  1. Started out the day pretty well with a 2 over 38 with 2 bogeys coming on 3 putt holes. The back was a completely different story as I seemed to completely lose my swing from 13-17; lost 5 golf balls during that stretch. Got it back together on 18 and finished with a birdie.
  2. Not sure I agree with angle of attack aspect. Ball position and stroke will influence that more than offset. Ball back in stance will generally be more descending and forward will be more ascending. What you are taking about us more about loft. Hands forward decrease loft and hands back add loft. This can be influence by setup and eye dominance as well. We talked about how right eyed dominant players have a tendency to point the shaft right and add loft and left eye dominant tend to lean the shaft forward and deloft. Deloft may make you hit the ball into the ground because you don’t have enough loft to lift the ball out of its depression. All part of the stroke dynamics of a player and why knowing these particulars helps you find the right putter.
  3. I didn’t post much after I saw the putters because I didn’t want to say anything I shouldn’t. After seeing the pictures on another forum I think it is okay to talk about them a little. Hopefully I explain this correctly and it isn’t just my incorrect recollection [emoji2] There are two models of the big offset slant neck. One was cast and had more offset and was partially considered a training aid, the other a milled version with a little less offset. When setting up to the ball you align the back of the ball with the front of the shaft which will position the putter face about 2 inches behind the ball. This helps shorten the backswing, improve the forward swing, and help get the putter square to the target line at impact. Ultimately teaching a better overall stroke (shorter backswing, longer follow through) Wasn’t that hard to get used to and I did roll the ball well. I think it is largely about perception and how you responding to what you are seeing. You just seem to hold the putter square to the path for a bit longer. When he was helping me with my stroke one of the drills he had me do was setup to the ball and move the putter back about an inch behind the ball, sort of simulating what this putter does but this putter has the shaft in your “normal” setup without impacting ball position or shaft angle. Another was to have the sightline on my putter pass over a spot immediately in front of the ball, to keep the face moving down the target line for a split second longer. Hope that makes sense and is accurate
  4. They are all nice. Had the opportunity to put with them last week. The one with the ball offset is interesting as well as it’s counterpart (shown in the bag picture; has all the sight lines). Glad I got to have Guerin explain the intent and what it is designed to do; otherwise I would have had the same reaction as on the other forum. This is part of the reason I haven’t bought one, better stuff comes out each year. Probably going to end up with the 8.3.
  5. For those interested in seeing the new models coming out next year there is a thread on WRX that has pictures.
  6. Thanks. I was thinking that part of the video follow up from Martin might be to do X drill with some aid since as you said he loves training aids
  7. I guess it depends on where you focus lies. In reading yours posts you have defined a set of club specs that you want to find. Essentially you want something one off since you started getting into stamping. One off is almost Impossible to get or would be extremely cost prohibitive for a company due to the tooling. I honestly have no real care for what loft, lie, length I play. I simply care about results. Take a set and start adjusting to make the clubs perform. The adjustable woods do a pretty good job of slowing you to effectively adjust lie, loft, and face angle. I know you have limitations that won’t let you play golf anymore, but I think you would be able to find a set of more modern clubs that give you the results you want. Honestly I am surprised you don’t have more to say about the ball since back in the days of balata balls you could actually work tee ball to get the shot types you are seeking with your custom clubs.
  8. You need to factor the cost of materials and labor into you discussion. What would the cost of the clubs you mentioned be in today’s dollars? I think OEMs offer lots of options and in the case of putters I need to make some sacrifices, but used, or do custom to get what I need. You have the ability to get everything you want. Length, lie, and loft are all able to be changed. People modify the off the standard co figuration if clubs all the time. It would be i Possible for an OEM to be able to custom build a set for every person that wanted one.
  9. Thanks for the follow up. Do you still use any of the training aids used during the class? If so which do you think are most valuable and do you think they would be beneficial to a person that hasn’t gone through the school. I am thinking about the smart ball which seems to have been used a lot to help sync up the swing.
  10. During my round, I worked on applying some of the tips that I got from Guerin Rife on putting. Initial feedback is that the tips will be very helpful and it was very kind of him to take time to help me with my putting stroke. Some of the the drills are as follows (remember I miss left on putts): Putt with two balls side by side and get them to roll side by side. When I first did this drill, the right ball was going further. Can fix with ball position or path change. Move the ball up in stance and address ball normally. Should leave about inch or so gap between putter and ball. Putting this way will help reduce rotation. And help square the face at impact. The one I like best which I apply during the round is to pick a spot right in front of the ball and make a stroke that has the center of the putter go over that spot. This really helped me with my shorter putts during the round. Guerin also told me this was good to do with full swing shots as well. The short term effect i am seeing is better start line for my putts. Hopefully this turns into better reads as I get better at hitting my start-line. We also talked about the need to keep the shaft vertical at setup. I did a pretty good job but he indicated that right eye dominant players have a tendency to lean the shaft backwards and led eye have a tendency to forward press. These tendencies sometimes result in inconsistent distance control due to incorrect Loft.
  11. Got some putting practice in after I did my most wanted testing. Guerin Rife happened to be there and he was kind enough to give me a few tips to help me fix my left miss.
  12. Stopped by MGS to do some most wanted testing; got to try some of the 2019 models. Really nice stuff and every time I see the new putters, I want to wait for them to come out.
  13. You should find a new job prior to quitting. Unless you are a short period of time from being vested or fulfilling a contractual obligation you can always seek another job.
  14. Practiced short putts while waiting to start my most wanted session. Missing too many 3-4 footers when I get on the course. Seem to be trying to steer the ball on these putts.
  15. Yep and I poured a cup of water down each drain and there was no blockage and it came out quickly.
  16. Water leaks in cars are a pain to find. My mom called to tell me she had water in the driver and passenger side floor. I clean the car up, spray water all over the car, check the various drains and everything seems fine. Rains a little bit and the car gets flooded again. Guess I have to start again trying to find this leak. Frustrating!
  17. The T-less driver actually works pretty well for swing speeds under 100. More spin at the lower swing speeds helps with distance. I have personally seen players getting 15+ yards over their 3 wood and I can vouch for the fact that it works pretty well.
  18. Put a flashlight at the opening and say there's your attic light [emoji3].
  19. My head scratcher is flat putts, I keep over reading them. For some reason I am seeing break that isn't there.
  20. Need to do something different. Played 36 on a course I have never played. Shot 84/86. Hit the ball well off the tee approach shots weren't great and I got a lot of short game work. Pitching and chipping needs more work on distance control, making solid contact and carry/rollout is going past the hole. Need to work if green reading, hitting my line but it is just the wrong line. Started picking better lines as the day went in. Maybe I just need a range time, or lessons, or just a short break. I know I can play better, but just getting frustrated with where I am now.
  21. Has to be the practice. I really like mine, but they didn't automatically make me a better player.
  22. Specifically the gray toyota camry trunk carpet. Was discussed a few years ago https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ben-crane-touts-toyota-camry-trunk-carpet-as-the-best-indoor-putting-surface-seriously
  23. store with golf equipment and hitting bays, what can be bad about that?
  24. Ulnar whatiation????? I'd would have to stop using that instructor.; he talks too much physiology type things. Edit: just looked it up, he wants you to have a hand deformity? 🤪[emoji12]🤪[emoji12]🤪
  25. Well at least I am doing that part. I am lead arm dominant throughout the bag.
