  1. Good put. I'm just now seeing that MPF scores the Z585 at 504 (conventional), the Z785 at 404 (conventional), and the Z785F at 350 (classic). For some reason, I thought these were a bit closer to the GI category. Sure are nice looking!
  2. When you say "weak for their builds" are you referring to weight lifting capability? I'm guessing the majority on tour would surprise us in that capability; even considering that isn't likely a specific end goal of their exercise routines. It's my impression that current era PGA Pros are, by and large, in better physical shape that their counterparts of yesteryear. Except perhaps that one popular picture of Arnie in his heyday - anyone want to arm wrestle after the match?
  3. Hmmm. The Z585's have been of interest in my iron quest to replace my PE2's; much of that having to do with the commercial and the MGS #1 Wanted Testing . The Z785's look to be more a GI than a SGI (Z585's)? I've not yet tested Srixon irons and would be taking a gamble on these. These do have the shafts I've been fitted for and the 2 deg upright really close to green dot specs.... hmmm. One question I have is why the split in model type and are the Z-Forged even more towards (in) players iron category?
  4. I haven't looked at OWGR of late...actually a bit surprised to see him at #1. If he can keep his drives on the short grass, he is always a factor on these long course venues.
  5. I had an opportunity to try these at Mesa Del Sol a couple months ago. I was filling in for my buddy, who was on a cruise and normally orchestrates our Saturday golf, and had arrived early with some time to spare. Paul (club pro) was busy but said to have at the Ping test cart and set-up my club. Having been fitted for irons the summer of 2018, it was a snap. Grabbed the Project X 5.5 LX +1/2", the green dot 7i and the wrench - really, they could not make this stuff any easier! I had already been hitting my PE2's on the range and had a good groove going with my 5-7i. I switched over to the i500 and just never could get a consistent ball strike going. Sure, I drilled a few and they felt really nice, but for whatever reason, I just could not get this club to dance. I switched back to my club and was still hitting well. What gives? Like @Kanoitostates, these irons are drop dead gorgeous - at least to my eye. Nuttin fancy, just plain and simple with a look that say's "ball striper". I tried them several times but still no love. I headed back to the kiosk feeling pretty disappointed. I like the look of these irons so much, I was really hoping we'd find romance. Maybe it was that shaft? I plan to ask my club fitter at my upcoming iron fitting part deux. He never suggested this club last spring... perhaps he's a really good iron fitter.
  6. I'm rooting for Speith... it's time for another grand slammer .
  7. Congratulations to Steve Stricker and his first PGA Major win!
  8. Bite your tongue. It's one of the few channels these days I find worth watching.
  9. Well dang. Round 4 suspended for weather. I was really looking forward to watching that today. Oh well, I'm retired, Monday works.
  10. From this past Fridays round, two come to mind. First a 30+ ft chip in for birdie on the #1 handicap hole, and second a pair of drives (balls 1 and 2), that went right into position A+ on hole #7 within a few yards of each other. You cannot see the landing area from the tee box.
  11. winner, winner, chicken dinner. I'd venture to say it's a 80/20 relationship...maybe even 90/10.
  12. Good pick. He has an impressive four years on tour resume - year one only involving two events.
  13. Is your fitting specifically for the G410? If so, ask to try all of the no upcharge shaft options they have available. I chose not to try them based on my fitter comments but wish I had just to remove any doubts. Have fun.
  14. Jeebus it is getting so painful watching Speith putt. Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse... yikes . And how about this Joey Garber guy channeling his best Tommy Fleetwood
  15. Same here. I haven't mastered the one I have.
  16. Do you recall that happening after a high hit toward the crown? Whenever I see a half pattern of dimples at the top, I fear a result like this . It's nice that so many of today's equipment mfg's offer such great warranty service.
  17. The major events switch to a traditional 4 round format; which is a significant shift for many of these guys. A really nice leader group with Stricker currently leading, but Toms, Andrade, and you'll never guess who nipping at his heels. Bernhard the machine ceases to amaze me. https://www.pgatour.com/champions/tournaments/regions-tradition/leaderboard.html My McCarron pick is going down in flames. He must have used up too much mojo in the last few weeks. I'd love to see Stricker win his first "major" event, what a great guy and ambassador to the game.
  18. Yesterday I managed to get my first round of 2019 in Montana at Madison Meadows (Ennis, MT). While still coughing quite a bit and feeling a bit tired, the weather was just too inviting not to give it a go. The course was near deserted allowing me to play a 2 ball game. Here were the results. The dots indicate drives in the fairway - or close enough on a few that the first cut presented no disadvantage. The front 9 was played with my driver in the same lie/loft and neutral position I'd been using while in Yuma. For the back 9, I switched the moveable weight to the draw position. The split box numbers were drive lengths for ball 1 and 2 on selected holes based on my Voice Buddy. I really did not notice that much difference between the "neutral" and "draw" positions. Most of my contact marks on the front 9 were mid/high towards the toe. The marks in draw position were pretty similar - certainly not a definite shift. I still plan to do another iron fitting soon and my fitter has offered to help with this review by capturing some ball flight data. I think this will be much more telling than what I can assess out on the course. Hole 6 is the #1 and #2 handicap depending on the tee box. I play this course from white, then blue tees. The hole, a Z-shape, is really a challenge unless you can carry the ball a healthy 230 yards to clear the draw (canyon) and OB (fly the hill just right of the small shack). Add to that, if you don't have a right to left ball flight and really drill it, you hit through the fairway and into a hazard. It's a love/hate hole design! Most players simply hit up the right side (fairway left of the house) with driver or 3w taking the long, precision drive out of the way. Hole #6 Blue Tee I normally opt for the right side but Driver X has given me some added confidence and we're in test mode.... so bombs away! On the front 9, both drives from white cleared the corner, and found the small saddle area on the fairway (mid point in photo). While happy with getting there, it was really not a great position for the second shot as it leaves one down in a swale and completely blind to the rest of the fairway. I managed a birdie on ball 2 with a lucky 30 ft chip in! For some of you big bombers, this would be a fun hole. For me, I'm playing up the right side from here on unless there is a healthy tailwind . Here's a few more pictures from the course. Hole #5's Blind Tee Shot (Blue tee is about 20 ft higher, behind and to the right) Looking back to Hole #6 tee (Madison Range in background) Hole #5 green The G410 continues to feel good to me and adding confidence to my drives. I only had one drive that faded to any appreciable extent. Most were pretty straight with just a whisker of right to left movement. I'll try and get another round in at Beaverhead GC next week and perhaps repeat the neutral vs. draw change and see if it shows us something. Thanks for following along!
  19. Curious what you mean by take a break from the Arccos? Does having that system tend to draw you into looking at each shots data as you play? It sure looks like a cool system and I'm considering having it added to a new iron set (whenever that happens ) but I could see it might become distracting - perhaps the paralysis by analysis syndrome?
  20. But swings can/do change over time so having some quick and easy adjustability would seem the advantage.
  21. LOL. Chamblee comments are akin to throwing gas on a fire to some players... look what it did for Tiger.
  22. Well, the odds are Romo won't make the cut, but he's playing pretty respectable. As it stands now, Luke Donald would be buying his beer. My prediction: Jordan Spieth (it has to happen at some point, right?) https://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html?cid=USAT_top5LB
