I use full swing up to 58 but have been reading quite a bit about people using partial swings for 58 territory distances to get better trajectory and control. What’s your strategy? Depends on the course conditions and the ball I'm playing. It's tougher for me to control spin with high-loft wedges on a full swing and unless I need 12k revs, I'd rather hit a softer shot with a lower-lofted wedge. Typically I don't hit lob wedges with a full swing and rarely hit sand wedges full, but if I'm playing a 2-piece ball and/or the course is really firm, there's less chance of ripping it back too far. To more directly answer your question: Playing my standard ball (ZStar XV) at my home course (reasonably firm Bermuda greens), 50 is the last full-swing club. Anything inside of 100 gets a partial wedge, though I try not to leave myself inside 80 (strokes gained methodology notwithstanding) Quote Driver: ZX5 LS MkII 9.5* (@ 9.0*) with 46.5" Ventus Blue 6X 3-wood: SIM 15* with Diamana Limited 75S 5-wood: RADspeed 18.5* with Motore X F3 60S 2i: ZX with SteelFiber i95 Stiff 4hy: TS3 23* with Tensei AV Blue 70 S 4i-7i ZX7, 8i-PW Z-Forged, Modus3 Tour 120 S 50*, 55* RTX 6 Modus3 Tour 125 60* RTX Full Face ZipCore DG Spinner S400 Putter: Toulon Chicago with a Quad Tour or HB SOFT Milled 10.5S with UST All-in Ball: Chrome Tour (but I might still have some Left Dashes hanging around) Bag: Ltd Edition Tartan, blue/green/yellow Using to keep track of my shots Tested: D7 Forged 3i-PW, KBS Tour-V 110S - Official Review Blind Ball Test (Ball #3 vs Ball #4) - Unofficial Review V3 GPS Watch + Tags - Official Review Vero X2 - Official Review The Stack System - Official Review
chipyips
Looking for advice ideas. I currently play a TM P790 PW, TM P790 AW (*50), and Cleveland CBX2 54 & 58. I don't play a ton and my swing speed isn't super high, but feel I have a huge gap problem. My yardages are 105, 95, 70, and 64. A 25 yard gap seems like too much between my AW and 54. I don't want to drop my PW and AW, and need to keep my 58 for sandy options. Debating going to a 52 deg to try and close the gap to my AW which is 50 deg. Any suggestions? You could increase the loft on the 50 to 51 and see if that drops off 5 yards and then maybe deloft the 54 to 53. I'd think about making the 58 a 59 as well.
