Played 18 yesterday and ended up with 52% battery life. So after several rounds, I'm averaging between 47% and 52% remaining after 18.

Mine has pretty much been flawless since the last firmware update (.13). I do play with it unlocked, do NOT use scoring, nor the Pin Collect reminder. I also use manual putting. I have done an occasional "hard reset" (not the "factory reset") between some rounds, but I just have to remember to check all the settings to make sure they are set to all my preferences.

I swear that I've performed a factory reset before, but as an experiment I did it again (had to reinstall firmware updates and everything), set up my X5 to PhilM75072's suggestions, and played 18 yesterday. BIG difference! No shots were missed. I also never detected any time that the X5 seemed lost on a green. Rather than take time working through screens to add penalty strokes (yes, I had 2.... get over it!!! 😀) I added them post round, but that was the only edit needed. A few of us play an early 9 before the league 9 so I sync that round immediately after, and then sync the league 9 once completed. After all that, battery life was at 51%... the best it's been by at least 15%! We did get through both 9s quicker than normal, about 4-1/4 hours vs. 5-1/4, so I'm reserving final judgement until I get another round or two in, but it seems to be much better battery life as well as solid tracking.

The one anomaly I had involved starting up tracking for the 2nd nine. The 1st nine started up quickly without incident. But the 2nd nine wouldn't work correctly. It initially found the course, then immediately reverted back to the clock face. Then it took about 3 or 4 minutes of searching before it finally found the course again. Everything worked fine from there.

I'm playing 18 tomorrow at a different course and I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Played a round yesterday and when I finished, the battery on the X5 was still at 67%.  I don't think anything's changed recently but it was good to see.  Cautiously optimistic, but it feels like things are trending in the right direction after a rocky start.

Whoa! I don't think my battery life is that good when only using it as a watch for 4 or 5 hours. Seriously! Since I messed up and gave away my V3, I'll factory reset my X5, set my options on those suggested by PhilM75072 and give it a try today.

I have been using pretty much the opposite settings. I'll give them a try and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

....It's been a few weeks since I checked the firmware version, but I'm willing to bet my fellow V3 user hasn't checked his firmware version since he first put it on....

So... it turns out that I was a bit overly optimistic about the X5 several weeks ago. I was so pleased at the time that I gave away my V3. It took me about a half hour of searching around the house before it dawned on me; CRS disease at its best!!! 😵‍💫

I still have the H4 so I'll put that into play to see if any of the same issues crop up.

I do that with a 3rd party app on courses I'm not familiar with, such as the Tag Heuer or Precision Pro apps, while using the Shot scope watch for shot tracking and data collection.

Well... you are a substantially better golfer than I am but that seems like a lot of devices to deal with while playing. I also seem to remember that you play really quick rounds so it isn't like you're taking a lot of time with them.  I consider myself, as does my family, a bit of techno nerd... at least for a guy of my generation 🧑‍🦽. So maybe I just need to stop complaining about the lack of perfection and learn to work more efficiently with what's available.

I for one will be interested to see if you get any better performance with the V3.   Using the V3, I've had multiple instances also where it moved onto the next hole before finishing on the green, if it even switched to that function at all, where I couldn't record any putts.   I've just been correcting/ adding them during editing post round.

CRAAAAAPP! Maybe it was my selective memory, but I don't remember having that issue when I used the V3 last year. I did communicate with Shot Scope Support and they said that trees can cause the issue. I guess it loses the GPS signal and doesn't know exactly where it is at times. The course where I had the problem and routinely play is heavily wooded. Out of curiosity, is the course you had the issue wooded as well? Thanks

Played 18 yesterday - no issues at all with the X5. Had about 52% remaining after about 5 hours as I turned it on well before the round.

I don't know whether one's own geo location makes a difference in battery life, but I don't come close to that kind of life after 18 holes here in mid-Michigan (Tawas area) where I spend much of the summer. Yesterday I turned on my fully charged X5 as I got out of the car at the course. I had about 40 minutes before my tee time, so I waited until 5 mins before to start tracking. That part works flawlessly, BTW. I'd be surprised if it takes longer than a minute to find the course and start tracking. We had regular league play on the front 9, and a scramble on the back. So I ended the round at 9 holes, synced it with the app (to be sure to keep everything separate), and restarted the GPS only function on the back. All together it was in play mode for about 5-1/2 hours plus another hour of watch only mode; the battery was at 36%.

I'm also still having issues with the X5 moving onto the next hole while I'm still on the putting green, prior to entering putts (manual) and confirming score. That happened twice on the front side. It's a PITA to scroll through the menu to get back to the missed hole and correct it. I use the locked mode so it shouldn't from be accidental touches.

I'll be home this weekend and plan on grabbing my V3 to use for a while; my X5 just takes too much fussing around with to use. The more attractive watch and enhanced graphics just isn't worth the poor functionality. I'll go back to it after the next firmware update, but right now I have to admit that regret buying the X5. In MY experience, it isn't coming close to the performance and functionality they advertise.

  8. My comments aren't going to provide any greater insight for you than what's already been said, but here they are anyway 😀. My Arccos experience dates back to just before it became a subscription only model. I was already frustrated with the number of missed shots that I thought/think was the result of how the sensors were powered, at least at the time. I play a lot of early morning golf and they just did not perform reliably vs later in the day (powered by sunlight??). When it became a subscription only model, I dropped them.

I first bought the Shot Scope V2 watch and was much happier even though it also missed shots, but at least you didn't have to pay an additional yearly fee for the privilege of editing your round. The V3 model was a definite improvement although not perfect either. Because of my own quirks (I like/need to swing a club frequently between actual shots to keep loose), I wanted to find a quick/convenient way to stop the watch from detecting the club I'm swinging so it doesn't think I'm hitting the ball until I'm actually at the ball. Oddly enough, I found the V3's, 3 second pause function irritatingly long and distracting when finally walking up to the ball for the actual shot.

The H4 model seemed like the perfect solution. All the functionality of the V3 with the need to actually tap the club sensor to the H4 face to register it. That completely solved my club tag registration issues. However (you knew a "however" was coming, didn't you?), the device is designed to be worn in a holder on your belt and even though the magnet is quite strong, I nearly lost it twice when my shirt was partially caught in-between. I switched to putting it in my pocket, but I found tagging it was more difficult and I was constantly fussing around with it to be sure it registered.

When the X5 $100 discounted pre-order for current users came out, I jumped at it. Reading the promo details made you think all the functional issues were resolved AND it was a much more attractive watch that capable of being your daily watch. Not so much. As others have already said, they've really dropped the ball on its release. Some seem to get pretty decent-to-good battery life, but I can't get more than 2 days of watch-only use and possibly 27 holes of shot tracking (they originally advertised 36 holes). Neither of those are showstoppers, though. My main objection is that MY X5 isn't functioning even as well as the V3, let alone improving upon it. It is a much more attractive watch and I truly like the ability to see what my actual club distances are; although it gives you total distance, not carry distance which is more valuable. But the amount of fussing around and editing has become irritating enough that I may very well stop using any shot tracker on a daily basis. It's possible that Shot Scope can fix most of the issues with firmware updates, but I don't think it's possible to fix them all.

Well... this has become much longer winded than I planned, but it's been rather cathartic so thanks for the opportunity 😮‍💨

Great update! Having tried both Arccos and Garmin as a player, I can confidently say that no golf product is flawless. Speaking specifically about the scorecard, I faced a similar issue with my previous Garmin watch. Nonetheless, it didn't bother me much since I would simply make the necessary stroke adjustments during post-editing if I happened to forget.

I'm looking forward to the firmware improvement and the full hole overview.

I did try Arccos in the (distant) past and found it more difficult to use/error prone than even early Shot Scope. But these are supposed to be golfing aids, not additional chores. I realize my frustration is showing, but right now I'm spending way too much time thinking about the shot tracking system, and not my shot. That has to change. If I was forced to make a decision today, I'd sell my X5 and H4 and use the V3 simply as a GPS device (that seems to work as well as any other GPS device I've seen) in conjunction with my Nikon laser range finder that I've had for nearly 25 years... that still works flawlessly!

    (Whooo boy, deep breaths.)

  10. A general X5 update. After doing a hard reset as cnosil suggested a few days ago, I used the X5 as a watch to see how battery life would be in that simple function. After only 5 hours of uptime, the battery drained to 79%. Granted, it also counts steps, and we went on a 45 minute walk. But that isn't GPS based from my understanding, so a 21% battery drain in only 5 hours isn't very good. In fact, it's pretty abysmal as a watch.

Yesterday, I played 18 holes and besides the heavy battery drain (down into the upper 20% range after 4-1/2 hours of play plus some watch only time), I noticed a couple new anomalies. First, the putting screen (manual mode) never appeared on the 1st hole even though it has every time in the past. Second, a shot was added in between actual shots with a club that I didn't even touch. This happened on two different holes. I seem to remember that there would be some AI stuff going on as the X5 becomes accustomed to the user, but I can't imagine it indiscriminately adding shots, so I have no clue that that was about.

Lastly, and I sorta-kinda remember someone bringing this up before but it went over my head at the time, the scorecard function seems to be a completely separate function from the shot tracking function. I was VERY careful to be absolutely certain the correct score was recorded before leaving every green, but yet the shot tracking was off in several places vs. the scorecard. I'm not sure what value the scorecard provides if it's just an electronic means of writing down your score with no shot tracking error correction to it. It isn't nearly convenient enough for that.

So... while I've been understanding and supportive as they've worked through issues, I'm increasingly being pulled over to the we've been snookered camp. Sorry, that's too harsh. I do not believe anyone has tried to intentionally put out a bad product; it just isn't living up to my expectations of a 4th or 5th generation shot tracking product. Other than being prettier to look at, MY X5 isn't as operationally competent as either the V3 or the H4, even after 3 firmware updates.

I've got so much money sunk into Shot Scope products that I have little choice but to give them more time to sort things out. But things need to get better quickly or it just isn't worth the trouble to keep using them. I hope the next firmware update makes me eat my words, but I'm not betting the farm on it.

Maybe do a hard reset;   I found that doing that helped the battery life on my h4 or maybe it was just becuase I was using it more.

Someone suggested I do that, maybe you, after I talked about the battery drainage with the update. But there's been at least 2 additional firmware updates since then and I haven't done it. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

...However, I did notice that after 18 holes - just shy of 4 hours I had 39% battery remaining. I'm ok with that given that I always charge it after 18. But do hope that they figure out the battery drain given they advertise it as a watch you can wear daily.

My battery drain has been worse since the firmware update (a couple updates ago) that was supposed to improve battery life. It's now what you're experiencing, but that's a bit worse than before the update.

  13. I've unfortunately had a new issue come up. My league plays just 9 holes so a few of us show up early and play 9 before that. I've done this before and had no issue with the X5 recording the initial 9, ending the game, then recording the other 9. Today, even though I had no issues tracking shot and keeping score, the 2nd 9 holes doesn't show up after syncing with the app. I thought maybe it just didn't sync but the "History" shows nothing; it's simply gone.

    This is getting really frustrating.

Quick question for those that have used GPS only on the X5. We played a scramble yesterday so I decided to use gps only vs. tracking,  I had to advance each hole manually using the  hole widget. Is this the way it's supposed to work? On the V3 it follows automatically and the X5 doesn't directly address this.

I've used GPS only mode just once but I don't remember having to manually advance it. That's a big enough PITA that I'm sure I would have remembered doing it. I'm sure I could find the answer to this question if I wasn't too lazy to go back through the thread, but have you ever factory reset the X5? One of the regulars on this thread suggested it several pages back so I tried it for grins. It did seem to smooth out a few nagging hiccups.

I am going to sell mine (Gray).  If interested, let me know.

I don't blame you for your frustration. Regardless of the product, a manufacturer simply can't know all of the potential issues until their new product gets into the hands of the masses and I'm beginning to think Shot Scope should have done a wide-ranging beta program before launching to the public. They could have gotten lots of willing participants from this forum alone, even charging their cost or higher for the privilege. I know we all got a discount as current SS users, but the X5 was still a fair amount of money and was supposed to be a finished product. The fact that it was available to the public quickly after the pre-sale deliveries proves it wasn't anything but a current customer reward (which I did appreciate). I for one wouldn't be as frustrated if these issues were part of a beta program rather than a finished product.

But I'm curious, will you some other shot tracker?

Shotscope response for the scoring widget !

The ! means that are score has been missed or not input correctly.
Please unlock the watch and press on the exclamation point and scroll through the holes until you find the holes that do not have a score inputted. Select on this hole, enter your score and once you have confirmed this the exclamation point will be replaced by your score.

I thought that was the case and your info provides a short cut to fix the "!". My problem is that the "!" has appeared twice in my last round because the X5 has moved off the hole by itself without me even leaving the green. Both times everything was tracking just fine on the hole. Then I input the number of putts and it advanced to the next hole before I could confirm the score. Both times it happened as I was walking across the green.

Hopefully firmware updates will nail down some of these glitches.

  17. 15 hours ago, tony@CIC said:

One thing I did forget to mention that occurred during my round yesterday is that at one point I had a ! point appear in the scoring widget. I did have the scoring option on so I figure that at some point I had made an error. I could not find it in the manual.

That's popped up on mine a few times, but I just assumed I missed a score. Be interesting what anyone finds out about it.

I am always surprised when I read about how great ShotScopes customer service is.  This has not been my experience.  Above Migreb posted that a course update was done with the speed of light.  I put in a course update last year stating that back and front nine on a course I play regularly needed to be reversed.  They seemed to have difficulty with the concept.  Course has still not been updated.  I put in another request to reverse the front and back nine on the same course two weeks ago and have yet to read back from them.....

Now there are all of these issues with the X5.  Customer service?  Really.  No wonder why Mark Crossfield booted their rear ends to the curb.

Whoa, I wasn't aware of that. I have to admit that I'm surprised at your experience. I really am sorry to hear that's happening.

No inside track here. Yes they should answer with some kind of a response - even if its a we're working on it but no eta. Just curious what your issue from November is?

I'm the one with the Samsung S22+ running Android 13, One UI 5.1 where the app doesn't render text correctly. I'm certain it's a Samsung thing, probably their One UI 5.1 (worked fine before 5.0) and it works just fine on other Android phones like the Pixel. My contention is that Samsung is the 2nd largest handset mfg in the world (so not some niche brand), and out of the hundreds of other apps on my phone, this is the only one that can't figure out how to make it work.

i reached out out to SS over the weekend to see if they had any insight on my shotgun issue.  Did not get a reply.  I'm guessing they are swamped.

Well... while I am a fan of Shot Scope, I've found that they only respond when they think they have an answer. Course update?... the speed of light! Sync issues?...step by step remediation suggestions. I've had an issue since November of last year that I've (officially) complained about twice, and several more times here which no one wants to hear about again. But I've yet to hear anything from them. Someone on this forum (sorry, I can't remember for certain but probably tony@CIC) seems to have an inside track and said that they were aware of the situation and were working on it. But nothing but crickets from Shot Scope. I get it. It's tough to tell a customer that they don't understand the issue, that they don't think it's enough of an issue to commit resources to it, that they don't have time, etc, etc. But I am disappointed that I've never heard anything from them. Frankly, I simply don't use the app now other than to sync my last round and get course/firmware updates.

Your shotgun round tracking issue seems like it could be pretty difficult to solve (other than manually by them as was suggested earlier) so I'll be very pleasantly surprised if you hear from them anytime soon.

    Yes, I'm being a curmudgeon.
