Belts and suspenders. FBM is fine for smaller greens, but larger or oddly shaped greens need additional information.
-
Depends on the golf course, generally put a new sleeve of either the Vice Pro Plus or the Wilson Staff - which means I will have about 12 balls. But some courses I only take used balls and add another six or so. Carry three in my pants pockets.

Only the Krank driver for high swing speeds is conforming. So if you played any of the other Krank drivers in a tournament you would be DQ'd. With a glacial swing speed I ruled out trying Krank drivers because of their own acknowledgement that their drivers were non-conforming.

Has anyone out there tried the Odin Golf Balls. I just ran a ballnamic using low to mid price and the Odin Ball showed up in the top 5. Vice Pro Plus rates highest for me with or without price consideration.

How long do you play a ball before retiring it?
flsw19 replied to aguybadatgolf's topic in General Equipment Talk
I will play a ball until I lose it; but after reading the different ball testing information, including the effects of slight ball damage; I will relegate scuffed balls to the practice bag. So I could replace a ball after one hole. -
Some additional - Snake Eyes, Wright & Ditson, Northwestern, Nicklaus, Palmer, Penfold, Ping Golf balls, Lovett,
-
Wood Brothers; Butler, Orlimar, Plop, Slazenger, Goldwyn, Powerbuilt, Louisville Golf, Yonex, Sonartec. Owned some of these but not all.

Cart Bag - would like to be able to use my Bag Boy stand bag - but it will not stay in place on my Hillbilly motorized cart - on the occasions when I walk. Not wanting to change out bags between rounds; I opt for my Sun Mountain Cart Bag.

What Are Your Hurdles/Excuses For Not Practicing?
flsw19 replied to GolfSpy_APH's topic in The 19th Hole
It's to cold (under 70) or raining or might rain, the wind is blowing at least 1 mile per hour, or just lazy. -
Best: Tour Edge Comp Irons - only hole in one with 4 iron 170 over water Sub70 699 Pro - only eagle hole out from 90 yards Louisville True Center Putter (Persimmon insert) Cypress Point Headcover - it was Cypress Point after all Orlimar 4 wood - I mean real wood Worst: - They no longer are allowed in my memory bank.
-
None - they are all on probation

Use the battery powered Hillbilly Scout, when I walk - still dependent on hills on course. Also some courses I walk in fall through spring become unwalkable in summer - way to hot. You can only get the sense of the subtle up/down hills from walking.
-
Until I loose it. Since the courses I play the most - have water that must be carried on at least 3 holes, I often happy to get by with 2 balls in a round. Some of the more difficult courses I play do not have water that is in play so I may be able to get through with one ball. Generally my drives are in play - just not long, so I don't worry about running out of fairway.

How many sets of clubs have you owned in your lifetime

2024 What is safe in your bag? What's on the chopping block?
flsw19 replied to GolfSpy_APH's topic in General Equipment Talk
Nothing - don't want them complacement -
A matte version of a ball in the test. I don't care which as long is it the same ball.

Has anyone tried the JDM Titleist Ball - VG3. Being sold at the local Roger Dunn for $2 a ball, on the USGA Conforming list. It appears to fit in the Titleist ball family below the premium balls. In bright light the white balls have a mother pearl appearance. Also in Matte Colors. Could not determine what kind of cover, but a 3-Piece ball.

I have a Black Vice Pro Plus; given to me because I have also played the Pro Plus Gold. Gold's are hard to find - I play the Gold on Par 3's I'm likely to reach. Makes for interesting conversations on the tee when playing with folks I have not played with before. Ping Ballnamic fit me into Pro Plus. like the red yellow shade and green balls otherwise.

6'2" 36" have tried different lengths but always migrate back to 36" was fitted by Club Champion that confirmed the 36" length. Current in bag is a Ping Sigma Arna - with adjustable shaft. Hard to find 36" putters to try in stores.

It depends on the format and tees. I tend to play better in 4-ball, something about not wanting to let a partner down. At my home course this year I have been playing a weekly game from a tee forward - which is more in keeping with my distance; however it took me most of the year to adjust to different play lines to avoid hazards that are not reachable from further back.

How do I convince my golf buddies it's time to change tee boxes?
flsw19 replied to Bulldog's topic in General Q&A
Yes, we old guys need to get over it. Recently a few courses in my area have recolored the tees; so what were the white tees, now are the blue tees - it seems to work on a lot of people. This is the opposite of 25 years ago when blue tees were recolored to white tees. Moving to forward tees does create a new set of problems, like bunkers and hazards that were not in play before coming into play. Shorter may not be easier until you learn the lines. -
While equipment bifurcation is somewhat a change; but rules of competition and local rules affecting highly skilled players already provided some level of bifurcation. As far as I have observed no local championships are testing equipment of going through bags to insure compliance with conforming lists. While the distance debate makes no sense in terms of most golfers; perhaps the regulating bodies should require longer fairways to reduce roll and cutting greens only every third day; and remove rakes from bunkers for highly skilled players.

I tried Ballnamic, reminded of the Golfball Selector, which did something similar. I thought I set price at mid-point so results are a little off; In order of ranking, Bridgestone Tour BX, Vice Pro-Plus (my current ball), Callaway Chrome Soft X; Bridgestone Tour XS, and Maxfli Tour X (my backup ball) I have tried all balls. Price points make Vise and Maxfli better choices. Vise also has the coolest colors. The cool colors enhance the smack talking on the tee.
