i believe in the long run (3-4 yrs) this court thing will be best for all of golf , the pga will make some good changes which will be better for the players and liv will make some changes .
in the long run the pga will still get the cream of the best players and liv will get some of the others and go world wide with them .
the court action is good as this can not go on the way it is now , after east wood the liv will pick up 4 or 5 players and all be done ..

the talk is he will get $400 million , that's an eye popper , also putting it into perspective what he sees is a year ago he would have received 110 yen per dollar , now the exchange rate now is around 136 yen per dollar , a year ago the s's would have to given him $500 million to get the same amount of yen he will get today .

oh well , good for him if the deal goes through ..

i think after the tour championship at east lake we will see 3-4 big names going to liv , a couple earlier if they don't make the  70 cut  for the  fedex  ,  matsuyama after  east lake   , he will stipulate that liv play 1 time a year in japan , i think the 3 round thing was a mickelson idea because when they get to 72 players the avg age will be around 35  - 40 ..

I don't see an F1-type team concept working at all in golf. There isn't enough tying the players of a team together to make it compelling.
The PGA's biggest mistake was the wrap-around season. They should have had an offseason with 3 or 4 big events around the world from October to December. Sort of what they are planning to do now. But none of that really makes a difference. Players are going to LIV for the ludicrous money, plain and simple.

watching c. smith play since he came on the tour , he looks to have the complete game ( could hit the driver a little straighter ) i think he could become the next rory m.
if   smith  120 mil - masuyama 150 mil -  fowler 80 mil and 5-6 other big names --50 mil each go liv it would be a big blow to the pga , so far the pga has not taken a big hit ( dj was close  as was brooks  k. ) ( phil was a fan favorite ) , the rest no big deal
i will add a player i like to watch is hovland , he is a great asset to the pga , always smiling , never beats his clubs into the grown , you can tell he is very happy where he is at and loves what he is doing .
    just my thoughts .

This is what a competent commissioner looks like. Jay could have avoided the large majority of this LIV drama by just taking a phone call from Andy and PGL guys. They wanted to actually work with the tour and it would've been infinitely more interesting than the fractured PGA/ LIV drama that we now have. I seriously think Monahan should lose his job over how badly he's botched all of this.

Imagine if we could've had a real PGA tour version of F1/ Premier league with relegation and calling up players to teams when they're on a heater. Instead we get a hit and giggle with some washed up guys and a few stars. And an even less interesting PGA tour. At least until we see the real changes they roll out and that is going to take time.

Is it really crazy money or getting more in line with other crazy money (average salaries) of other pro sports?  For the record, I think most pro sport revenues and salaries are complete lunacy.
    NBA $4.3M
    MLB $3.5M
    NFL $2.7M
    NHL $2.7M
    PGA $1.5M
    MLS $0.47M
    Euro Tour $0.26M
    Asia Tour $0.17M
So a dead last place finish in all 15 LIV events earns more than the current tour average. I'm not saying that's good or bad but it's not that hard to understand why players are choosing this path.

after my 8y 3m 10 day military went to work at a defence electronic company in az for 30 years as a employee , i could not work for a competitor , i took a buyout , went to illinois and bought 200a farm , too much work , sold it my wife and i came back to scottsdale  , i went to work for the same company i retired from as a job shopper ( contract labor like pga players )., did not sign any agreement as whow i could work for after hours .
the pga will lose in court , the only chance they would have  is to make all active players employees , give the  150 starting players each $5000 for the week ( $750,000 )  , if they make the cut money they earn  is just gravy
the phoenix open numbers -- over 700,000 people for the week avg $60 a ticket is 42 million , over 1000 volunteers that have to buy their own shirts
this would not break the pga

Probably not at this point but I do think some collaboration will happen with both the PGA and DP. No idea what that might look like at this point - just suspect it will come to that. LIV's strategy may very well be offering this big money, exhibition, easy going format simply to fill the hopper with well known players and get traction. Thus far, they have been wildly more successful than I expected (since I didn't think it would ever happen/launch). If they get Matsuyama, Smith and a handful of other top 50 players, "Katie bar the doors".
Their long range plan may be to move to a more traditional format, ala Champions Tour with a cut.  This would meet the OWGR requirements and keep the not yet senior journeymen happy.  Lots of possibilities could play out. Pretty fascinating happenings in the world of professional golf for sure... who'd a thunk it?

Am I missing something here? Finally there is a better option for professional golf. Do baseball players and football players not play to win because they are paid to be there? Every one of these guys deserves to be paid to play whether or not they win, the same model as every other sport. Didn't the PGA tour get mad as heck at Tiger because he was getting paid to play and they didn't like it so they banned it? Just my 2 cents worth.

Sorry, this got really long. It happens. You can skip this, I won't feel sad.
LIV will not grow the game in the USA, it isn't good for the overall golf product in terms of putting the best players out there every week. But Greg's point in the mid 1990's was that golf is played globally, and the PGA should be doing more to grow that. LIV is letting him take the show on the road.
The money is amazing, life changing and ridiculous. And for an American player, that is the main draw. The less work is a nice bonus. For the international players, its obvious about the money too. But, LIV/Greg is offering something to them that the PGA Tour never offered, and out right declined to do. And that is to take the sport globally.
I live in Washington State, I have seen 2 PGA tour events happen in this state in my life time (41 years). It has been to this state 3 times ever. I get that events take sponsors and you aren't going to have every state with equal events played.... But the PGA tour could have come up with a few rotating spots in its schedule with the goal of getting to every state. There are 10 states that have never hosted a PGA event.... how(?!) Delaware is coming off this list this summer, go Delaware!
As an international player it is way worse, the Tour has basically said thanks for playing here, and you will be well paid, but we aren't interested in doing anything with you to help grow this game in your country. Australia, Spain, South Africa, Norway(!), etc... have golf talent that we can all name, and historical talent too and those players don't get to take their games on the biggest stage to their home countries.
The DP world tour is starting to do more partnerships, it has co status with the Australian open this year. But that is also the DP world tour, which lets be real, its the global version of the Korn Ferry tour.
LIV might nor might not do events in those countries in the future, but it has positioned itself so that it can. And I am willing to make a large wager, that every conversation with an international player that LIV has had also includes that carrot.
"Hey Cam, I know you want to see the game grow in Australia. We know the PGA Tour has been less then helpful in getting you back there to play your national open and do anything official there. Our 5 year plan is to have 2 events a year in Australia where you get to headline and help take this great game home." -Greg
Rinse repeat for every other Int. player.
The PGA Tour does Mexico, Japan, Canada, and some Caribbean stops(4). I can't name a player from the Caribbean and it gets 4 events a year... Obviously the PGA tour goes where its sponsors want it to go. Which isn't bad, it pays the bills, but it isn't really trying to grow the game with that plan. I would say that Augusta National, a private club, has done much more to grow the game of golf in the last decade then the PGA tour. Drive Chip N Putt, and the Women's amateur are big deals.  Augusta inviting so many of the international amateur winners is also big.
So yes, for Americans, it is all about the money. For the international player, Money #1, but the possibility of taking the game home... #2 and honestly for some, it might be #1.

There are some very key points within the OWGR and how it works which should be addressed. There are upwards of 15 different qualifications that any tour needs to meet in order to gain OWGR points. There are some grey areas LIV can take advantage of and yes PGA Tour China got an excemption early, however if you look at the name PGA TOUR should be highlighted as it was essentially an branch off the PGA Tour not it's own individual tour entirely.

Keep in mind many man other tours have been forced to have and meet these standards in order to gain OWGR, handing LIV a free pass would actually be more anticompetitive and unfair to all the leagues that went through and spent the money before to meet these criteria.
    So lets get into this
    1. A tour must operate at least 10 events a year - Check
    2. Those must have a min purse of $50,00 - Check
    3. An average field size of 75 - Not there yet, but talk of them expanding larger events internationally to 144 which would help offset this and provided they expand enough they can get the average to 75, but the format must change.
    4. Events must be at minimum 54 holes (Check) but with a cut after 36 holes (no check). Again yes there are some exceptions to this rule, however it took any tournament that doesn't reach this criteria years to gain the allowance of OWGR points.
    5. OWGR requires that a tour provide a pathway for its player onto the full-member tour. In order for this to work for them they must work directly with the Asian Tour by guaranteeing cards for top X amount of finishers. So again partial check.
    6. OWGR Requires a tour hold a qualifying school before the start of the season or a qualifying process into each event... yeah no, don't meet this one.
**note LIV has a plan for this, but it will take 1-2 full seasons to implement**
    7. OWGR Requires that a tour be in operation for at least one full season meeting all the above requirements. (no check and this is where LIV argues about PGA China)

I'm not going to say it is a slam dunk any way or another. There is a ton of grey area and in the end it will be the Majors that decide whether LIV gets OWGR points, however with all the big names exempt for the next couple seasons anyway (again urge anyone to listen to the NLU podcast where DJ dives into this big) why should by pass making LIV meet all of this? **There is a OWGR board who votes on all of this made up of 7 I believe and all the Majors have their own vote**
Now while this is all going on and we/anyone truly doesn't know how long it will take to get reviewed (the official application was only submitted July 6th) with the new OWGR changes as I previously elluded to takes into account the whole field. Meaning Mexico this year would have been awful because it was Rahm and nobody else really. Whereas this year because Rahm was in it he boosted them big time. There needs to be an even balance of high ranked players in order to truly get a better strength of field.
Meanwhile now that Major season is over all the LIV guys will not be gaining points. Loosing spots, dropping down the rankings and for reference it takes roughly 30 weeks total to drop out of the top 100. So say even if this all settles and the fog lifts from this mess in say 8 months in time for the Masters and start of next years Major season most if not all these guys are going to be outside the top 100 and given that they will have no way outside of pulling in new guys of getting a strength of field to boost their events and rankings for winning them.
So how do guys that are now outside of the top 100 now get more points to boos their standings and therefore strength of field? Well they have to play well at the Majors for one and likely have to play more Asian Tour events... which if we remember for many of them said they wanted to go to have more time off. However with 14 events scheduled next season 4 majors and now Asian tour events to try and keep their OWGR ranking they will be playing way more then they would have had they stayed.
This is a long post, but seriously there is a long road ahead it won't be pretty and there is going to be a lot of nonsense moving forward however there are regulations that many many other tours have had to put in place like the DP World Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour, PGA Tour of Australia and Asian Tour which have been made to follow all of the points above and more before getting access to OWGR. LIV should be no different, doesn't matter who went over, bending or ignoring all the regulations which others have been made to follow could open up cases for other tours to sue and so much more.

AFP Report…”Former US President Donald Trump on Monday urged golfers to "take the money" and sign with the Saudi-backed LIV series amid reports more players were poised to join the controversial circuit.   "Trump, who is hosting LIV events at two of his golf courses this year, said in a post on his Truth Social network that players should not hesitate to abandon the PGA Tour, which he branded "disloyal".   "All of those golfers that remain 'loyal' to the very disloyal PGA, in all of its different forms, will pay a big price when the inevitable MERGER with LIV comes, and you get nothing but a big 'thank you' from PGA officials who are making Millions of Dollars a year," Trump wrote."   "If you don't take the money now, you will get nothing after the merger takes place, and only say how smart the original signers were," he added."

I believe the PGA is going to be in for a big surprise.  The PGA has long been the biggest part of golf (99.99%).  But the PGA is NOT the game of Golf.  Have they done more up until this point in time for the game, without question they have.  Has just doing whatever they wanted, and no competition,  given them the impression that they ARE THE GAME, it certainly has.
But as hard for it is for them to accept, they are NOT the game of golf.  They are a company who up until now has held the only means for people who play golf really well to make a living at it.  I believe that the justice department will find that to have rules in place, that squash competition, and threaten your emloyees  with financial, and other  penalties for seeking a better job, will violate anti-trust, or some other federal employment standard.
The PGA through theats and coercion, are trying to keep its employees, indebted, and borderline hostage to the PGA.  About the only thing separating the PGA, from the coal industry of the late 1800's is that at least the PGA is not paying its players in "script", which then had to be used "at the company store", so the money all went right back to the mine owners.
Make no mistake for all its talk, the game of golf is still an "Elitist snobbish game", you are seeing it from Monahan and whoever is in charge of the R&A.  They are NOT PROTECTING THE GAME OF GOLF, they are trying to protect their greed, and their monopoly, on a BILLION dollar a year industry.    They clearly don't care about me, because I haven't gotten my questionarre from the PGA as to if I would like to see all these guys play on both, becasue I would.
