There's an easy way to see if that speeds up play or slows it down... testing it.
You can have two rounds with it, two rounds without and see if there's any difference over a few tournaments and all groups.

If it doesn't slow down things significantly (do the actual statistical test... ) then allow it everywhere. It's making "tour golf" more relatable to the average players and might inspire a few of the guys who try to eyeball everything, then pace stuff (and who are definitely very very slow when you play with or behind them) to get a rangefinder themselves. Plus what's the point (outside of potential effects on the pace of play) of banning that? Maybe to make the caddies more "necessary" to the players so that we don't evolve to tour golf being more like "normal golf" : push carts, lasers, and the player only has himself or herself to blame for bad clubbing or miss-read shots?

Allow it! It will absolutely speed up play. No more walking off distances. What's the carry for that trap? Shoot it. Calculating zones on greens won't change,  but it will stop all the pacing off yardages.

I see nothing wrong with it.
I went to the LIV Adelaide and some of the Caddy's / Players used them.
I thought it actually made the game a bit quicker
Tho, just saying, all the Caddy's I saw had yardage books too

The point of golf is to hit the ball to a specific distance, obtaining that distance shouldn't be a challenge. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed.
Unless, PGA thinks it would actually speed up play and then they lose ad revenue.

I fully agree their thoughts of it slowing down play are complete garbage. It would absolutely speed up play, except for Cantlay of course. 😉

I haven't yet turned 50 (that's for next October), but I still carry a 5 iron... and a 4 iron, and hit them both relatively often. The 4 I often use off the tee for shorter par 4 to avoid the trouble of the green complex, to punch out of trouble, and for any approach that's 205 to 215 yards, the 5 iron I use for the obvious 200 yard approach and for playing knocked down shots into the wind. I must say I don't use the 5i as often as the 4i, but hey.
I used to have, when I returned to the game 7 years ago, a 4 hybrid after my 5i, but I do control flight and direction a bit better with my irons so I've converted said hybrid into a 3 (21° of loft) and by closing the loft, that opened the face limiting a bit it's natural tendency to curve viciously to the left. Still, I don't use that often because it's a 225 yards club with a high trajectory and at that distance I'm typically laying up while I would prefer to tee off with either the 4i or the 4 wood... Still, from time to time it comes in handy and as I already only have 13 clubs in the bag, it stays!

Franc38 got a reaction from bama no 1 in How many balls do you carry?
I typically try to get 3 new balls in my bag before a round... However, as I keep finding balls, I usually end up with north of 10 balls of various makes and states in addition to the 3 new (then 2 new and one old) that I really play with. The "found around" ones are used for provisionals or when I want to play a second or third version "to see and learn". After a while I usually unload them in some bags that end up laying down in some random corners of my garage...

I'm currently having the KBS tour x-stiff shafts in my irons, and I must admit they've won me over. I really like them, they feel stable but lively, the ball doesn't go too high, flight is very true... and in this age of super light everything, they have some nice weight to them!

Franc38 reacted to richk9holes in what is the proper pace of play when it's packed?
A slight pushback against people saying 4 hr. The topic specifies "when it is packed" I think 4 hr or anything less is a stretch of the imagination or perhaps I have a different perspective of "packed" living in one of the most densely populated areas of the US.
I notice any time I play with someone who is pushing my pace, or if I'm playing with my Dad and he falls behind the other 2 in our group, the guys I play with who get around fastest never fix a ball mark. Never replace a divot. Leave broken tees sticking out of the tee box. Putt in front of me out of turn while I'm lining mine up.
So playing with or in a group immediately behind those people, I will tend to fix more than just my ball mark on a green. Replace mine and their divots in the fairway. Pull their tees out of the tee box and throw them aside before I put mine in. Have to line up my putts multiple times because of a ball rolling or feet walking through my sight line.
There is a clear reason my average round might take 20 minutes more than theirs. They are jerks.

The numbers on the stickers on the clubs are obviously the heads weights in grams. Not very useful for the buyer to know but really helpful for the guy doing the assembly to get all sticks in the set to be at about the same swingweight. So typically the heads are weighted and labelled after production to help assembly of the finished clubs (you don't have much variability in grip weight and the shafts are more or less what they are... ).

Great unboxing video @frazzman80!   A quick thought on the numbers - could they be the individual weight of the heads?  Also the 7i coming in w/out the cellophane seems weird and I was going to explain maybe they, Haywood, was doing a final recheck of the loft/lie and it had maybe come off in the process…and lo and behold as I continued to read the thread they answered your question.  Speaks highly of the Mfg@haywoodgolf!

I was a member of a country club for a while when I lived in Western New York.  The club held a membership drive to help finance some clubhouse renovations.   The next year the average round time went from 4 hours to 4 hours 15 minutes.  For the board (mostly single digit handicappers), that was unacceptable!  That winter they required all members and their spouses to attend a three-hour workshop before they were allowed to play golf in the spring.  The workshop focused on speed of play items such as stay up with the group in front of you, where to park your cart so you can efficiently move to the next tee, etc.  It also included things like how to properly enter a trap, where to leave the rakes, how to fix a ball mark and other golf fundamentals.   Turns out many of the new (and old) members had no idea!  That spring, round times were back at 4 hours or faster and the course was in much better shape!

Slow play is annoying but I also expect it these days which is sad. My #1 pet peeve is ball marks on the green. It’s just disrespectful to everyone else to not even try to repair them. I was taught when I first began playing to fix yours and at least one more. #2 is definitely bunkers with low sand or poorly maintained sand and are now hard and firm. I imagine they are expensive to maintain but if you are going to have them, then keep them in good condition.
