If only I had read this before my round yesterday. Did play a couple of Mulligans on the way round to a 76  but no Scramble.  Weather quite settled this week and trying to get out later today.

@Bohnson I'm curious to learn more about how you're utilising your Garmin data to get better analysis out of DECADE. Do you have the CT10 tags as well? Could you share more?

@Paco Chan thanks for reaching out. I really use the Garmin s70 to map my rounds. Specifically driving distance. i do not have the club tags. Really using the garmin for the GPS aspect and taking my yardages from all shots to plug them into the DECADE system to get my strokes gained. It is more time consuming than I like but it gives me what i consider is good enough.

I'm also considering a switch from Garmin to Shot Scope specifically for the analytics (Strokes Gained), so would love to see how our awesome testers feel about that aspect of the V5! Happy testing!

Thank you my spy and Shotscope for giving me the opportunity to test the new V5 watch out. I am really looking forward to seeing how the watch performs.  I’ve been using Shotscope (H4) for a few months now and the information from each round has been truly beneficial to my preparation and practice. Can’t wait to see all the features on the new watch!

So far, my favorite things with Shotscope are the club distances, and strokes gained statistics. The club gapping at least gives me a good idea of what club I should be hitting. The numbers on mine are a tad skewed because I play the same course all the time that has several downhill par 3s.

The strokes gained statistics has really helped me to know where to practice the most. I would have thought my driving was the worst part of my game, put the numbers show it’s by far my putting!

    Howzit everyone!👋🏽🤙🏽
I would like to start this introduction by thanking MyGolfSpy, the community and also Shot Scope for making this testing opportunity possible, weekly testers are being given the opportunity to test the latest tech and equipment, without you guys, these tests wouldn’t be possible, so from my family to your, thanks so much.👏🏽
    Intro:
Right, my name is Rohan, I’m 36 years old (turning 37 this Saturday) and I’m from sunny South Africa, staying in a mining town called Middelburg, located in the Mpumalanga province which is home to the Kruger National Park and the world famous and magnificent, Leopards Creek Golf Club, where the Alfred Dunhill Championship is played annually.

I relocated to Middelburg from a town called Mossel Bay in the Western Province for work, and currently working on a Power Station project as a Commissioning Engineer in the field of Control and Instrumentation. I got married to the most amazing and beautiful woman on God’s green earth last year December and I am so grateful for all her patience and support with me and my addiction for this amazing but sometimes frustrating game we call golf. The background you see in the wedding picture, that's the Kruger National Park 🤩😍

    My game:
I started playing golf seriously about 8 years ago, prior to that, it was just a social outing for me and an opportunity to have a few beers with my friends and family. I’m currently playing on a 14HC but pretty sure it will improve as this year progress. Also worth mentioning, I am a cross-handed (cackhanded) golfer so for me it’s almost impossible to get a lesson or to implement YouTube videos on my game, but I am figuring it out as I go along and think I am not doing too bad thus far 😊 I play about once, maybe twice a week depending on my work loads, fortunately for me, I have 6 different course I can choose from in the region. Below you will find a video of my swing on the range using my MEVO.

    VID_212130906_120437_527.mp4
Back to business - My testing game plan:
Currently I am using the Garmin S62 watch. My plan for this test will be not only to compare the two brand to one another (btw, how many times have you see someone wearing 2 watches, especially on the course LOL🤣) but also to check out the full features which Shot Scope offer like the MyStrategy, Strokes Gained and Tee shot Plotted features available on the Dashboard and App. Using the 16x Gen2 tags will also be handy in getting more in-game yardages, because we all know, you can have more or less an idea from going to the range and using a launch monitor, but when it comes to the course, it’s a different ball game. I will be using a range finder to refence the different yardages for accuracy. . Another interesting test will be to see the accuracy of the international courses loaded on the watch (+36 000 preloaded courses).  I will also be using this as a day to day watch and let you all know how it’s preforming.
I invite and welcome you all along as I test the beautiful watch.
    Final Write-up and Review
First Impressions (10 out of 10)
I would like to start off by mentioning how fantastic the Shot Scope's packaging was. The internal item packaging was well protected.
Opening the package revealed this beautiful watch! My first observation was in regards to the size of the watch; it was definitely smaller than what I was used to, comparing it to the Garmin S62. It's an all-plastic construction and looks very sporty with a plastic bezel. The watch has a surprising light feel to it, which made it very comfortable on the course.
Inside the box, along with the watch, you will find 16xGen2 tags, a charger cable, and an instruction manual (very informative). Everything is neatly packed.

    Aesthetics (9 out of 10)
The material used for the strap is soft rubber. The strap actually blends in with the watch, with no watch tags visible. The buckle on the strap has been installed on the lower strap and not on the traditional upper strap. The reason for this, I have learned, is that the RFID reader for the tags is installed inside the strap itself. On the wrist, the watch sits comfortably, and in no way does it restrict any hand movement. The installation of the 16x Gen2 tags was a pretty straightforward task; they just screw in on the back of the grips and sit flush when installed. There is absolutely no overhang on the tags, and if you are concerned about extra weight on the club, don't be; they weigh a mere 3.8 g (0.134 ounces) on average! I did notice with the tags that there's no tag for your 5Wood (I used the 3W tag) and also for the 4 Hybrid (I used the 2H tag) (-1). The buttons on the sides feel great and have a good "click" on them. The watch is very responsive and not at all sluggish while going through the menus. I love the fact you have 5 different background screens to pick from. The installation of the app was easy, and pairing the watch with your phone will almost be effortless.

The Numbers (18 out of 20)
The accuracy of the watch was great; I compared it to the Garmin S62 and also did spot checks using my Callaway 200S rangefinder. I only had one instance where there was a discrepancy between the two watches, but I suspect it was more of a mapping issue than watch (GPS) accuracy. The lay-up distances were also great and very helpful, as well as accurate. I did notice quite a few shots that were not recorded; most of these shots were around the green, short shots like a bump and run, and short chips (-1).
The average charge time for the watch is about one hour and twenty minutes. The charging port and charger are of sturdy construction and fit snugly. I did not experience the great battery life as promised by Shot Scope (2+ rounds); for example, after one round of 18 holes, I had 27% battery life left. Many factors play a role in battery life drainage; it might be because of a slow field of play and how many times you use the watch during play to move flags around, check the lay-up distances, and also which putting mode you use. (-1)

    On-Course (18 out of 20)
On the course, the watch performed well; the buttons were easy to press and the menu was easy to navigate. When starting a new round, I never had to wait long for the watch to find the GPS signal. The watch itself was never in the way or made playing uncomfortable, thanks to the sleek design of Shot Scope and the softish rubber strap. While in manual putting mode, one should just remember to record your putts before taking the putt and also then to collect the pin. This is something to get used to, but by making this part of your pre-shot routine while putting, it will quickly become the new norm. I was fortunate enough to play a round with my father, who normally would need spectacle to view the screen of my old Garmin S4 watch, but he could read the watch well compared to the S4 he tried out for one round. I would have liked for the screen to be a bit brighter or to have the option to adjust the brightness of the screen, or even to invert the background colors from white on black to black on white. The reason for this, I noticed on overcast days, is that it’s sometimes difficult to read the screen. (-1) The only difficulty I experienced using the watch was when I had to move to the pin location. You need to cycle through the default location till you are on more or less the correct one. (-1) The digital scorecard also makes it much easier to keep score, and you can see your total score during play.
The tags also don’t interfere with my game, and you will hardly even notice they're there. Great design work from the Shot Scope team. Off-course the stats you get after closing out a round are amazing! I loved the fact you get all your averages on each club used as well as shot-gain stats, with no subscription needed. These stats give you an idea of where to improve your game; for me, I noticed my short game needs sharpening up. With these stats in hand, one can easily work on improving their game.

The good, the bad, the in-between (17 out of 20)
What I really loved about this product is there is absolutely no subscription! I have never met someone who doesn’t like a free subscription to a service that offers you amazing stats about your game. From averages of your bag, shots gained statistics, and the awesome MyStrategy feature, all of this is free when you opt for the Shot Scope V5, which really comes in at an amazing price compared to other watches on the market. Did I mention the tags are included in the price? Pretty sweet deal. The dashboard even gives you the option to benchmark yourself against other handicaps and includes a fun medal collection section. Well done to Shot Scope on the design and layout of the dashboard along with the features. Another thing I loved was that during a round on the F/M/B screen, you can see the time without pressing any buttons, which is always great. What I really did want in the watch was for it to have a much better IP rating (-1); by doing this, the watch will become more of an everyday watch rather than just a golf watch. The watch is splash-proof, but how much splash is too much? I really didn’t want to test that for you guys. I apologize for that. Would also like to see Shot Scope maybe testing the waters with a more smart-watch like golf watch. The editing after a round can be quite time-consuming on some occasions; unfortunately, you will have to sign off the round before any of the stats become available to access. (-1)

Play it or trade it? (15 out of 20)
Personally, and in my absolute honest opinion, I am not going to play it permanently but will definitely still use the MyStrategy feature. This is an amazing tool, and I think it's a huge bonus to have with the watch, especially because there’s no subscription. I absolutely love the data and statistics the watch gives me, but if I compare the watch to the S62 I currently own, I would rather continue using the S62. My reason is simple: I want a watch that can do it all and has more protection against water. I don’t want to remove my watch every time I take a shower or go for a swim (-5). I really hope Shot Scope will upgrade the next watch to have more of an IP rating, at least 1 ATM. I will donate this watch to my father after a few months, (still want to be able to give updates on this thread), who is currently not owning a GPS watch. I know this will help him with yardages while playing.

    Conclusion
If you are in the market for a brilliant, accurate, sleek and sporty-looking golf watch that is comfortable and light weight while playing and you don’t want to break the bank, this one is definitely for you! The added bonus of the 16x Gen2 tags and free subscription to amazing golfing tools such as club averages, strokes gained information, and MyStrategy (a course management tool) are amazing value for money. I really enjoyed testing this watch; I just wish it was more protected against water. Please note, this is a golf watch, NOT a smart watch, but maybe Shot Scope might surprise us all, and the next product will be one to dethrone leaders in the watch industry.

    Final Score : 87/100
Thank you so much MyGolfSpy and Shot Scope, for giving me this amazing opportunity, I really did enjoy testing out this watch for you.

Nice to start posting on VCT again!
Today was a scorching hot day here in Singapore. We are trying to cram as many rounds in at our only public 18 before it's shut down at the end of June. After that, we can only hope more tee times are made available at a semi-private course.
Today I tested out my friend's KZG irons to replace my Sterling single-lengths. I think I might have to go back to regular clubs. 🤪 the driver was a little more erratic than usual, but the irons saved the day, putting me within striking distance every time. Just need to tighten up the putting.

After a brief offseason, the VCT is back!!!!!
Buckle up buckaroos, we have some changes to the format. Here are the pertinent details:
    Start Date: 4-22-24
    End Date: 10-6-24
The season will run 24 weeks for season 3, rather than a full calendar year, unlike season 2.
End of Season Tournament: 10-14-24 through 11-3-24
For the offseason, we will still have a weekly leaderboard for those that live in year-round golfing climates, but the main competition for next off season will be a SIM league we are developing that will run through the winter months. Details to come.
    Format Change:
We are instituting a Flight System, and will breakdown as follows:
    Flight I - + to 5
    Flight II - 6 to 10
    Flight III - 11 to 15
    Flight IV - 16 to 20
    Flight V - 21 to 25
    Flight VI - 26+
    How are the flights determined?
To avoid any confusion regarding course handicaps or allegations of sandbaggery, with each round posted we will be asking for the following information:
Member Name Course Name Gross Score Course Slope Course Rating # of Actual Eagles or Birdies Longest Drive Distance The gross score, slope, and rating will be added to a spread sheet each week and after week 5, each participant that submitted enough rounds will be given their VCT handicap and assigned to one of the flights above. Once the flights have been established, a scoring system will be used to give points to each member based on where their best score places them within their flight for the week. Also, there is a wrinkle I have decided to add: We will have in season Promotion and Relegation within the flights. Each golfer gets 2 passes, where they exceed their handicap i.e. a Flight III golfer shoots a PB 74, without consequence. After the 2 passes are used, a PB round of 74 would earn them a promotion to Flight II. Conversely, there will be 2 passes for blow-up rounds, after which a golfer will be relegated to a lower flight, i.e a Flight II golfer posts an 89,  after using their 2 passes they would be relegated to Flight III. A fascinating sidebar to this will be watching members rise through the flights, as their games improve over the course of a season, so there will be a trophy room badge given in the EOS awards for the highest riser. There will also be weekly badges given in each flight for top finisher, # of actual birdies or better, and longest drive. However, we have done away with bonus points for the birdie or long drives. The points for the season will be based solely on finishing order within each flight. A points standings will be made available with the flight results each week.
Caveat: We are still working with the developer on the getting the submission form the way we want it, so the first couple weeks may look similar to last season. I would ask that each score that is posted contain the course slope and rating. I will also accept combined 9 hole scores, as long as each nine has slope and course rating included.
Lastly, welcome back! Let's make this the best season yet!!!!

That's right. I think the speed has somehow helped reduce any last-minute tinkering by my hands. I used to have a fairly even split of 33/33/33 between left/fairway/right, but now it's closer to 30/59/11. While the block right isn't gone completely, it definitely shows up less often and I can then manage the course better.

As you can see from the 2 trend lines, the increase in speed continues at more or less the same pace.

played 9 holes yesterday, didnt have time to try out the speed priming sadly so went into it rather cold.  I will say though my driver shots were much crispier.  pity its winter conditions lol.  0 roll out.  Still several drives that were 230+ carry.  Cant complain.
Session today set a plethora of personal bests.  This is getting silly and fun.

Hey @KJK76, I've also generally found the estimations and extrapolations of the eSpeed to be suspect. I've internalized it two ways:
Like you, I look at the Stack performance relative to itself... so seeing the improvement there creates it's own self-motivating loop. "I'm swinging this thing faster!" I cross-reference that by recording 6-iron clubhead speeds (at the driving range) and see that similarly, those data points are also trending upwards. According to Stack, my eSpeed is supposed to be 114mph, which I find to be a load of rubbish on the course. However, I've definitely seen longer drives on the course, so I know something is working and it's literally translating into real life.

@KJK76 I think some experience kind of a learning curve/increase in the comfort of swinging the stack. I am sure it will normalize quickly and you will see some major jumps within sessions 1-10.

@Paco Chan E-Speed will translate to the fastest you can swing your driver length the same way you swing the stack. So E-speed will translate to the max you would swing your driver no ball in that exact moment in time. That would be up to you to add in "special sessions" and work your on-ball/on-course speed gap to inch closer to your max.
I have been working in some "full Bryson" sessions in the net and find I am in that range of 4-8 mph lower than e-speed 90% of the time.

It was nice to be back in the tropics. The round started out really well - 24 footer to save par, followed by a GIR par 3. After 6 holes, the round was looking really good at +2!
Then the threesome I had joined up with asked if I wanted to bet drinks with them - I thought it rude not to partake on such a low-stakes game. Whoops.
Finished holes 7/8/9 at +4 to round the turn at 42. 🤦‍♂️
As I let the game get to my head (both figuratively and literally), I finished the back 9 at +11 to finish the round at 89. So obviously kicking myself for not staying the course, but I will admit those blokes were quite a riot to play with, despite it killing my round.
But I'm also really happy that a "round killer" was still only an 89. Ball striking was generally good. Lag putting was what saved the day today, even after 6 beers. It sets me up for some good scores going into 2024!
