jpcgolf
On the first hole of one of my junior tournaments last fall, I saw this small oval like metal thing on the green. I picked it up without thinking and said, "someone probably forgot their marker in the group ahead of us." Then my playing partner said, "you just picked up my mark." I felt like such an idiot. I put it back where it was, and I played the rest of the round in fear of a penalty or disqualification. It turns out, there was no penalty because it was not intentional, and I lost in a playoff for third. Driver: Taylormade 2017 M2 9.5 degree head played at 8 degrees. RookieBlue7
A few things I try to adhere to... Never pick up anything that resembles any type of marker. Never pick up golf balls on holes with adjacent holes. Never spit on or around the green. Not saying it was intentional, but it's a good learning experience. whiskey golf
Never spit on or around the green. I really hate when people do this, it's disgusting.
jpcgolf
I have really done some very stupid things on the greens this year in tournaments. Two different rounds, I was playing very well and then I forgot to move my mark back which cost me two strokes. I was so flustered I shot 80 both rounds. Salmon
I had a similar thing happen but the roles were reversed for mine. I was playing in a junior tournemant and was using a $2 coin as my marker at the time. Put it down in front of me and was looking at the line of my putt a couple of metres away. Had a kid in my playing group casually walk over and go "Hey look two bucks" and picks the thing up lol Driver: Titleist 907 D2 7.5* Aldila VS Proto Shaft 65 X Fairway Woods: Titleist 980F 19* Pro Trajectory stock Titleist 4375 R shaft (desperately need to replace) Irons: Taylormade LT2's 3-PW S300 dynamic golds Sand Wedge: Vokey 56* 256 10 Oil can 8620 finish True temper shaft Lob Wedge: Shark 64* wedge True temper shaft Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 blade, 303 GSS Insert, 35'' 330g 4*L 71*L Ball: Pro VI
fozcycle
I have really done some very stupid things on the greens this year in tournaments. Two different rounds, I was playing very well and then I forgot to move my mark back which cost me two strokes. I was so flustered I shot 80 both rounds. I have markers that have distinct differences between the sides. So I use one side to mark my ball, then, if I need to move it out of another's line, I make the move BUT I flip the marker over and mark with the opposite side. So when I go to reset my ball, I will notice that the marker has been flipped and will then know to move it back. I know it sounds stupid, but it really works if you get in the habit of always marking your ball with a certain side of the marker. MarcKilgore
What a great idea of flipping the marker if it needs to be moved. I love how I pick up all these little ideas from everyone in the forums.
