PrayingForPar reacted to Braehead in LAB DF3 - the honeymoon is over
It really pains me to post this but with 22 rounds under my belt with the LAB DF3, I can definitely say that my putting has deteriorated since I made the switch.  It got off to a great start but my strokes gained putting has deteriorated quite considerably.  With the 42 rounds I have logged in Tangent my SGP relative to a scratch player is +0.3.  For the last 10 it is -0.5 and for the last 20 it is +0.2.  So the trend is worsening and the recent poor rounds are dragging down the total.

For those who read my original review when I ordered the club you'll remember that the performance differential with my Toulon Atlanta was quite close but I was more confident with short putts with the LAB.   That is still the case but the biggest issue I have with the club is pace control.  I just can't get the hang of it.  Touch and finesse is where I'm struggling.
I've definitely found the club to be hotter off the face than my Toulon and that has undoubtedly caused some issues with pace and line.  I've gone from dying the ball in the hole to consistently missing long and right, probably not adjusting the borrow for the extra pace off the face.  I do think you need to alter how you putt naturally to get the most out of this club and that can feel awkward at times.

I'm not prepared to give up on the club just yet, especially as I paid £575 for it, but I'm very tempted to go back to my Toulon and give this one some time out of the bag.  But it might never get back in.  I'll make some time to get to the practice green this week and do some more drills up against my Toulon.  Right now though, the early confidence has had a considerable setback.

PrayingForPar reacted to n1texansfan in San Diego PXG Store
PXG opened a new store in San Diego today and I booked a free 30 minute swing session over a month ago so I could come and check out some clubs that I’ve been eyeing for awhile now (the 0211 irons). In an effort to not burry the lede, even though my swing session was free, I did still get a free box of PXG balls for those who are wondering.
In addition to getting to try the 0211 irons I also got to swing the new Black Ops irons (that will be replacing the 0211 as PXGs game improvement irons). I actually learned about the new irons yesterday when MyGolfSpy announced that PXG was letting them find testers for them. Outside of this forum and the store I couldn’t find anything online about the new Black Ops irons.

My fitter (Eddie) had me swing my 7 iron (Taylor Made Oversize Burner (1996)) and after about 5 swings gave me a run down of my swing stats and handed me a 0211 7 iron. After a few swings he let me try the Black Ops 7 iron as well.  He made a few adjustments with each every few swings and gave me a huge pointer that helped me improve my distance drastically (on top of swinging a club from this century).

Eddie was obviously trying to sell me the clubs, for which I can’t blame him. It’s his job. But he wasn’t too pushy (everyone I talked to was super nice and helpful) and he made sure I got to swing the club as many time as needed before giving his final sales pitch. At the end of the day the 0211s felt a little nicer to me (in the small sample size I got of each.)

As many of you can probably relate to, I have to consult my wife (and see who gets picked to be testers for this PXG test coming up), but I’ve confirmed that I need to have some PXG irons in my bag soon. If you are in San Diego and interested in PXG clubs, or just want some free balls, the experience is worthwhile.
feel free to drop any questions below!

Totally agree with this. Its more of being hot than a hot take. I hate, HATE when people have zero courtesy to others or even attempt to rake a bunker. You none bunker raking fools should be banned and have to pay everyone's bar tab.

Added a Cobra BioCell 5-7 Wood, got a killer deal used at a shop here. I usually keep it set at 21* and it is the funnest club I have in the bag now. Makes me want to get a 9 wood.
Also, Switched to MaxFli Tour X balls, absolutely love them and you can't beat the deals right now. With my swing speed I noticed a slight drop in iron distance, but gained much needed spin and height with my irons.
Oh, and I bought a PRGR off ebay from japan that only shows meters per second for swing and ball speed.....Maybe not worth the savings....

Don't be ashamed to play it forward if you can't hit it long. Listen, I have as much man pride as the next guy but if I can't keep up with my playing partners as far as distance, I'll move up a set. I played the forward tees at RNK and it didn't bother me a bit. It's all about getting out and enjoying the round.
See also: we need to remove the stigma around moving up a set of two.

PrayingForPar got a reaction from n1texansfan in Japanese Red Eyes PRGR Monitor - Best kept ebay secret?
Sorry for the delay, apparently things take more time than estimated coming from Japan.....
But I have received the Unit and took it to the range last week.
I hit a bucket of balls off grass at my local range going through all the clubs.
From what I can tell, it is exactly the same as the HS-130A other than being bright red and one HUMONGOUS caveat....Swing Speed and Ball speed are only in m/s. You can tell that the MPH option is on the screen, but I have tried every possible button combination to try and get the reading to change to MPH. I have scoured the internet and used every ai source I know of (other than Åberg), and still no solution to change the setting. If you have any ideas for changing the setting, please let me know.
That being said, the carry is still in yards.
From my perspective, The smash factor is still very useful as it has given me feedback on how poorly I am currently striking my long irons......But when it comes to swing speed, it would be nice to have it in MPH to be able to compare to what most publications have listed for "fast" or "slow" swing speeds. That being said, I am still going to keep it as I mostly care about swing speed as a reference marker to see gains. If I one day want to brag about my swing speed, I can just convert from m/s to mph.
If you can afford the extra $60 or so for the HS-130A, it would be a big difference. But at that price point I may look at some of the other offerings out right now...

Why does how someone else swings influence their ability to teach?  Does the swing have to look a specific way for you to take their advice?  You could even be better than the instructor;  the PAT requires that the person shoots equal to or lower than the course rating for 36 holes + 15 strokes.

My hot take:  Just because someone is a professional golfer (plays golf for a living) doesn't mean they can explain what they do or even teach an aspect of golf.

    Hot take #34
Showing up at a tee time right at the mark, and then asking the starter to wait a few minutes for your playing partner who ran back to their vehicle.

Search enough and one can find data to support any argument they want to make on one side or another. It then comes down to who they trust the most in terms of data validation, which again can be subjective.

Why do we always circle around the same topics with these threads?
Let's try someone just a bit fresh, have some fun with the debate and enjoy the conversation versus making it to the same exact argument that has been happening with all the shaft threads recently.
It is okay for people to have opinions/takes/other experiences then those of others.

After having the 10.5* head to play with for a couple of days while evaluating the Paderson shaft, and seeing the difference in my LM numbers, I just bought a 913 D2 10.5* off eBay last night.

I went and and got fit for a driver for the first time this past weekend. Ended up going with the Mizuno JPX 850. Picked up about 15 yards of carry over my G25 by being able to dial in the spin and launch numbers. Based on my range session today, I'm extremely excited about it. Consistently hitting baby draws with it. Also picked up the JPX 850 3W as well as 19* and 23* JPX Fli Hi hybrids with Nippon N.S. Pro 1150 shafts at 2* up to match my irons. Really excited for this season.

I use the same grip throughout the bag, but the same with others when it comes to chipping.
Recently when testing a club at Golf Galaxy I was paying attention to the club and path info on the trackman. As someone above stated, sometimes your hook or slice may not at all be about the club face but could be the path.
Seems to me it would be better to keep grip the same throughout every club and then work on ball placement and path for shot shaping.

PrayingForPar got a reaction from n1texansfan in Japanese Red Eyes PRGR Monitor - Best kept ebay secret?
    Hello All,
I have recently been in the market for a simple launch monitor to tune in my distances with wedges and Irons when on the range and at the course. My budget was $200 which sadly kept me out of the killer deals currently on the Mevo and SC3. I saw a few reviews out there for the new version of the PRGR and thought it would be a great fit for me and it might even get me into speed training.
Something told me to search on Ebay for one, and I came across a Red Eyes PRGR Launch Monitor for $153. From the little research I did, it appears Red Eyes is the name in which these monitors are released in Japan, and the Red version should be the exact same thing. I have previously ordered "gray market" canon cameras in the past with great success, and this seemed to be the same opportunity with this launch monitor.
The Red PRGR should be delivered this week and I am looking forward to seeing if it could be the best kept secret or if I am about to download Japanese duolingo and convert my life to meters in order to use it...
Full Review to be posted soon...

Can’t speak to Stix or GolfWorx but Sub70 is legitimately fantastic. I had a question about my specs as I had never had fitted clubs. I called the number and the owner of the company picked up and walked me through some basic measurements for length and lie angle. Then based on my swing speed and tempo gave me a very educated guess on what shafts would fit me best. Can’t say enough good things about them. I have now convinced 2 of my playing partners to but irons from them too and we have all had the exact same experience. I have since been fitted in person for a driver and the fitter said they nailed my iron specs and not to touch them till I want some new clubs.

Any wedge over 60 degrees. Doesn’t matter the brand. Just completely useless. Face and loft control can get a 56 to play way past 70 degrees , if necessary.

Weather or not Tiger Woods should retire. I for one say why would he?? Does anyone who genuinely think so actually play golf? I love golf! Tiger loves golf!! People don't quit golf if they don't have to. Why wouldn't he want to see his peers multiple times per year. Compete and have fun. Might as well tell anyone under top 100 in world ranking to quit and retire because they're clearly not winning. If I was tiger I would play any time I damn well felt , I'd play champions tour, senior tour, until I die! Why? Because I'm not even that good and I plan on playing until I absolutely no longer can because I have a foot in the grave. Go Tiger! I hope one day soon he wins and shuts up the haters. Until then I don't care if he takes some guys spot I've never heard of. He DESERVES it.
