PrayingForPar got a reaction from The TXBexar in Long putts right-handed and short ones left-handed (or vice versa)
Many people putt left hand low for long putts and right hand low for longer putts (I am one of them).
If you take time to putt one handed with each hand, it will show you which hand is causing your line issues and can influence the grip, for some it's the left and others the right. This would make sense for the left handed putting, as it would have the opposite hand being dominate. That is also why you see some guys go to claw to remove the influence of a specific hand.
    Just a theory.

    Hi all,
This is more for information rather than anything else.
I have a trackman driving range near me that I use quite regularly, to work on swing changes etc. but I noticed I didn’t get much height or stopping power with my irons. I usually got 20+ yards of runout with my 7 iron.
I contacted a local club fitter that has been used by people I watch on YouTube and went for a fitting.
After trying many different shafts, including graphite and steel I ended up going from 120g regular flex shafts to 70g stiff flex shafts and a loft adjustment of 1.5 degrees. I lost just 2 yards of carry distance but now my 7 iron stops within 7 yards.

The cost of new clubs would have been a minimum of £800 and then an upgraded shaft for optimum launch etc. instead, new shafts plus loft adjustments cost £500.

Just thought people might like to know about this.

Evnroll is selling off the remaining stock of ER 10 large mallet for $249..  Anybody here weigh in?  I am sorely tempted, but Edel, Sacks Parente, LAB, PXH, with a fitting, all are in the mix in my head but at a higher price.

i am going to throw my hat into the ring here. In 2020 before my accident I was 62 yoa and still hitting the driver about 250 260 at sea level. I was still playing our mid tees at 6167. Then my accident and recovery. I had to drastically shorten my swing. Needless to say from the accident and the natural effects of aging I lost a lot of distance. I said something to my pro one day about moving to the Super Senior (green tees) in the shootouts etc. He showed me the USGA chart on distance versus tees. With me hitting about an average these days about 210 220 I fell right in the category of 5100 to 5300 yards which our Super Senior tees were set up at 5120. He told me to jump up there because technically I am handicapped. Normally they do the Shootouts and event tee thing based on age. The league also did it on the age thing but they dropped that just before I joined. As far as handicaps the number depends on the players themselves. I have guys in their 70s that can blast it past me but I can beat them because of my short game. I have guys shorter than I am that can beat me because they have a better short game than I do. I used to be a bomb and gorge type player even into my 60s. I had to revamp my course management and plot and plod my way around the course
When I first came on here some 13 years ago I was a solid 5 from the back tees. Now days and our handicaps change from day to day with our system I hover between 9 and 13. I will admit it was hard to accept but I have came to grips with it now. I am still learning my new swing and how to plot my way around now.
But the numbers a person is the handicap they are for different reasons

I say, play from where your friends want to play and don't worry about it.
    But that's just me.
I play golf to relax, not to stress myself.

To many, however, its a blood-sport,
and that's perfectly fine too if that' how you enjoy it.
I get the handicap consideration if you play a lot of formal golf,
but the only organized golf that I play are two member-guests a year, one home and one away.
And lately, we've been playing scramble so much that I have no cards to turn in.

Moving up doesn't necessarily make things easier or mean you will lower you handicap.

I use all 3 wedges depending on the situation I'm facing. 50* for longer bump and runs, 54* for uphill shots, 58* for flop, bump, bunker and a number of short sided shots.

I don’t like running type shots.  I’m a 75% flight 25% run guy.  Mostly use my 54°, occasionally I will use my 48, but it has to be a long one, and even then I attempt a 60/40 carry/run. I was never very good at distance control on the runner, so I deleted it from my game.

I primarily use a 50* wedge. I can hit it higher, lower, bump and runs….
The only time I don’t use the 50 is to carry a feature (bunker or a mound) that has a short sided pin location. Then it’s a 60*
Right or wrong, I was taught 35 years ago to pick a club either a PW or Gap and learn to use it in all situations. Learn how to make it do anything you need it to do and you will eventually be a good short game player. It works for me.

I think @cnosil nailed it: it varies.
For me, my club selection depends on the type of lie, how much green I have to work with, how flat the green is and if I need to fly it more to the pin to help negate a green undulation.  I typically use anything from my pitching wedge (41 degrees) to my sand wedge (55 degrees).
I do carry a 60 degree lob wedge, but I typically don't use it much for chipping or around the green.   I may have to practice it more and get it more into the chipping repertoire.
For giggles, I pulled all my Shot Scope data from 2024 so far and here's my short game club usage:

You can see the variety of clubs I use.  Given my home course greens are relatively flat (except for a few situations), my gap (50 degree) and sand wedge (55 degree) get most of the use.  But it's still situational!

Considerations: for me 70 yards and longer are some sort of full shot.
65 yards and in are chips or pitches. For standard shots I use the putter, 50, 54, 58 depending on yardage and obstacles. I live in AZ and the courses I play generally don't have obstacles in front of the green, so I mostly chip. I recently switched my primary chipping club from the 58 to the 54 because of the heavier swing weight. This gives me better feel and more solid contact for consistency.
I wish I had learned the technique to pick a landing spot visualizing flight and roll out, but I didn't even think or hear of that until I had been playing for many years. Instead, I primarily use yardage and have set swings and club choices for 65 down to 5 yards. I favor playing over practice so this is an easier way for me to get up and down. I look at this way, even if I miss 10 greens and my success rate is only 30%, I'm still breaking 80. Luck into a birdie or 2 and a little higher success rate and end up with a pretty darn good score.

Even in short grass there could be different lies but we will assume I have a good lie.  But what does the green contour look like and how far; once I hit the green, does the ball need to run?   Flat green probably GW. uphill might take me to a PW or 9 depending on distance it needs to run.  Needing to get over a tier or downhill might mean SW.  long roll on the green maybe 7 or 8.  If that 20-40 feet is elevated I might bump 7-9 into the slope short of the green.

basically I don’t think there is a single answer and it may just get down to how I am feeling on that particular shot.

Sorry, for greater clarity, chipping from the short grass 20-40 feet off the green with a clear shot at the hole (no obstructions that would require a pitch). Intent is to get the ball into the hole.

Don’t have a go to; lie and intent determine club selection.

We appreciate the interest in our products. We have not released any sets to youtube reviewers yet for a few different reasons. We will in the near future, but right now are selling faster than expected, so we want to ensure we focus on getting customers their orders in a timely manner since everything we do is custom built in-house to spec.
If you have seen other reviews of our products, you can use that as a good guidance for trusting our new line of irons as they definitely will not disappoint given how much time and energy went into ensuring their quality and performance, as all of our products do 🙂

Took a leap of faith and put in an order for the SV.2 | PD.1 combo set a couple weeks ago. I’ll report back once I have a chance to get some range sessions in and get out on the course (takes a few weeks for them to be built). Super excited to give them a go once I have them, given reviews of their other clubs seem to be stellar. Personally also a big fan of the new look of the SV.2s and very similar looking PD.1s

The 7 wood absolutely changed my game, so much so that I would love to try a 9 wood.
I actually don't really think of my 3 wood and 7 wood in terms of gapping anymore, I can get almost the same carry with both of them, but completely different ball flight and the 3 rolls out. Hitting greens with the 7 wood has to be one of the most satisfying things I have ever experienced in golf.

Good afternoon! Anybody ever done a wedge gap analysis at either pgass or golf galaxy before? How does it work and what are the end goals??? I've done a driver and putter fitting before so I get the jist, but curious what goes on with the wedge type fittings.
    TIA!

A 7 wood went in the bag about a year ago.  Great addition as it turns out. Maybe my favorite club now. It gives me plenty of confidence on long par 4 and par 5 approaches.

"Confident shot on a conservative line" is one thing this still struggling to play in 80s dude learned at a clinic a few years back.
The one small problem with that seemingly simple approach is .. as @DaveP043 pointed out .. the actual execution of said shot can all too easily go askew.
So yeah golf swing skills development is still a big piece of the puzzle.
Another thing that helps me to keep in mind on the course is the "Haney Three" where you work to reduce ...

Flew this July for the first time using a soft case. I chose soft case purely based on price.
Took off all the adjustable heads, put a broomstick for support, and put all my irons in the bag upside down. Used clothes for "padding" around the bag and had 0 issues.
At the airport baggage claim, about 10 guys were picking up clubs and only one of them was a hard case.
My use case is that I only plan on flying with my clubs a handful of times in the coming years, but if I was flying a lot with my clubs, the club glove would be the way to go. Regretfully, after I got back from the trip I checked out marketplace and offerup for a club glove and they are all over the place for a fraction of the cost brand new.

To go off of what @Stuka44 and @cnosil are getting at....
At the beginning of my golfing addiction I took a lesson and the pro watched me hit all the clubs in my bag, he gave me the advice to hit 6 iron off the tee it helped me tremendously.
That being said, we probably shouldn't take information about what we hit best and then tell everyone that 6 iron or 7 iron is the best for them off the tee. I play regularly with my wife and from the moment she started golfing her best club was the driver and she feels comfortable with it. Helping someone break 90 is about helping them find the club THEY hit well and that THEY will feel comfortable over; Which chances are is a 6 or 7 iron......So did I just contradict myself?
In summary, I support helping people find better club choices to lower their score.
You can have a pretty horrible swing, play with good strategy, and break 90....

I walk by myself regularly at municipal courses and am often stuck behind people who either don't understand the concept of letting someone play through, or have the "I paid just as much as you did" mentality and think I should have to wait for their foursome...
If no one is behind me, once I finish the hole I take a few minutes to putt from different parts of the green while I wait.
With that, Golf for me is an outlet from a stressful and demanding job, so those moments of waiting are time for me to remember why I am out there; to unplug, clear my head, and get home to my wife in a good mood.
