  1. You know you're hardcore when you wear your golf spikes to the wedding!
  2. It is a sad state of affairs that nothing is safe anymore. As a child, we never had to worry about leaving our bike outside unlocked. Today, it has to be triple chained to a secure post. My only consolation is that I truly believe that some day, they'll have to atone for the choices they made.
  3. You might take a look at bicycle phone mounts. They'd work like a champ! I have this one on my bicycle and it works great. https://www.amazon.com/Roam-Universal-Premium-Phone-Motorcycle/dp/B01LWDCSIZ/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=bicycle+phone+mount&qid=1615764641&sr=8-8
  4. By now, you've gotten plenty of feedback on your question, so I'll just say "welcome to the forum".
  5. Moved back a set of tees today for this group I play with (back to Men's standard from the Sr tees I prefer to play). Today showed some progress with the iron striking (swing change). Still having issues of getting my club head square at impact and getting through the ball with my driver, though. Probably lost 3 shots due to poor drives on the front nine and then hit a shot over the pond that landed short of the green and rolled back into the pond and, although I hit a decent shot after that, missed the putt and got the double. Birdied the next hole to shoot a 41 on the front. Bogeyed our hardest hole on the back and then missed a short putt on the par 3 started me off with 2 over on the back. A birdie on our hardest par 3 followed by a string of pars until 17 when I went bogey-bogey when I hit my approach shots short, leaving them in a green side bunker and failing to get up and down on the closing holes. 39 on the back for a round of 80. Team tied for first and I won a gross and a net skin for a $55 payout (less the $20 buy-in). Worst part of the "tied for first" team event is that the team that tied us got a blind draw and drew our high handicap player, who, although he didn't play well (96), did help them on enough holes to tie us. Of course, we all commented about the missed putts that would have sealed the deal...yada yada yada. Man, I love this game!
  6. Played yesterday and shot a 42/41. Still working on my swing changes and that often results in some really bad shots. Putting was so-so today. Shot of the day was on the par 5 #16 where I hit a crappy drive into the trees, was able to punch out toward the green, then stuffed an 8 iron to 2 inches from the pin for the KP and bird. My partner yesterday shoots 45/34 -- we were behind from #2 until #17 and ended up defeating our opponents.
  7. Before going with Snell, I was gaming the TP5X and really liked it. Haven't tried the newer version. Practiced what I was working on yesterday, today. Signs of good progress, but even slight swing changes require repetitive efforts. Playing tomorrow and hope to take (at least some) of the new swing with me. It's definitely giving me a better ball flight when I execute it properly. After some range time with irons and a bit with the driver, I moved over to the chipping area and worked on distance control, trying to land the ball on the point selected. I still tend to not be aggressive enough and will often leave it short of my intended landing area.
  8. I also swing a G400, but at even slower speeds than you. My club head speed isn't what it used to be I'm going to have to look at either reshafting it or going to a new driver soon. It's a stiff shaft and it's just a bit more shaft than I can effectively get through consistently. I hit it okay, but tend to push it out to the right. When I hit a draw, I'm good, but that push with an open face can really get me in trouble. But, it is, no doubt, the best driver I've had in recent years.
  9. I see you've met my lady friend --- Karma
  10. I went through CC, but that was long before the current Covid issues. It was a slow process for delivery even then. I'm guessing you're about 12 weeks into this. If you're not happy with the process, call and cancel your order (with refund!) and take your money elsewhere.
  11. It's past its warranty. They have no further obligation to continue any replacement policy.
  12. Take her to a demo days (just for fun, honey) and let her hit some new technology. Don't blame me when you have to break out that checkbook, though.
  13. If you're going to Brandon Dunes, you'll have more than one course to take in. If you play Bandon Dunes, then you'll want to play Pacific Dunes. And then there is Bandon Trail. Might as well go for Old McDonald while you're visiting. Don't forget Sheep Ranch. Then there's the Punchbowl and Bandon Preserve for those times between rounds. That's a lot of massages for the wives.
  14. @Kenny B ... don't you just love those mats?
  15. Some quality time with my swing coach today. Worked on a couple of issues. First, we used Blast Motion to look at my tempo numbers, both before and after some adjustments we made to the takeaway. The adjustment was to take the club head straight back rather than slightly away from me, which was my tendency, and to get the club a bit more vertical at the top and less laid off. Used a lead foot back drill to force me more upright in the takeaway and better control balance through the swing. Balance is always an issue for this old guy with 2 replaced knees and a bad left foot. Results were much better contact and balance throughout the swing -- the swing's a bit more compact, but much better connected. Blast motion numbers also saw the improvement. Mainly worked with a 7 iron, but finished the session with the same mindset with the driver. Again, the results were an improvement but it accentuated my tendency to get lazy with my hip turn on the downswing. Something to work on tomorrow prior to my weekend play.
  16. For me, it goes far beyond golf -- nothing says low-class like wearing your flannel pajama bottoms to the airport. I'm most comfortable in a pair of khakis and a polo shirt -- on or off the course. I'm just a conservative old fart, I guess. Deal with it.
  17. Those guys are better than me. If I were playing for the kind of money they play for, I'm not liking the other players very much. And, I'm marking my ball!!! LOL
  18. This debate has been argued ad nauseam as long as I can remember -- from the pros to the hackers -- all have an opinion. I've been in my share of divots, from craters to sand-filled -- sometimes it hoses me, but typically, I just focus on striking the ball better and usually come out just fine. I personally don't think this rule will ever change and I'm okay with that. Without a doubt, many will agree and many will disagree -- and we have years of this argument to see that.
  19. I wish our groups putted everything out (save the net doubles and worse) rather than being loosy-goosy with the gimmies. Like @chisagsaid, things go wrong with even the best putters -- lip outs, nerves, lack of focus, etc. My regular foursome group is pretty reasonable with gimme putts but the weekend larger groups are all over the place with what's good and what isn't. It's not a lot of money on the line, but come on! Personally, I like the rules of golf for medal play -- it's in play until you hole it out.
  20. This should go in the jokes page, but it seems more fitting in the "how did you play" thread.....
  21. "Be the ball". Ty Webb OK, maybe that wasn't the best advice ever, but it's the one I remember.
  22. Not a good day today. Weather was beautiful...except for the times the sun was behind the clouds and the temps would drop accordingly....anyway, none of that has anything to do with my pitiful performance today. I really struggled finding my tempo today. As a result, I was striking the ball pretty poorly with anything from open face slices to boned full wedge shots. I think I had 3 doubles on the frontside and came in the a 9 over 45. On the back, I somehow found myself and started hitting the ball well again. Took a double on the par 5 #12 when I hit my shot out of the wet sand bunker long and then 3 putted. Shot 3 over 39 on the back to record an 84 for the day. On the plus side, I was playing a match/medal game with my friend, giving him 5 strokes. We were dormie with 4 holes to go and I won the last 4 holes to break even in match play and I beat him on medal play as he took a couple of triples along the way. Knocking off some of my earlier better rounds and my handicap is going up. I froze for the winter at a 7.0 index and, as of this morning, it was a 7.5. Todays 84 knocks a 79 out of the 20 rounds, so my index will be higher tomorrow. I'm really liking the new handicap system with the daily changes rather than bi-weekly. I know others don't share my thoughts on that, but it's what we have.
  23. Another windy day in the Rogue Valley. While the temperature was 60, the wind was cold and the temps dropped significantly during the course of the round, along with a bit of drizzle the last 2 holes. Started off really bad and was 6 over after 6 holes. Played the next 12 holes at 3 over for an 81 for the day.
