  1. I play a 48 (PW), 52, 56. My 56 is go to club. I hit as many shots off all sorts of lies with that one club, and stock pitches and bump and runs with the rest. It has 12* of bounce, but I’ve learned what I need to do in my setup to take adjust loft/lie/bounce. I like the theory of becoming an expert with one club for those of us that don’t have 8 hours a day and unlimited range balls.
  2. Man that Asher bag looks great. I prefer the backpack strap because it’s better at distributing the weight on long days. You can always carry it single strapped if you’d like.
  3. I’m 5’4” and swing standard lie Mizuno MP-4 irons, and 45.25” driver. Definitely don’t assume a lie based on height. How vertical the club is at impact, arm length, club flex, and swing speed all play a role in the way the sole of the club interacts with the ground. If you can’t get into a fitter, my advice would be start with a “standard” set up and then tweak it from there.
  4. One of the biggest factors in how the golfer presents the clubface to the ball is shaft profile, and for every individual the feel they are looking for is different. But as a general starting point what profile is made for golfers looking to decrease their dispersion pattern?
  5. Fair enough. Have you tried marking it with the alignment aids, or is it just the clean look of the name you’re after?
  6. Update: I borrowed my significant other’s putter last night for a test. She is just starting to play and has a tour edge putter that came in a set, but it is noticeably lighter and has minimal toe hang compared to my Karsten Pal. I hit putts of 3 and 6 feet on my birdie ball 4x10 putting mat that was just delivered (which is great). Interestingly my speed control was much better with my Karsten Pal, with very few going more than a foot past the hole. On 3’ putts I made them all day long with both putters. on 6’ putts I made about 50% of my putts with the PAL, typically missed an inch or two off the right edge. However, I made about 75% of the putts with the lighter, less toe hang Tour Edge. Misses were still right, but that is a noticeable difference. I have a Ben Hogan BHB03, lots of toe hang, on the way through the company’s demo program. So expect another update to follow.
  7. Have you looked into the new Bridgestone lineup? Getting rave reviews on the forums, and I’m counting the days until I can give them a test against my usual Z Star gamers. I personally have a high ball flight and want the extra spin, so our needs are a bit different. But everyone is saying 1.5mph faster ball speed with the driver and 300rpms more on the wedges.
  8. Awesome, thanks for the insight @jlukes. I did not realize it came with a full weight kit either.
  9. Gold Pride Tour Wrap Microsuede. All the feel of a wrap, with none of the slip.
  10. I would like to give the SuperSpeed system a go, but do not currently want to spend full MSRP on it. If anyone is looking to sell PM me. Thanks!
  11. Hole 12 at Muroc Lake Golf Course. 222 yards from the tips, uphill par 3. Back to front sloping 2 tier green with a false front that runs 30 yard back into the fairway. Predominant wind is 15-20mph quartering in from the right.
  12. I wonder if choking down on the grip working for some and not others is due to the feel of the grip? On a tapered grip if you have shorter fingers, like myself, some of that control might come from allowing a more natural grip? Compare that to when you butt trim a shaft and are now holding onto the grip where it’s the thickest diameter? Just a thought.
  13. Same, gorgeous putters and I love mizuno irons.
  14. Those look great! What paint did you use, and how did you apply it? I’m looking to customize a fledge old wedges myself.
  15. Yep. I carry a X-hot 3w and 5w. Use them to get home in 2 on the midlength par 5s or to keep my tee shots short of trouble tight to the fairway. There is also a 9 hole course in the area that has some 260-300 yard par 4s where a Driver is too much.
  16. Walking!! Plus it makes rounds faster when everyone walks to their own ball instead of waiting in the car lot for each shot before driving to the next ball.
  17. Drag = 0.5 * (density of air) * Velocity^2 * (reference area) * (coefficient of drag) At the relatively low velocity clubhead speed (jets take off at 160mph, cruise near 600mph) and clubhead area you are going to get very little drag. Also the main contributor of drag is going to be the flat plate you are pushing through the air (the face), not the parasitic drag caused by the separation of flow from the crown as air is forced to bend over it. Without crunching the numbers or putting a club in a subsonic wind tunnel, I wouldn’t expect even a percent of efficiency gained. But any small increase in efficiency when most other variables are maxed out is probably cause for celebration. I thought the reason for small clubheads were the MOI properties tend to make them a bit hotter off the face, with less spin.
  18. Courses are completely shut down in LA County. I’m afraid there will be no golf for awhile, except backyard practice.
  19. Have you looking into something like U-Try? https://www.globalgolf.com/u-try/ I personally haven’t used it, but maybe another MGS user will chime in. Looks like you can test a driver for $25, and if you want to keep it the money goes towards the purchase price. Seems like if you use the MGS driver fitting tool for $9 to get some baseline specs you could do a trial run of 3-4 drivers for the cost of a typical fitting.
  20. I’ve looked through it, and the MGS tool is more thorough than most online fitting tools. The one difficult question to answer is tempo because it’s so subjective. It’s also $9 which is reasonable. That being said I’d use it as a good starting point, but nothing is going to compare to going out and playing the driver.
  21. Just added a steal I found at a Roger Dunn. FOURTEEN FH1000 to the bag. $39.99 used, looks new. Going to be my new club for hitting the ball long and under the wind. In the local area we see typical afternoon winds of 20-25mph almost every day. Shaft is a bit stiff for me, but I can hit stingers that cut about 10 yard off the start line all day.
  22. The possible CG location of a clubhead is very very small, even with moving adjustable weights. Read the official driver reviews down my MGS, they do a fantastic job describing it. So I would say this would have the smallest effect. Loft/lie and shaft are a bit harder to nail down because they not only change the impact parameters, they change what the player sees/feels and how they react to the swing. Both can have large impacts on shot quality. All else being equal though, IMO face angle probably has the biggest effect in direction and spin rates. @jlukes is spot on again with his thoughts. One thought I have is what the 8.5* does to how you deliver the club. You could very well be trying to help it, or flip it, into the air because you aren’t comfortable hitting the ball the effective loft presented with your typical stroke pattern.
