  1. Since I keep my fingernails short, I use my box cutter to peel back the tape. If Im off my game on a particular day, I will cut the corner Im peeling at a 45 degrees angle with scissors to make the area Im picking at a bit stiffer. You can always start the peel before you put it on the shaft.
  2. The last fews years I've played GP Tour Wraps. Lower end of price point, tacky with a quick swipe of a moist towel, and easy on my hands. A couple months ago I put on some GP Tour Velvets and can't wait to pull them off and just eat the cost. Not that they are bad grips, just not the grip for me. Back to the Tour Wraps.
  3. Been working hard on swing change and grinding out 2 large buckets 4-5 times a week with probably 80% of those balls with some drill using sticks or just sticks as aiming aids. The other 20% of the balls are picking different targets to hit at with some sort of game with my buddies. We usually end the session this way. Since I've been working on swing, that means the putter has been neglected. 2 nights ago I went to the practice green for chips, pitches, and putting. All in all it went okay considering I think I've putted or chipped only once since late last August. The putting struggle I have is that it is hard to practice as I putt more Nicklaus style hunched over and that makes it hard to practice because of my back. I've tried to go more upright but I putt horribly that way.
  4. I prefer to use a dry erase Expo marker if you have one.
  5. I hit the Mizuno Pro Fli Hi today at the Portland Golf Show. Definitely the best club in that category and Ive ever hit and I think it needs to he in my bag. The issue is finding room in my bag as I hate to give up my beloved 5w. Losing a wedge isnt an option either.
  6. Busting my butt hitting balls and doing a variety of drills to correct years of a bad swing. Diidnt touch a club for a little over 4 months to let my body heal from a wrist injury and fractured ribs. Finally feeling a change but have good sessions and bad sessions. Tonights was good and really for the first time for a bit of control swing out instead of over the top and out. I will say Ive gained distance for sure and I love that. Still got a ways to go but feeling encouraged.
  7. A buddy I do a lot of club work asked me the other night what are my favorite and least favorite work to do on clubs. Since I've only been doing this for 3-4 years, my experiences are still somewhat limited. A shop I did PT work for during the 1st year of Covid saw a TON of new golfers which meant a ton of old clubs coming in the shop wanting new grips. Many of these grips were 20 or more years old. Sone crumbled apart when pulled and some were a gooey stick mess. Of course many of them had multiple layers of tape which made it more of a mess and time consuming. By far my least favorite thus far. My favorite has to be when someone brings me in a full set of irons for shaft or head replacements. Kind of my zone to bump some music and get at it. Love the look of a customer getting some "new toys" when Im done. Whats your favorite and least favorite?
  8. Working hard on my steep over the top swing after a long lay off. Progress is slow but its progress and starting to see some positive change. Lots of alignment stick drills to force the change.
  9. Buddy lives in Camas area so I head up on an occasion to play Camas Meadows. Nice place to play.
  10. For me it was more focused practice instead of just hitting balls and hoping something clicks as well as playing proper length and flex of shafts which tightened my shot dispersion immensely. Also, I went from a cheap ordinary unbalanced putter to something that I actually liked and my 3 putts dropped in a huge fashion. Find a way to make par and avoid the big scores.
  11. Nothing particular. Just the build in general as Ive done nothing with bore thrus.
  12. Snow and ice the last few days here in the Willamette Valley Enough to close range down and enough to get mandated for OT everyday as people call in.
  13. Hadnt really touched my clubs since last September minus changing out shafts, grips, and swingweight adjustments. Hot balls to days ago to loosen up a bit and hit balls tonight doing a takeaway drill. Since its Oregon, I am rusty!
  14. I have a 30" belt sander and Im just not good enough to turn on it. Speed is too high.
  15. I use Grail Golf for most of my ferrules and get the dameter as close to hosel diameter as possible to avoid too much sanding. They cost a little more but worth it as it saves time when doing manually. Ferrule $$$ add up quickly. When I first started out I bought a few clubs from Goodwill to play with. Enjoy.
  16. Whats everybody working on? I just finished pulling some C Tapers out of a buddies older Adams and installed them in a buddies 919 Tours along with swingweight adjustment and new grips. I then took the TT DG 120s I pulled and replaced my KBS Tours in my 919s along with swingweight adjustment and new grips. Regripped the rest of my clubs as well as lengthened a couple Vokey SM8s I bought a few months ago. Hadnt touched the build/ repair end much and it felt good getting back at it.
  17. I live just 3.5 hours from Bandon but still an option if I want to gamble on weather and tee times.
  18. Thanks for the thoughts. I guess for me $150 or less would be my goal for golf. The possibility of rain, the travel time, and the lack of options that fit my schedule to Orlando from PDX are really not the best. Rental car prices are crazy high with Orlando being the lowest from places (SD, Austin, Vegas, PHX, Tuscson, and PS) Ive researched. Green fees seem the highest in Palm Springs, but after some digging around I actually found some reasonable travel, flight, and car packages. I will just deal with the green fees and enjoy my time. The back drop in Palm Springs really looks amazing and I will get more golf in than traveling east.
  19. Got a week off mid Feb. Researching a golf trip to either Orlando, SD, or Palm Springs. Looks like the warmer weather is Orlando but does anybody have an idea which area is more affordable considering its high season? Digging around at all the courses is ming boggling, especially Orlando. Thoughts?
  20. Ive been at Pebble/Monterey a couple times in late December and it was sunny and low 60s Id guess. Lots of peeps out playing
  21. My daughter is coming home from college for the day and neither one if us are turkey eaters so its rib-eyes and the rest of the traditional Thanksgiving food.
  22. I might pay 2 bills to play a course with the exception of Pebble, and that's only because Pebble holds a special place for me in golf history. Whistling Straits is one that catches my eye and I might play it one day, but I only that as I have no idea how much $$$ it is . I cringe a $100 with cart to be honest out here in Oregon
  23. Finding time for meaningful practice in all areas of the game.
