  1. Niiccce .. congrats!! I think you'll find it's $$ well spent, plus the setting to change green speed is a great feature (fyi.. I think mentioned in one of my review stages, but I found "9" to be alike to some of my local munis and "10" more alike to a faster country club green ... but, obviously, experiment and see what works for you!)
  2. Hah! ..so speaking of tee shots... Played 18 yesterday, from the front tees with my wife, and (still!!) put myself into varying degrees of trouble on most of the Par 4s and 5s. Had a bad case of the lefts (RH'ed) .. which was kinda interesting .. as up to now my golfing experience has mostly been right misses off the tee. Yet somehow only had one ball go really waaaay left and OB. So had a bunch of punch-outs for my second shots... And then somehow... seemed to get the tee troubles under control the last three holes with solid tee shots, if just a little left of my intended line. Irons - thanks to recent lessons - were mostly pretty good! A few chunks and thins but over the round was able to hit a bunch close to what I wanted .. yea! Short game was mostly pretty good, too - yeah a few, but very few, sloppy mistakes (including the one bunker I dropped myself into) / dropped shots. Have to brag but on #18 Par 5 - good round, bad round I try to "finish in style" - I had a really solid tee shot .. launched straight and flew far .. hit a solid second into a good position .. and nailed the approach dropping the ball right where I was looking on the green! Don't worry, tho, I quickly got my comeuppance - I converted (ha ha) that outside birdie chance 1-putt into a 3-putt bogey ... first putt was maybe 20 feet and I hit it just as intended, line and speed, only to watch it break uphill?!? by the hole ... where I then proceeded to miss the 2 footer... So overall round actually went reasonably well, one of my better 18 hole rounds of 93 (36 putts) - and that was with 5 (count 'em: FIVE) doubles and one triple - so making progress and have plenty of room to improve
  3. Nah. Me, I get a little thrill inside trying to guess the direction of every tee shot...
  4. Played a fun Par 3 yesterday afternoon - holes range from 85 to 160 yds and several are tight with trees lining both sides and overhanging branches. Been taking a series of lessons .. with the recent focus on my iron swing .. and am very (very!) happy to say some of the good stuff is actually starting to sink in!! Hit 5 / 9 greens (PB) - was almost 6, ball was on the left-front fringe near the pin - with pretty good (for me) distance and direction control. Was +2 going into the last hole with 1 birdie, 4 pars, 3 bogeys - and one of the bogeys was a 3-putt after hitting the (130 yd) green! The first putt was right online and headed down the slightest downslope toward the hole when it just took off..?!? Ran waaaay past the hole... Second putt was also right online and the right distance, too, but .. did not take the break on that same slight slope that "should have" (quote-unquote) pushed it towards the hole... Sheesh silly putting! Another bogey was a bad tee shot followed by a good pitch uphill, so a bit of a blind shot, but hit it a little low and it just ran through the green ... but: almost chipped in the next one! It took the slightest right turn just in front of the hole and finished only 3" past. Third bogey was just two sloppy shots in a row. So .. #9. Solid tee shot and just the right distance (120 yds downhill), too, and only a few yards left of the small green ... but the ball hit something on the ground and took a big bounce and disappeared down the hill behind the hole... Dropped a ball and proceeded to fluff and duff two chips and hack the first putt for a nice double-par triple! Anyway, we'll get 'em next time, right? But like I said, very happy with the improvement with the irons (and please pleeease pleeeeeeeeze let's hope it "sticks"!!)
  5. Good luck with them! I recently switched to 0211s when I saw the Summer sale - no fitting, just an impulsive club ho splurge Got them with the stock graphite Mitsubishi MMT shafts .. which seem to suit me pretty well .. and so far I am really liking these clubs
  6. Hah that's why a lot of us are on here! Plus... there's a thread for that: https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/13231-what-have-you-bought-lately-cha-club-hos-anonymous/
  7. OK.. in honor of #TBT here are actual screenshots - from today, a Thursday - from another online forum... ..and.. Ya just can't make this stuff up!
  8. Hey, it's at Crab Meadow in Northport. Plz note, tho, the view is the best part - there are not a whole lot of hitting bays, the back fence is only about 225 out (but plenty for me) and the range balls are really super crappy .. a few decent practice balls and an occasional gamer someone discarded but mostly ooooold and beat... But lemme know if you go there!
  9. Was thinking of playing 9 this afternoon .. hoping the Summer crush was starting to wane .. but got to the course and it was jam-packed!! And.. no one on the practice green so spent some time there with two balls focusing on distance control; eg. hit one to a target spot and try to put the second right next to it. Things were going ok until two groups rushed in putting and chipping balls all over the place before their tee times, so I decided to go over to the next nearby course to see if there was an open spot on the range (has been regularly filled up). Turns out there was - and a spot at the upwind end, too - so parked, grabbed my bag and walk up .. head over towards the shop window to pay for a bucket only to find ... somewhere along the line I dropped a $100 bill... ... (Yeah I know .. who the heck does that other than Al Czervik??!!??) Looked all around on the ground - maybe I dropped it when I pulled my mask out of my pocket? - while telling myself, "..this is gonna be the most expensive *NON*-range session ever!" Don't see anything anywhere so grab my bag and walk back to the car feeling stoopit .. I either dropped it in the lot and someone's found it by now, or I dropped it back at the first course and it's long gone. Look around and under the car, and ... yep there it is ... WHEW!!! Crumple it up and cram it deep down in my pocket and head back up to the range... .. Where I actually had a pretty decent session working on all the new things from my past few lessons, including - better stance and posture at address, better takeaway, better body movement / lateral weight shift in transition, better path into contact ... you know: just a few simple basics Been working on the irons a lot lately, and I think I'm starting to feel where my new left miss is coming from. And still a lot more work to do but hit some solid shots and am making progress. Here's a shot of that range, looking North towards Long Island Sound (zoom in on the top and you'll see some blue out there)... That black apron in front of the hitting area? That's the roof of the cart garage!
  10. Sounds good, thx! Hope it works out for you I'd actually started with a free evaluation that I happened to see last Fall .. not sure if it's a regular promo they run every year, tho.
  11. Yes - you can buy (just) practice time! They'll .. of course .. try to upsell you into a package but _I think_ there are practice time only plans -- check their website. FYI .. each bay has a push-button panel on the floor that you can activate with the handle end of your club to access video functions and LM output. .... Shameless plug - if you do decide to sign up, consider using my referral link (bottom of 1st post, Pg 1) and we'll both get $100 credit
  12. Have you looked at AimPoint Express? Might be something you could be interested in...
  13. That was one of my comments, too - in Practice mode it would be nice to be able to "tilt" the practice green in +/-1° increments left, right, up, down to work on those .. especially sidehill breakers for me! Maybe they'll look at our suggestions and add some new features into future versions..?
  14. Played an Exec 9 hole over the weekend. It's a short, and mostly pretty tight, course and the very contoured greens more than make up for the lack of length. It's great iron practice with 5 Par 3s from 100 to about 160, and then 4 short Par 4s where I tee'ed off with a hybrid. Was hitting the ball mostly ok .. starting to hit it more solidly more often .. but now am starting to miss some to the left..? And, yes, still had a few of my more typical miss of a push/push-fade. Have another lesson coming up so have to ask about that! Putting was way waaaay off, though - these greens were faster than what I've been playing on recently and my speed / distance control was way off ... ergo lots of 3 putts...
  15. ok only cuz I saw the headline but one more post about pizza... "Connecticut Pizza Again Named No. 1 In Nation" https://patch.com/connecticut/across-ct/hail-king-connecticut-pizza-again-named-no-1-nation
  16. Ha ha was gonna say something very similar.... DON'T over think it, dude! (Like the pizza crust is simply a "vehicle" / conveyance for the toppings .... guys will never _understand_ women...) (..or at least that was my takeaway)
  17. Yeah the deck did look nice but by the time we were done we both just wanted to "get the puck outta there!" Played Mill Pond once - nice course - though for some unknown reason after a really good tee shot one of the guys behind us decided to drive over onto our fairway looking for extra balls .. and picked up mine! Yeah tried yelling really loudly but he just went about his, uhh, business.... Maybe @Chip Strokes and I should meet up there . Have also played Island's End out by Greenport - that's a nice course, with several challenging holes, and people seem to respect your safety and your (ha ha) balls. Have not tried Cherry Creek or The Links (next door) but have heard they're fun and are on my "wanna visit" list. Yeah, all the courses around me were solidly booked up ALL Summer ... there were occasional end of day times or you could reserve / pre-pay up to two weeks ahead to get a time! We ended up driving around to different places - and so our "adventure" at Stonebridge!
  18. Ha funny coincidence - it was Stonebridge!! Are you on LI? We should meet up sometime! I'll PM you...
  19. Played 18 at a new to us course over the holiday weekend, and while it was a nice course to play and challenging .. 70.2 / 133 / close to 6100 yds .. so tougher and longer than what we usually play .. we won't be back when it's busy and fully booked.... Yeah play was extra slow, but.... I've *never* never heard "FORE!" yelled soooo many times on a golf course before!!! It was constant, no kidding and not just at us it was all over the course ... and constantly unnerving as I had to keep looking over at my wife and reminding her to duck and cover her head (she has a tendency to look in the direction of the person yelling "Fore!"). The layout was perfect for RHed slicers to bomb into way too closely adjoining fairways or tees - literally at least three, maybe four, times we had a ball land way too close to us or right over our heads; and on a few other fairways we walked past several random balls laying about..?!?! So, no, I didn't play all that well - despite making a few good tee and approach shots, I still had too many silly mistakes that yielded me too many doubles and triples.... Maybe next time.
  20. My suggestion - not being facetious, being serious - is to consider searching for a new instructor. If you've read through the other posts in this thread, the underlying unanimity is there MUST BE really good two-way communication / understanding between the instructor and the pupil. And it kinda sounds to me like this instructor was presenting way too many technical details, too early on .. without gauging your level of receptivity...
  21. That was the one at Smithtown Landing (it's kind of "inside" the main course). I also go to Heartland once in a while - that's a fun and challenging Par 3; and once or twice a season to the 18-Hole Par 3 at Robert Moses - shorter holes / wedges only but great target practice!
  22. Played in a similar format charity outing in previous seasons .. one year our team won the "Most Honest" award (..ie. we were high score / DL but we each got a box of a dozen new golf balls )
