my body back, I'd have more space for my hands to come through. Strike was poor here, out on the toe. I'm using the Pro version of the Tour Striker 7 iron training club. If you've seen this before, you know that it absolutely punishes poor strikes. But I'm trying to work on taking a swing in which I can do the proper move without a ball and transition to doing it with a ball, and that means rebuilding good strike patterns.
  12. Love this option, as I play the 699 Pros right now. Shoot me a DM with pics and your offer.
  13. I'm looking for something very compact; I play an XR Pro at 20°, and so whatever I put in this slot of my bag, I would want to be even smaller. Anybody have anything laying around that they're no longer using?
  14. I've been, um, busy. But now it's the dead of winter, so it's time for me to start posting in the Forum again! This will be a quick one. I've still been working with Jayson Nickol on Skillest. I've enjoyed it; he is also pretty nerdy and technical about golf, so that's a good fit. I'm hoping to get in a good garage session tomorrow (temps are getting to a balmy 26°, so I want to take advantage of that). Christmas break was rough for my golf routine. We had a week+ of travel and managed to snag a case of COVID on the way (it was very mild and I was over it in a couple of days, for which I'm grateful). But now that I'm home again, I'm trying to get back to a routine in which I roll several dozen putts and make a few dozen swings (much often, with either PlaneMate, the DivotBoard, other training aids, or a combo pack of them) every day to keep engraining new swing patterns. I got a bag of foam balls. Those are fun to hit inside. 20220117_142806_1_1.mp4 I like how I'm turning here (the camera position ain't ideal). Wrist angles are a little sloppier than they were a month+ ago; I'll be working to get that flatter feel back in the lead wrist.
  15. Marketing will change when human nature changes. And I have reasons to be skeptical that we'll see that happen.
  16. Gonna step in here with a couple of comments. First, we've never had a "no criticisizing MGS in the Forum" policy, and we're not about to start that. If we have to police this thread, it won't be because we don't allow criticism. But obviously, this is a thread that might spark some sharp comments. Let's keep the tone civil here; better to type then edit then post rather than type then post then edit (or get moderated).
  17. I am way behind in posting on the Forums lately, and that includes my own thread about working on my game. But the short version of the my season in review would be a graphic of someone treading water. Started the season with ~11 handicap and finished in the same place. But there were two big highlights of note: I eagled a hole. I believe I'd only had one career eagle before this, and it was a round that I had to cut short before it finished. So I think this is my first official eagle that counts. I had a round this year in which, on the back nine, I shot a 1-under 35. Absolutely came out of nowhere; I had shot a 13-over 48 on the front nine. I hit zero GIR on the front, 5/9 on the back, and had only 13 putts on the back. Made one bogey and two birdies. Was the most exhilarating, boring nine holes of my life. Definitely showed that good scores are within my reach. I've got some reasons for optimism going into next year. I've rededicated myself to regular daily practice this offseason. I'm not hitting balls everyday, but virtually every day I'm working on my swing and my putting. I've finally paired up with an online instructor (Jayson Nickol); the chief virtue there hasn't been so much a barrage of knowledge that I didn't have, but a focus and accountability.
  18. Whoa. I hadn't noticed that. When I contacted support about mine, they gave me a return shipping label, no questions asked.
  19. Got my turkey in the brine last night. For the last several years, my starting point has been Alton Brown's turkey recipe: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe-1950271 I basically follow all his instructions on the brine and the fruit/onion stuffing, but I've done our last several turkeys in our electric smoker. A couple months back, I added a pellet grill to the arsenal, so this year's turkey is going to be slow smoked on that. Are food preparations underway for you all as well? What are you making?

  21. I definitely advocate getting a launch monitor and dialing in those distances that way. Drill different distances, and then try to hit random numbers between those distances. I'm also in favor of a clock wedge system; I currently use my LW, SW, and GW for this, and each club has five different distances. I've built a chart that I keep taped to the back of the phone I use for Arccos for on-course reference.
  22. A bit more time on the charger seems to have (finally) revived it again. But the battery issue makes this really tough to recommend. Even if the additional features don't work, the device has to cover the basic task (getting the yardage) well. The unpredictable battery makes that dicey. All else being equal, I would definitely recommend the NX9 (which I loved) over the R1 right now.
  23. At present, my R1 is no longer functioning. It had some charge remaining yesterday. I plugged it in in my car on the way to the course today and it indicated that it was charging. But when I took it out on the first hole, nothing. I now have it plugged in in my office, and although it's been on the charger for about an hour (with the white indicator light pulsing), if I take it off the charger, it still shows nothing (and my phone can't find it). I just sent a service ticket request to PP.
