  1. Again, you and others are side stepping the fact that this issue is only associated with less than 1% of players. Not exactly a trivial fact but conveniently ignored. Adversely affecting virtually all players to address a "problem" of roughly 30 feet is ridiculous. This decision is akin to removing the arm to remedy a papercut. Advances in equipment tech, both clubs and ancillary, have most certainly contributed to increased distance - I've not argued otherwise. The USGA and R&A could have stepped in at anytime to throttle what they could clearly see but they didn't because no one wanted to mess with the goose laying golden eggs... Tigermania. The best thing to do is simply freeze design limits where they are now. That solves the "bi-furcation is not good for the game" claim. Once again, they cannot control the players ability to improve swing and gain speed... so what happens when the ball rollback distance is eclipsed by the elite players? Can't speak for you but at 63 and having worked hard over the past couple of years to gain distance and lower my index, I find it an affront that the ruling bodies want to essentially take that away from me to solve a problem that does not involve me. They are out of touch with those they are supposedly in place to represent.
  2. I can't help but think the mixed gender league is being studied and considered. I do agree that it would add some interest to the game. Professional golf has, seemingly, reached a pivotal juncture in its history. The old school me harkens for yesteryear's and the "oh what the hell" part says lets see what happens.
  3. Remember way back when "one length" was all the rage? Yea, me too . So who is still gaming them? Does Bryson still have them in the bag? I remember hearing that PING made him a set of i230's in one-length but I've not kept up with his current quiver. Who else on any of the tours has switched to these?
  4. This is simply a case of being out of touch with the populous you represent (or supposed to represent). They cannot control the players ability to refine swing and physical strength, so yes they will likely need to implement roll back part two. Again, for the umteenth time, this is an issue associated with less than 1% of all golfers. Why those supporting the change cannot understand this escapes me. Someone please explain on what planet this rollback makes sense for non tour/eleite amateur level players .
  5. I've spent quite a bit of time fishing that area... "wind knots" are a real thing there and have nothing to do with poor casting mechanics .
  6. No, crazy as it sounds, I have not played any but the 4 courses here at Grand since we arrived in Sept 2022. I had intended to play a few of the courses in Sun City West this past summer but never did. We also had a round planned for Quintero GC (near Lake Pleasant), this past summer but that got cancelled. So, other than a trip to Emerald Canyon (Parker, AZ) and most recently to Tubac GC Resort, I have many other local area courses to try. Good news is that my new Monday/Friday group plans to sample some various courses during the off-season play... so I'll be getting a start on that list pretty soon.
  7. Ever wonder how grabbing 3 golf balls for pre-round putting practice became the norm? Yea, I think of such things . After having spent an hour practicing chipping with my shag bag, I moved over to the putting green and watched for a few minutes. Except for one lady, all others were using 3 balls. When and why did this start? No doubt for most, just learned behaviour... monkey see, monkey do. But the origin? Is it because balls come in sleeves of 3? Is it because 3 fits in the hand most easily? Perhaps this was a informal etiquette rule from way back? Then I thought "maybe it's because more than 3 in the cup creates a problem with the pin extractor . So, being the contrarian I am, I grabbed 4 balls and did my putting practice. Interestingly, 4 balls is the maximum number that will seat on the pin extractor without stacking and falling off when pulled. So, from this day forward, I will now use 4 balls for my pre round putting practice... it just makes more sense to me .
  8. Your photo reminds me of the views I had from the courses I played in Montana. Your forecast reminds me how much I don't miss the prevailing winds through that region .
  9. That collection is cool but I'm way more interested in your avitar and what appears to be you in an boat? Have numerous fly rods, will travel, and pay for gas . My last trip to that area was in 2002, Marathon Key and Black Ghost Outfitters (no longer in business). It is absolutely true what a school of daisy chaining Tarpon, that look like chrome 55 Buick fenders, does to ones composure. I'd long read how even the most competent fisherman suddenly cannot find the arse with both hands and thought it was poppycock... nope .
  10. Top of the pot spies . After a brief hiatus to try other brands, we recently switched back to McD's ground coffee. It's always been a favorite of ours and started as part of our "road trip" travel itineary... that is, stop for a breakfast sandwich and coffee soon after hitting the road. We've been doing this for decades now. I bet we're not the only ones. Another glorius winter day here in AZ. Spring training now adding to the busy time of year here in Surprise (Texas Rangers and KC Royals home). With nearly all of our part time residents back, the place is really hopping as compared to June-Nov. The tee sheets on all 4 courses are pretty much booked all day, everyday. My Saturday foursome has a 1052 at Desert Springs. We always play some paired contest and the purse is losers buy the winners a beer. Everyone also carries their favorite birdie juice elixir and there have been some rounds where those get pulled a handful of times . Have a great Saturday and weekend everyone .
  11. I would if I could but probably won't have coverage; so I'll have to watch replay or highlights on TGC. I think it will be a fun venue and quite competitive. What's with the 12 hole format? Anyone know what the yardage difference will be?
  12. Hey Kenny. Glad to hear you and Martha made it to Palm Springs. Bummer about her cold. Tell her hello from me and you guys enjoy your respite from the cold .
  13. LOL. I was warned when I moved here about shotgun starts... and retired people in golf carts. Our Desert Springs course manager has started playing the "Looney Tunes" tune right after the "please head out to your assigned hole" announcement.
  14. Top of the pot spies! "Winter" seems to be officially over here in the valley of the sun. We nearly reached 80F yesterday and today looks like a repeat. Going to spend time at the range and practice area right after the 1245 shotgun start... come to learn that's the time to go during peak season as it's a ghost town immediately afterwards. Plus, observed from a safe distance, it's a hoot watching the circus of carts heading out. Have a great Friday everyone!
  15. Needs to be wearing Sun Day Red... everyday he plays tour events.
  16. We have ATT and no issues for us here in AZ. Must have been an east coast problem... excessive texting, i-surfing, and jabbering would be my guess .
  17. Top of the pot spies! Enjoying cup number 2 and mostly over the sting of yesterday's collosal crash. After a clean 38 front, I carded a 47 on the back in men's league . It all started on #10 when a pulled drive hit a tree about 100 yards out. Not seeing it, I hit a provisional - a beauty (isn't that always the case?) . I found ball #1 at the base of the tree on dirt, with an exposed root an inch away, and my swing follow through restricted. I managed to get it back on the fairway, leaving me about 130 yards. Shorted the approach, shorted the chip and 2-putted for a DB. I then played hole 11 (#1 handicap) to perfection but missed the 6 foot putt for birdie. On #12 I crushed the drive, thought it cleard the knoll on the left and would be in position A... only to find it had rolled back down into the waste bunker area and into a small area full of cart tracks/depressions. That yieled a wayward shot left, nearly OB and blocked by tree branches. This script continued the rest of the way... pars with DB and one TB bookends . That was the worst nine I've played in about a years time. But on a positive note, I installed the new ceiling fan in the living room yesterday afternoon and, having installed the new chandelier in the dining room a few days ago, completed my honey-doo list. However, "my-do" list will likely include some range and pitching practice after I get back from the gym. Have a great day whatever you have planned .
  18. I remember those Shell sponsored "Shell Oil World of Golf" matches. Amazingly, those started in 1961 and continued until 2003! They were played all around the globe and featured the games top players. In 1969, my dad took me to the Palmer vs. Frank Beard vs. Doug Sanders at PGA National Club (Palm Beach, FL). I can't even remember who won . Those were great to watch. I think they would be fabuously popular today and something the PGAT/LIV/DP Tours should look into as a way to quell the upheaval and add a fun, new twist.
  19. It's the dumbest rule in the game and should be changed. Being penalized for a good drive when you have no control of it stopping in a divot, which is technically GUR, is silly. If your ball rolls onto a sprinkler head or yardage marker you get relief. The same should apply to fairway divots. The USGA and R&A should have spent the time and effort correcting this instead of fixing a distance problem that does not exsist/effect 99% of players.
  20. Missed this survey but my quick read through the comments says most are a bit underwhelmed. It took me a second to decipher the pictograph but, in all honesty, I don't think it's too bad. Never was a swoosh fan, so-so on the TW initials, but I could see this catching on. Several made refernce to this being a bad take on the Norman "shark" logo. That one is easy to make the connection and this one takes just a little effort... but maybe that's a good thing?
  21. Congratulations testers!! Interested to see what test process you use and whose current gamer is moving to the bench. Have fun.
  22. No driver test will be considered truly complete without launching these... just saying
  23. Jack without a doubt. Jack is the GOAT.
  24. I attended for the first time last year on Thursday and told myself it was the last time. Because one of the guys we went with had recent back surgery and couldn't walk the course, I didn't get a chance to really experience the rest of the track. So, I went on Friday this year... and that was my last time. Even free tickets with lunch won't do it. The event is a complete $***S*** and at least 600,000 of the record setting 720,000 attending did so for something other than golf. I posted my experience and some pictures in The Good Morning thread last week. In addition to my personal preference of not having to watch and listen to intoxicated people, the event is simply oversold and too rowdy. I saw two different people throwing up and a girl that looked completely wasted being attended to by police/FD. I was able to get some refuge from the insanity at The Patriots Outpost/Tent hospitality suite. Drunk and disorderly earns you a one way trip to the exit. And, it's no longer just hole #16. They have added grandstands on both sides of #17 essentially making it a mess. My neighbor and I attended the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Phoenix CC this past fall and that was pure delight and, at least for this grumpy, semi-old man, professional golf that I grew up watching. We'll definitely attend that one again. Part of me really dosen't care whether they make changes to the WM or not. In some ways I see it a great reflection of the feral mankind we've created. They must be making a king's fortune and we all know how key economics are in professional sports these days. Clearly there is a sector of patrons (golf interested or otherwise) that like this environment. I say double down and continue to grow their experience. I might watch from the safety of my home.
