  1. COOL, Gives me another chance or 2... I really like this trip down old school ball lane... Chris
  2. While I would agree with most of y'all here in that Layout-playability, and condition are all important, for me the number one thing that makes a course a favorite is people. The lack of other players I mean. I am pretty much a solo player, I really enjoy being out there by myself. and I really enjoy a round with little to no other players on the course, for me that's just about the best it can be. The quite, the solace is really something. Timing is everything for me, sometimes I have to play early in the morning, sometimes later in the day. Day of the week also factors into it. If it's a course I haven't played before I talk to the pro shop to try to get a handle on the slow times and schedule as best as I can. As for my home course, I know when to go and be alone on the course and when to stay away. When I can't get to the course because of too many people, there's always the range. Chris
  3. Read their thread yesterday and thought I'd give it a go. Played 9 today. I'm not a long hitter. Best drive was 233. But had a blast. Used a Callaway Warbird. Shot a 39 at Gladwin Heights Golf Course. Slope is 110 and rating is 68.7. My handicap is pretty much an 8. Chris
  4. This arrived today. I've had different putting mats in the past, but after seeing ads pop up on Facebook over the past months I decided to check out the website. I was surprised to see that they made a Lefty version. After much thought, I pulled the trigger. This one is way better built that one's I've had in the past. The putting surface is much better quality than the others and even looks like grass ( looks like they used a picture of a putting surface for the mat) anyhow, looks great. The cool part is other than the mat is all solid wood! The ball return is attached with magnets, and has a back stop for those rouge shots. After a couple of putts I learned quickly that my basement floor is not level. Trying to putt down the line didn't work as the ball follows the floor, so a slight adjustment on my part and I was able to arc it into either hole. Something to address before winter sets in. There's some videos on YouTube and the company website, if you're thinking about a putting mat, I strongly recommend this one. Chris
  5. First off, congrats on how well y'all did. Second, I'm sure that you gave them something to think about as they didn't have an easy win against the seasoned golfers !!!! Chris
  6. You may be on to something there. The BeCu shafts are shorter, both are stiff shafts, but with them being made in different "centuries" (lol) I'm sure the measurement scale is not consistent. One thing this has taught me is buying new irons last year was a big mistake. I was playing i10 before these. Silly me I thought they would help my game. Lesson learned. As far as distance is concerned, it's all relative, the number on the bottom really doesn't matter, a 150 yard club is a 150 yard club regardless of the number on the bottom, that's my thinking anyhow. Chris
  7. I went out the other day with the Classic Beryllium Copper irons and was surprised at how much more "on target" they were over the 410's. That caused me to conduct an experiment. I set up at the 150 marker on one of the holes at my home course. Dropped 12 balls, 6 for the 410, 6 for the BeCu. My target was the pin in the middle of the green. Took out a 410 7 iron hit 3. 2 were left of the green, 1 went right of the green. BeCu 6 iron...all 3 on the green. 3 more with the 410 7 iron. 1 short, 2 went left of the green. 3 more BeCu, all 3 on the green. I'm sitting here trying to understand "WHY?" With all the tech in the 410's, why can't I hit where I'm aiming? Why are the BeCu's so much more accurate? Any thoughts? Chris
  8. Played 9 today and the results were about the same as you experienced. Ball flight was much flatter than the G410's and distance was off by 1 club. What really surprised me was, like you I felt like I was throwing darts at the green from 150 in. Everything went where I was aiming, the only issue was the flatter ball flight. Definitely worth further exploring. One thing that really impressed me was the PW. A little more work with this and it may replace the 4 wedges i currently carry. Here's a picture of what I'm using. Great thread, Chris
  9. Regripping is easier that you'd think. Make sure to get one of those rubber inserts for a vice to hold the club and a hook knife for removing the old grips, those will help tons. Grip solvent is also a must, easier to slip on the new grips than anything else. I started doing my own a couple of years back, I've re gripped my clubs more times than I can count. You got this!!! Chris
  10. After following your journey you have inspired me to try the set of Beryllium Copper irons I picked up last year. Been pitching balls in my yard (I have 3 acres) for the past few days with the PW and like you, bad hits are magnified, but when you hit a good one it's like throwing darts. I was amazed at the improved accuracy over my G410's. Playing 9 tomorrow with them!!! Thanks for the inspiration !!! Chris
  11. I gotta say I've tried the Arccos system, and GPS systems. Always returned to my trusty rangefinder. For me the tech stuff gave me way too much information. All I really need is the yardage, the other variables like elevation, wind, temp and such I can determine for myself. Plus the tech stuff was slowing me down on the course trying to digest what information it was giving me, provided it could connect with the satellite. And the tech stuff for me couldn't account for lie. So I went back to me range finder and been happy since. Chris
  12. So, I'm curious, I'm guessing that the 7 iron is about 38 degrees, pretty much a 9 iron today, how does the distance compare between the Wilson 7 and your current 9? So, reading back thru the posts I see you have posted the lofts. So this post is kinds pointless....at any rate, I'm looking forward to your results between the 8i and PW.. Chris
  13. That's awesome, Sometimes we get caught up in all the hype out there about equipment, and the need for "new" toys....other than a loss of yards due to loft, which I'll bet if you matched loft to your current irons they would be about the same distance wise. Your experiment sure has me thinking I need to get my Beryllium copper irons dusted off and give them a try... Chris
  14. Interesting experiment, I'll be interested in your results. Mostly how ball flight is affected between the 2 types of irons. Chris
  15. LOL, never thought about that, but imagine explaining that you carry 14 clubs and lost to a guy carrying only 1.... Chris
  16. It won't be Tiger, in fact none of the "big" names in my opinion. The only sure winner will be Augusta..... Chris
  17. Just hit 60 this year, hard for me to wrap my head around. I look in the mirror and can't figure how it is I see an "old" man but still feel like I did 20 years ago. Just doesn't add up in my mind. I keep moving as much as possible, pushing thru the pain, and my wife telling me to act my age. Walk the course as much as my legs will allow, sometimes too much, then I ride for a few days. I see guys in my age group that seem to just give up, sit on their keester and drink and watch TV. I'm not sure how or why they do it. Kinda scary to think I have more days behind me than in front..... Chris
  18. Twix (Left), Cheese crackers with peanut butter in them, Water. Chris
  19. If the weather doesn't allow me to get out on the course, I'm down in my wood shop making some real Purdy fire wood....plenty of saw dust too !!!! Chris
  20. I've had several different brands of clubs over the years, Ping's customer service is above anyone else. And the clubs fit my game better than others. Chris
  21. Have y'all seen this, A guy won a tournament using only a putter...that's it, only a putter... https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2020/05/10/watch-this-using-only-a-putter-man-wins-arizona-amateur-event/ Makes you think...... Chirs
  22. The sensors have been sold. Chris
  23. This ball was given to me today. I know Acushnet makes Titlest and Pinnacle balls, but I can't say as I remember their name on a ball. Chris
  24. Yes, they screw into the end of the grip. The sensors read the location of where you swing the club. They work in conjunction with the app on your phone. The Arccos website can explain it way better than I can. Chris
