  1. This question goes out to my fellow full time Arizona spies. How many of you live there full time and does the summer heat put a crimp in your golf schedule? My wife and I are considering a home in Sun City Grand, for sure to spend winter season but possibly full time at some point. Our biggest concern is whether we could survive summer months. Lots of folks say "just get out and do things before 10:00 am. That sounds like a major traffic jam . I suppose the upside is that, for those who can stand the heat, the courses are nearly empty the rest of the day. Anyway, love to hear from from our desert dwellers.
  2. But there has been some talk about it not being difficult enough . I agree with you that they've done a good job on this one. Leaders shooting 2-3 under/round seems right - at least to me. It's also been fun watching more long iron play. Most of the season, it seems, these guys forget they're in the bag.
  3. It's funny, but for a brief period of time Pinnacle's, like Molitor, were the rage. I remember playing with my Dad and his foursome buddies in the 70's and they all played these balls.
  4. Well done . Too bad the flat stick wasn't behaving itself. It's hard to get all cylinders firing some most of the time .
  5. First round with the new irons complete. A 40/45 but that was largely due to a hot putter and solid driver. Wow, this is going to take a bit more adjustment than I had thought. Yardages are around one club up from my PE2's... I'd say more like 1.25 up on the longer irons. This is making things a bit challenging. After 32 years with one set of irons, I knew their distances really, really well. What I'm noticing most with the G410's is the larger span in distances produced. Flushed shots rocket off these irons. Oh yea, it's fun seeing them fly, but a wee bit nerve wracking if there is danger lurking behind the target . I'm sure hoping I can get these dialed in sooner than later. It's really weird staring into the bag and not feeling like I know which arrow to grab. To those of you who changed irons after having played a set for a long time, how long did it take you to establish yardages? Range session after playing 18: Club Min | Avg | Max Carry 4i 159 | 176 | 196 5i 145 | 167 | 184 6i 144 | 161 | 186 7i 133 | 152 | 167 8i 109 | 131 | 156 9i 113 | 124 | 148 PW 96 | 108 | 123 UW 77 | 93 | 103 SW 49 | 67 | 81
  6. Right now, the new Glide 2.0 56/12 and I aren't getting along. If I'm not gutting it, I'm skying it. Seriously, having now 3 wedges in the bag is making me flip out on the short game. Not having been a wedge player for over 30 years, I knew this might be an issue. Lots more range time needed to get the G410 W, UW, and the Glide dialed in .
  7. USGA (Not so) Live stream... YUCK . They sure could learn something about this from Augusta National.
  8. Those look like they'll hunt. I thought for sure you were going to grab that set of Z785's on the classifieds . Also, you seem to really like your Sub70 wedges - did you consider any of their irons?
  9. Which is kind of amazing considering his background. A former school teacher from WA with a passion for golf. Toted JT's clubs when he was an ametuer and met JS through JT. Now, his bank almost $5M larger than when he was earning $50k/yr, one of the best known PGA tour caddies.
  10. Indeed. It's clear he's growing really frustrated with his game. Listening to him during interviews suggests he's happy with progress and the climb out of this now long winded slump, but I think on the course the internalizing is starting to come out. No doubt Greller would get hired quickly. As we have seen with other tour dynamic duo break-ups, it not always based on data. Sometimes a change on the bag, just like a change in swing coach, can make a difference.
  11. Rosie 22 putts with 14 one putts...WOW!
  12. Thanks. I'm really impressed with this device overall and still learning a bit about its functions. Yesterday, the low battery indication came on and, after taking a brief break and turning it back on, showed near full charge...only to indicate low after about 15 minutes. I'll start with a fresh set and keep track of on time. I was just wondering what others are experiencing. I try to keep the device the recommended distance behind the ball and as in-line as possible. The range I usually go to has accurate flag distances and I'll be able double check readings.
  13. Jordan barking at Growler. "Two perfect shots Michael, two perfect shots". "One gets me in the water and the next over the green". But honestly, doesn't at least 51% of the club selection rest with the player? He had to know the club selection off the tee fell into the danger zone. Nearly everyone else in the field has stayed well back of the cliff. I keep expecting a change on his bag if this level of inconsistency continues. They don't seem as simpatico as the early days.
  14. #18 needs to be named "Snead's Beach". Did you see that wry smile after his second birdie from the beach .
  15. Pebble Beach is getting carved up like a thanksgiving turkey right now. I think the USGA was gunshy of recent criticism. Here's hoping for some inclement weather... but not looking likely.
  16. Victor Hoveland making sure the field knows his name. I've not watched him much, but he looks like a Koepka clone.
  17. The Rickster has it rolling! Sporting a baby Fleetwood hairdo. Lots of players still to tee off yet; kind of surprised so many late afternoon times. https://www.pga.com/events/usopen/leaderboard
  18. Thanks Rob. After getting past the emotional part (moment of silence ) it was full speed ahead. I need to get them dialed in time for the July rendezvous.
  19. I have a couple of questions for fellow SC200 users on the forum. First, what is your typical battery life? I use Duracell's. Does anyone use rechargeables? My second question concerns data on higher lofted irons and whether you have issues with more frequent missed data capture or think the carry yardage looks incorrect? Thanks
  20. Your prowess with that 5w and 7w did not go unnoticed . Yeah, my immediate thought is a G400 5w - hate to mix up the bag with some inferior product . I've never played a x-over or hybrid so I will need to test hit some of each and see what works best.
  21. As of yesterday, from this: To this: to Check out the background story at
  22. At my typical green fee rates, that's roughly 500 rounds of golf ! I keep thinking the price of these will start dropping into the reasonable level, but apparently not.
  23. Yeah, I thought about the "I'm going to pay for this" aspect late into bucket #3, but I had taken an Advil before leaving home and I'm happy to report I feel like I could head to the range right now. As it stands now, I'll be selecting up one iron from my normal, but on a few of them that may be too much at full throttle. Nah, my new good buddy spy @PING Apologist #9 has that covered.
  24. The G410's. I headed right from the shop to the range and purchased two large buckets. Really gorgeous day in Bozeman, MT (all over the region really). The range at Cottonwood Hills GC I pulled the PE2's from the bag and started adding the 410's. I could swear I heard them say "it's been a great run for over 30 years partner - we'll be right here should you ever need us". I decided from the start of this journey that the PE2's would stay in my possession until the end of my golf career. They truly have been a great set of irons and provided some memorable shots. The new line-up. My objective today was to establish some new yardages. I entered all the new lofts into my SC200 and started the practice with the 7i. My first hit was off the toe so damn far it hit the metal fence guard. I laughed so hard at myself I nearly was in tears. OK, step back, take a deep breath, and hit the frigging ball. From there on I started making solid contact and found a nice rhythm. I switched to the 4i and started taking data for each club in order - hitting 12-15 balls on each club. These were my numbers. Club Carry Avg. Carry Max. 4i 178 192 5i 163 171 6i 156 163 7i 147 159 8i 129 142 9i 112 124 W 100 113 UW 84 89 SW 65 72 I'm not convinced the distances on the UW and the SW (Glide 2.0 56 deg) are real accurate. It seemed the SC 200 was missing several shots on each and I had to switch it off/on to get it reading again. Perhaps it's the really high ball height - dunno? I plan to do another range marathon and repeat this exercise to see how consistent the numbers are and double check the high lofted irons. That said, I'm pretty happy with the data and definitely gaining an iron length or more over the PE2's. I also found that mishits were less frequent and more forgiving. Besides that not so memorable "first hit", I only had a handful of stinkers and the vast majority were really straight or even had a slight draw on the 4i and 5i. I think the yardage gaps look pretty good but now feel I'm going to need something between my G400 3w and the 4i. I wish PING offered a 3i for this set, but I may be better off getting a 5w, crossover, or hybrid? (Suggestions welcomed) . Here's some additional pictures. I opted for the PING logo grips as they appear to be really similar as the Golf Pride Tour Velvet... plus they say . The AWT 2.0 shafts are a +1 inch and regular flex. They are 1/2" longer than the ZZ-Lite shafts on my PE2's and felt good. I really am not noticing a difference in swing feel and my strike patterns were mostly just toe side of center. Hit #1 with the 8i was flushed. I ended up buying two more large baskets to complete the data; and get some time with the G410 driver and G400 3w. A quick clean-up after the practice and the finish looks barely used. I really like the satin Hydro-Pearl finish and contrasting milled face. The G410's still have the stamped iron number on the face - which many don't like, but I do. I think these are going to work out well once I get as comfortable with yardage numbers as I am with the PE2's. I'll also be interested to see what difference there is (if any) in how they roll out and hold greens. So far so good.
