  1. Congrats on the PB!! Low rounds come much easier now, because you know you can do it!!
  2. Welcome to the forums! Glad you joined us. I grew up in Corvallis, so many trips over the years through Portland. Played mostly in the Corvallis, Albany, Salem area, but have played a little around Portland. You should give Randy @Vegan_Golfer_PNW a shout to play sometime. Great guy! We played at Redtail once. Maybe he can help you out on practice areas.
  3. The Forefathers of Golf probably didn’t have music on the course. If they did, it could have been bagpipes and it’s probably why music on the golf course was banned until the age of the transistor.
  4. Happy Birthday @Wakit300, @Crossroads Golf, @11Scooby71, and @JRDuck40!! Best wishes for a great day!!
  5. LOL. It looks like spring outside, but I’m sick and tired of the wind. Good Morning everyone!! Hope you have a terrific Tuesday! My wife and I and her BIL tried to play golf yesterday. Too much wind and cold for him, and I wasn’t enjoying it much either, so we quit on #7 and went to have a drink. Today is sunny again and the wind is still blowing; it’s less at my house as the hill and other houses block the prevailing wind, so I think I will do some spring yard work. @berkeleybob Sad. Hope your wife’s pain doesn’t last very long. Joint pain is no fun. I don’t think mine is ever going away, but I’m sure it’s mild compared to hers. @russtopherb Be Careful out there!!!
  6. Nice pics!! We were not in the path of the eclipse; just a very little bit of dimming. My wife and I were on the golf course; sun was shining bright, not a cloud ion the sky. Suddenly the sunlight dimmed for just a second. My wife said was that the eclipse? Looked up… two geese flew overhead.
  7. I seem to remember a thread many years ago about members designing a MGS course somewhere. Holes were depicted. Maybe it’s just my old memory playing tricks on me.
  8. Good Morning everyone!! Manic Monday! Some good golf this weekend; a well-played Texas Open by Bhatia and fantastic finish by McCarthy, albeit a disappointing playoff. Nellie winning 4 tournaments in a row… WOW! Kenny B breaking 80!! Off to play again in a couple of hours; beautiful day as the sun is coming up. Might have to wear shorts!! For those working… make us proud! For those playing… make it fun!
  9. Get it under control now. It gets worse when you are older. I used to test my blood sugar every day until I finally got off metformin through diet changes and exercise; I still test it occasionally, but my doc says my A1C is reasonable for my age. Could be lower, but he said older people should get it too low… risk of falling.
  10. If he came from PGA West, he was probably the “Cart Guy”. I guess I can’t complain about our grounds crew anymore. Austin doesn’t have anything “weird” on Portland. How about a Darth Vader unicyclist blowing flames out of a set of bagpipes?
  11. Well, I made it though the round today. Chilly at 8am, but warmed up to where I had to peel layers. Still windy though! Managed a 41/38 for 79 with a double on that #5 hole; the wind kills me on that hole. Made a birdie on the par 5 #13 hole that runs the same direction, but it’s shorter. Poor ball striking day; only 4 GIR so only being +7 isn’t too bad. My short game saved a lot of pars… even had two sand saves.
  12. So, who got to see the playoff?? NBC cut to their scheduled informercial at the end of the 18th hole, and Golf Channel was showing the KFT playoff, then cut to the Ladies Match Play. Fantastic finish by McCarthy birdying the last 7 holes to tie Bhatia; great playing by Bhatia all week and nice win!
  13. Well, it will be fun at Kingsmill. You’ll get a kick out of Martha. Gibberish doesn’t come out, but sometimes... “You see, you have an inside voice and an outside voice, and sometimes your inside voice gets outside.”
  14. Shot 79 with a double on the par 5 #5 hole… Hey! That’s better than the triple I took on that hole yesterday. Wind was a little less today; maybe 15-20 mph dead into it. A 41/38 round but not a good ball striking day; only hit 4 GIR so +7 is not too bad. Had one birdie on the par 5 #13 hole. Lots of par saves with two of them being sand saves. Getting used to the Dan Grieve "3 Releases" and it’s paying off using my 54º. Used it a lot today where I have always used my 60º in the past. BIL arrived today, so we will be playing again tomorrow; third round in a row and I’m dragging!!
  15. Welcome Dave! Glad you joined us! Getting a lot of new members from N. Seattle area.
  16. Good Morning everyone!! Well, yesterdays round was a chore. Temps in the 40’s with wind 15-30 mph; I was back wearing 4 layers. At least the sun was out!! Shot another 81… seem to stuck on low 80’s. Started out with a 44 on the front nine with a TRIPLE on the par 5 #5… straight into the wind; 4 shots to get to the green… well actually the 4th shot went over the green and down the slope 10 feet below the green surface. Better on the back nine when it warmed up a little; shot 37. Today we get to do it again… same conditions; maybe a little less wind. The good news is that a warming trend is coming with temps in the 70’s. Looking forward to playing again in shirt sleeves!! BIL is coming today from Seattle and we are playing tomorrow as well. Have a great Sunday and hope it involves golf!!
  17. Congrats Jason on #7000!! Been with ya the whole time and looking to finally meet up for real next month!! Keep ‘em coming.
  18. So that’s what it is. I thought it was a cigarette hanging out… I need a new computer!! This screen is 10 years old!!
  19. We are headed there late summer, but you will already be gone by then?
  20. I had migraines for 54 years; no drugs then. On a business trip when I was 58 I got one, but that was the last one I’ve had. Migraine-free for 19 years!! Guess I outgrew them, or traded them in for forgetfulness.
  21. Happy Birthday @hckymeyer, @Duffer7, and @Eric Jansen!! Have a super Sunday birthday!
  22. Happy Birthday @Luisddavila!! Have a great day… I sent you one foot wedge; use it wisely!
  23. Good Morning everyone!! 47º and feels like 39º. Not my favorite golf weather, but apparently we have a tee time at 9am… guess I'll suck it up. It’s likely better than many of you back east, but with age comes wimpiness. Mowed the lawn yesterday afternoon because I didn’t think I would feel like it today; probably a good idea. My doc adjusted my BP meds yesterday trying to get it down to a reasonable level. Will see how that goes when I get home from our round. Have a great day and hopefully you can get out on the course.
  24. I agree Rev. Hitting irons high is a gift that I don’t have. Playing in a lot of wind, I tried not to hit high shots when I was learning this game. I actually like lower shots, but I wish I could generate the speed to produce a high shot when I need it. Most players do not know how to flight their short irons; it’s a skill that is needed. On original topic… reshafting irons is definitely worth it. @Siilky A fitter will assess what you have and determine which shaft will work the best for your swing. Maybe you only need to replace half your set; maybe you need them all replaced with a new shaft. Let the fitter decide. With increased age came the inability to swing heavier steel shafts. I tried graphite shafts, but have always preferred the feel of steel. I love my MacGregor VIP 1025M irons but the DG S300 shafts were way too heavy and I put them in the garage. A few years ago I decided to reshaft them with Nippon N.S. Pro Zelos 8 steel shafts weighing 84g. Love them now! I did the work myself and the swing weights are C9-D0 with my current midsize grip.
