rbgntx
I bought new irons this year, Mizuno 923 Hot metal 6-LW. I carry driver, 17 and 21 degree fairways. The lofts on the new irons are a little stronger and since the 6 iron was the same loft at the 5 hybrid I dumped it. So I am down to 12 clubs in the bag. I have been trying to picture some sort of club to fill in a space in the bag. I was thinking of a trouble club of some kind a hybrid or another wedge maybe. Or it is possible I am just overthinking the notion that I have to have 14 clubs in the bag. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Christof and GolfSpy_APH 2 Quote Callaway Driver, 4 and 7 fairways. null
Biggest question to ask yourself is do you find yourself not being able to hit certain shots or yardages on the ciurse? If so, you should look at finding a club that can meet those needs. If there's nothing glaring, there is nothing wrong with playing with less than a full bag. richk9holes
I adjusted my 5H 25° to 26° and found I hit it much better to flight and land greens. My 6i is 26.5° but between the difference in club design and the transition from graphite to steel at that point, they actually gap well next to each other in spite of being essentially the same loft. My initial thought was even gapping based on loft numbers, but using trackman I settled on adjusting to accommodate the distance I'm hitting the clubs. The 5H may be the club, but I'd get one with hosel adjustment so you can try it at 3 or 4 different lofts. Merlin1313
Every once in a while I find myself thinking I need to get a 3W. As it stands right now, I can get to most greens in 2 with the set up I've got. If not, it's a fairly long par 5 and I'm probably gonna be hitting one of my wedges in. In the long run, that's probably the best way to get to those anyways. Plus, I haven't really found one that I like or feels right. I DID have a 14* that fit really nice. But someone needed it more than I did and I never really replaced it. GolfSpy_APH
Gapping sessions are a lot of fun and can certainly help give you an idea to where you may need to add and where in your bag! It's not necessary to fill in the space until you find it useful or actually need it. As for me, I put the clubs that can be used for two purposes rather than for carrying on one. Like I use the 5-wood for teeing off and over the rough. Moreover, you can also have only 8-9 clubs in the bag. Afterall this will help you carry it everywhere over the course even without the cart. On that same note, it stood out when Matt Fitz said on Full Swing his advice to amateur players is always practice with even/odd irons depending on even/odd dates. It makes sense to me to develop touch and get away from what I know I have and I see many others out there with: a violent approach to the game. I could carry 10 in that instance which I may start doing at the par 60. richk9holes
I had 13 in my set and was comfortable with it, so I'm taking the opportunity to test run a chipper and a 60° I already gave up on. Next will be a 13.5° 3w if I see one that intrigues me. Is my take on it.
