Wedge Advice

I'll be hunting for my final JetBlack Vokey wedge over the next few weeks(or even months since winter is approaching I've got time to wait until the right used one pops up) but was looking for some advice on  what grind/loft I should get for it.

I've got a 54F and  a 58M and am deciding on whether to just get a 62M(since thats the only grind available at that loft) or to get something at 60* with a different grind to have an option for varying conditions. Usually, i'm fairly decent at opening/closing the face of my wedges to +/- loft, even on tight lies, so I dont really need the 62 to have a "perfect" gap between the wedges.

The two main courses i play usually have soft fairways except maybe for a couple weeks during the middle of summer but i also play a couple courses that have more firm fairways.

So if i decide to not go for the 62*,  should i go for a 60L to have something for the firmer conditions? ...or since I'm already fairly comfortable with the M on firmer lies should i go with something like a 60K to have a high bounce for softer courses?...

...I guess another option would be to get a 56F and add some loft to it. If they made a 58/60/62* F grind i would likely choose that since i really like the way the F grind plays from the fairway on full shots.

What did the vokey wedge selector recommend and why not follow their suggestion?

Your most lofted wedge is usually a specialty club for a few specific shots and minimal full swings. I would suggest you work backwards from what purpose in your bag does that club need to fill? That should help decide on grind and possibly loft.

Andrew Rice was on the Practical Golf podcast recently and his "general" wedge advice was never hit your most lofted wedge at more than 75% effort and 90% effort on your 2nd most lofted wedge. Then fill in around those yardages as needed.

Unless your 58 is in the 100+ yard range, I don't see much reason for a club with 62 deg of loft. If you want to go high bounce, it should be based on multiple fats and chunks on soft courses that is hurting your scores. If it hasn't ever happened, you probably don't need it.

Having had both 58º and 60º wedges, personally any shot with one can just as easily be done with the other, and I would have no need for a 62º.  Bounce and grind options can make a difference depending on your turf/sand conditions.  However, I have no trouble playing 12º bounce off tight fairway lies and I only slightly open the face on bunker shots.  For softer conditions the higher bounce is the most versatile.

I did that a few weeks ago and it said for me to get a 60*S and i considered it but it is nearly the same bounce as my 58M

That is another option I've been considering. Just sticking with my current 54/58 pair, dumping my 62 SM7 and then adding a 3w back into the bag as the 14th club. Ever since i dialed down the loft on my driver and hybrids i have definitely been noticing the "opened face" thing that happens when you do that. Leaving more shots a bit right of target than i typically have. So, i have been considering putting in a 3w(or maybe a strong 5w) to fill the gap between my hybrids and the driver and putting the hybrids back to their neutral setting.
