  1. Big time win for the US. Let's go. 19.5 - 10.5. Sorry Internationals, but you've got some work to do
  2. Good point - my miss does tend to be low or a bit off heel which is a big spin machine when that happens.
  3. You are absolutely right. With Taylormade I am usually that way. I can get my spin down and hit some huge numbers on distance, but have no clue where it's going. Truthfully, I'm still that way depending on the round. Usually it's the foul balls off the tee that cost me strokes, everything else is usually fairly solid. I am the same way. I would quickly average 280 off the tee if I knew if was a shot I could rely on and keep in play.
  4. It's been a slow year for the golf game. Have just been tied up with other activities and do not have the same "want" this year for whatever reason. However, I did play in an outing recently. Expectations were low as I hadn't played a full round in about 5 weeks or really picked up a club. Surprisingly I did not have any mishits - scratch that I did have a thin one with my hybrid. Driver was really good. Pretty good distance and accuracy all day. Approach shots caught the green for the most part, but I was certainly not pin seeking. I think I had two shots under 100 yards within 10 feet and one from 125 where I was about 12 feet. Everything else 35/40 feet on average or missed a couple greens. Keep in mind we were playing from white tees so I did not have that far on approaches. Only had to chip twice on a couple par 5's. Both were great and gave us tap in birdies. Putter - different story - did not help my team all day. Could not start my ball on line to save my life. A couple decent putts, but probably only 3 that had a chance to go in. Fun day out with great weather. Happy with my play, just wish putter could have been a bit better. Team was -9. Winners were -12.
  5. This is one where I'm sure the aerial shot does not do it justice. On here it looks straightforward unless there is heather or something like that. I'm hitting driver with a full swing and not trying to aim it. I don't mind fairway bunkers unless obviously I'm up against a lip. If I'm in the rough, it would be tougher to get the ball close, but should be able to get it up near the green for a chip. Back left looks like a good spot to chip from in most cases, but would do my best not to short side myself. Hopefully then make a putt for par or at worst get out of the #1 hcp hole with a bogey.
  6. I've had a Ventus Blue TR with no issues. Before that the standard Ventus Blue Velocore with no issues. Hope I'm not setting myself for an issue now that I've put this out there. The original Ventus Black Velocore was actually the club I was fit into a couple years ago. The Blue has been pretty good for me, but I'm wondering if I could see lower spin with something not too stiff from the black. I also need something that isn't incredibly low launching so that and the stiffness were the reasons I decided blue.
  7. I'm excited to try these out in a couple months at my club champion fitting. The only thing I'm nervous about is that I get so honed in on "Trackman Swings" that it doesn't tell me the whole story about a fitting. On course I am much more neutral club path delivery, but on trackman, I adjust too much usually to get a few degrees up on path and that takes my spin way down as well. That is why I actually have my driver set to 11* for the launch, but I also still have issue of heavy spin - usually mid 3000's. I have a fairly low spinning shaft in the Ventus Blue TR. I'm there there are some better set ups for me so I just need to be as mindful as possible to make my golf course swings. I actually played in an outing recently and they also had a trackman to the hole for long and straightest drive. This really helped as it was the last hole for me that we came to this and I was hitting driver well all day. I used the same swings and saw similar flights to what I had done all day. Verdict was about as expected. 305 total with 3400 spin on the first, 312 total with 3250 spin on the second. Did not win, as the winner was 328, but was much better on a golf hole and trying to hit a fairway.
  8. For the past month or so, I've started to play more tennis. I did not realize how much I missed the sport and being out there. Since having kids, I really put it on the back burner and have hardly played in the past 8 years. The only downfall is that I have not been playing any golf lately. Only so much time. Also, a couple takeaways: 1. My racket is about 12 years old, so I decided to demo a couple rackets. I was not ready for the prices of rackets these days. Some are as much as $279 new. Used to be in the $160 range, but I should not have really been surprised based on price increases on everything else. 2. Just how much better on my elbow, shoulder and wrists the newer rackets are. With the demo's, I had a little to no soreness after playing. Then I went back to my racket for a session and I was hurting the next two days. I did not find a clear winner for new racket, but rather 3 that I thoroughly enjoyed and I was able to find two of those (Head Gravity Pro) on eBay for a great deal so that always makes me happy too! Hopefully they come in decent shape, it was hard to tell exactly how many scratches and scuffs from the pictures. Definitely a few, but that doesn't really bother me as long as the racket still plays fine.
  9. Love the zip hoodie. That's the same polo I got in Kiawah when I played. Really good looking! Unfortunately, Peter Millar does not fit me great so I don't think I'll ever wear it.
  10. COBRA! - Just amazing support and opportunities to the MGS folks here throughout the years - thanks for this chance. So I might be off here, but checking the site, it looked like I had to go to custom for chance at Left Handed configuration. I could be doing something wrong and that wouldn't surprise me. I chose the Forged Tec as I like the smaller off set as well as the thinner top line. I don't need much help with distance, which the X would add just a hair more.
  11. I pushed back a fitting I had scheduled to October in hopes these would be available by then. Believe they've already had two wins with JT Poston and Cam Smith already having put them in the bag. Not bad...
  12. This game will take you down a few notches quick. Went from what was one of my best rounds off the tee with 9 fairways hit to one of my absolute worst. 5 double bogeys, all from foul balls with the driver off the tee just killed me. Also three more that were terrible as well, but I had room so I was still able to have a shot. My big miss is usually a slice with driver. However, on my first drive I hit a pull hook so I had that in my head the rest of the day. Then on my third shot, i play a pull draw. Not terrible, but aimed down the right (I'm a lefty) so there was not enough room when I drew it more. After that everything else was big fades/slices and really killed me. I only have the issue with driver, irons and hybrids were straight balls to slight draws. Just have to get this thing in check. I think my old habit of coming too far over the top with a shut/open face is sneaking back with driver. May have to get a lesson to work on driver and get in check. Score: 81 Fairways: 2 (both with 4 iron) Greens: 6 (Ouch) Putts: 29 (One of my best putting rounds, everything had a chance to go in just about)
  13. I've been contemplating a TSI3 for a while now. Guessing these will have a few tweaks. Likely going to put this in the bag if it performs well. I have a Club Champion fitting in August so I'm hoping they are available by that time.
  14. You spend more time than you care to put out there in the ether on the most wanted lists and then comparing them to previous years most wanted lists, and then diving into the swing speed parts just to really hone in "what equipment you are thinking about".....
  15. I'm in the same boat. I feel like most of the other elements of my game are helping. I have been looking at max game improvement drivers so that I can keep it closer to the fairway. I don't care if I lose some distance.
  16. Played this past Friday. Still apparent that I need a lot of work of my driver. It simply cost me too many strokes and I'm scrambling for bogey quickly. Also, chipping could use some work, not awful, but not doing me any favors either. Not too worried about that one, I just need to have some greenside practice, which I have not done at all this year. Score - 79 Fairways - 2 (both were not with driver, Ouch!) Greens - 10 Putts 33
  17. Went to a Titleist fitting at a local club the other day. Already having the SM8 wedges and the T100S, I wanted to hone in on both of these to find out which wedge grind/bounce options and gapping would be best. For my T100S, I wanted to verify the shafts were correct. Some interesting things came out. When I had first bought the SM8, I did so based on the online fitting from Titleist and came away with the D grind for my 54*. It took me a little to get used to it, but I've been happy with the wedge over the years. I came away with similar results this time around, but was interesting was when I switched from wedge to wedge and you can really see the results change. Not only on ball flight - the D was much more of a piercing trajectory - but also from the turf interaction and just how much of a difference it truly was. I let him know about a large gap in my club makeup. My 54* on a comfortable less than 100% swing can max at 108. While my gap wedge (T100S) can go 128/130 comfortably. He suggested, rather than taking off loft to add a 52* which I was hitting right at 118 and felt great. The only problem with that is figuring out what I'd have to take out of my bag. That would be PW, Strong GW, GW, SW, and LW. 5 wedges. Next for the irons. I tried several different shaft options and let my fitter know that I had been playing fairly well with them, but suffering more from a draw when I previously played a more straight ball to slight fade with Mizunos. We found from Trackman that my delivery was around a couple degrees too upright. This being from Titleist standard sets being around a degree and a half more upright than Mizunos as standard lie angle. On top of that, I had them bent more upright based on historical fittings, but most of that was done by lie board (which I know how many of you feel on this). The nice thing was that we settled on the same shaft I currently have as the best for launch, spin, etc... He then set me in a demo T100S set to 2* flat and automatically the large draw was taken out. When I felt like it was a big pull/hook I'd look up only to see it 10/12 yards to the right, which would still be very playable. Looking back, I wish I would made a better effort to get to the range a bit before this Titleist session. I have been lifting weights a lot more lately so I was pretty stiff and probably had one of my worst contact days of the past few years. However, I had a local club adjust my clubs and went to the range the following two days. Confidence was really coming back and I was striking the clubs very solid with a much straighter ball flight. The ball was only moving a few yards one direction or the other and I'm excited to get out to play.
  18. I think that would just follow the Mizuno JPX release cycle. On a similar note Titleist should have updated Driver and woods this fall as well.
  19. Agree, and yes they do usually do it in one session. A friend of mine was able to break it up into two different sessions. I did one a few years ago and the fitter definitely spent most time on driver/irons with me. Wedges we didn't even really get to and the putter was an after thought. Some positives and negatives about it for sure.
  20. I got the email from Club Champion about their 100th store and were offering a full bag fitting at $100. Deal was just too good to pass up so I set it for August. Also, there is a Titleist fitting at a local course in a couple weeks and I hope to get dialed into the new SM9 wedges. Thinking about replacing my 54 and 58 with them.
  21. I really like the G/Fore's as well. I ended up letting a pair go and regret it. I miss that insole!
  22. The Proforce v2 was a really nice shaft for me. Also since I've used ventus over the past 2 and half years it definitely seems to help limit the large misses.
  23. Maybe I'm harsh, but I have only had a couple caddie rounds that I would say I was truly glad they were there. By far the best experience was at Bandon as well. Our guy was just top notch. Learned our bags and distances very quickly. Did not step on any toes and had a couple great stories. I do know my game fairly well, but enjoy to talk through shots and what type of strategy would be best. Other caddies have been fairly quiet and tend to just walk ahead of the group. I was looking forward to our caddies at the Ocean Course a month ago, but they were a bit lackluster as well. I thought with the PGA just recently there, they would have a few cool stories, but mostly talked to each other instead of the people in my group.
  24. Played with a couple customers last Thursday on a beautiful day in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Game was certainly not firing on all cylinders and the greens had just recently been punched. But I was happy to still break 80 with mediocre stuff. Takeaways: Wedges need some work. I know I'm not going to throw darts to every pin, but quite a few opportunities where I should have given myself a little closer opportunity. It especially was apparent with the greens being punched, so more putts than normal. Driver was pretty good - shorter course so I only hit it about 4 times. Was happy with Ball striking and seems to get a little bit better as I am getting more reps this year. Hope everyone else plays well and has some nice weather this week.
