Hi, as long as the clubs spec out for your game, you will be able to spend less and get a similar result from 2024 models...love to save $$ on equipment personally!

CaptStang got a reaction from Beakbryce in What Wedges Are You Currently Using?
Vokey SM 9; 54/10, 58/10 both with KBS Tour Lite shafts and Golf Pride Midsize MCC 4 grips.
On or shortly after 2/15/24 I will order the new Vokey SM10 54 and 58...likely with 8 degree bounce in the 54 and 12 in the 58. Will stick with same shaft and grip  choice if available
My other wedges are: PXG Gen 4 GAP and PW with KBS Tour Lite shafts and midsize PXG grips. These are "set" wedges.

CaptStang got a reaction from Dweed in Golf lessons- Clinics or 1 on 1?
For what it is worth, if you are a newbie to golf, the clinics may give you an idea of how the golf swing works and what you need to do to be more involved. I like what one respondent said that clinics are supervised practice sessions-if you like what you see and are feeling like you want to get more involved-then take a few 1 on 1 sessions to see if the positivity holds true.
Remember this thought-in a group clinic, there will be a variety of skill sets and in a 1 0n 1-you are the skill set.
Best of luck and I hope you have a great future in this wonderful sport!

CaptStang got a reaction from Beakbryce in Set Wedge vs. Specialty Wedge
I use set wedges for PW and Gap, then Vokey for 54 and 58...with different bounce designations. I had gone through a Titliest Wedge and Putter fitting before so I also order the Vokey wedges with the same shaft as my irons...

I have used Vokey wedges for several years and found them to perform well with what I need them for.
Similarly I use Scotty Cameron putters for the same reasons...they just seem to work better for me.

Good luck on your choice and have a successful 2024!

CaptStang got a reaction from Dweed in How many irons do I carry?
I vary my irons from 4,5,6,7,8,9,PW,Gap, PLUS 54, 58 wedges-and usually delete the 4 iron in favor of a hybrid depending upon conditions...I live in MI and play during shoulder seasons can get cold, wet and windy and I just feel more comfortable with the hybrid replacing the 4 iron. Mid-summer-I drop the hybrid and bring along the 4 iron.

I just got fitted for a PXG Gen 6 Driver-definitely worth the $$...I replaced the Gen 5, and the fitting put me in a different shaft entirely !

I was skeptical of the benefits of a full fitting process but I was visiting my son in Dallas when the 1st PXG retail store opened and I went in for a full fitting AFTER having purchased a PXG driver etc...
In the fitting process, I was able to see the variables of the different heads and most importantly the results of shaft selections.
I ended up with a totally different setup for my clubs and paid up for an upcharged shaft for the driver-which has proven to be money well spent.
One of the responders mentioned that after getting a full fitting to save the specs for future use-I totally agree as I have purchased several additional PXG clubs using the specs and that has worked out well.
Having said all of that-my Nephew decided to get back into golf after a multi year layoff and leave behind 15 year old clubs. He asked me to go with him to an indy club fitting studio that uses Trackman tech...I can tell you after watching his fitting sessions there is a lot to be said for spending the time and money upfront of a purchase. He ended up with a totally different bag of clubs than he was anticipating. And the technology does not lie.
FYI-and not to bore the rest of the viewers, I have also gone thru a putter and wedge fitting process with Titliest and am very pleased with the results of that choice as well.
