SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 10, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 10, 2010 I thought that it would be nice to have a place to post the links to good, inexpensive courses in your area. Right now, you may be the only person posting from your city, but as the boards grow in membership, others may appreciate this data. I'll start. The Sacramento area is actually a great place to play on a budget. The majority of courses are around $40 to ride and sometimes under $30 to walk. A few can get dry during the hot summers, but most are nice nearly year round. Here are two close to me. As you move out of Sacramento, there are even more in the outlying areas: Haggin Oaks GC http://www.hagginoaks.com/ Two 18 hole courses, although one is mainly played as nine holes. Rates are average, but the course is well maintained and the pro shop is the largest on course shop west of the Mississippi (so I was told). Ancil Hoffman GC http://www.golfancilhoffman.com/ Feels like playing in a tree-lined zoo somedays. Some of the tight fairways can be a beatdown, but the layout and area are beautiful. $14 unlimited holes walking in the summer afternoons. Many more, of course, but these are the ones I play the most. Moecat
For residents, Callippe Preserve is a nice course with good value ... http://www.playcallippe.com Another good alternative in my neck of the woods is Las Positas ... http://www.laspositasgolfcourse.com
Matt Saternus
In my area, the residency discounts are based on what town you live in, so this is the cheapest for me: http://www.poplarcreekcc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=28 I like the fact that the rates slowly go down throughout the day. I might beg to differ there... It kind of depends on how you measure "Largest". Going by "what I was told" level of research here. Unofficially, they have a ton of stuff. Strong online store and eBay presence too. Very true. I have been there, and love the store. Morton's do a great job. NubianRugby
I played the Wetlands in Harford County, MD earlier this year and the price was right: $50 to tee off at 11am on a Friday. If you're anywhere in the DMV it might be worth the trip.
