Not to stir the pot but I don’t think he’s technically eligible as a LIV guy. I know ZJ has said that if he finishes in the top 12 he will use a captain pick on him. Not sure if that meant it’s his only way in the team or not. BK is not eligible to play PGA Tour events, but the Ryder Cup is run by PGA of America and not the PGA Tour. The PGA of America allowed BK to play in the PGA Championship and I’m pretty sure they would like him to play in the Ryder Cup. It would look pretty petty if he was ranked 2nd in points, but ZJ had to use a captain’s pick for him. Being a past PGA winner also allowed him to be in the field this year. I’m gonna sit back with my popcorn and enjoy watching it all play out. GolfSpy_APH
Unfortunately I need send a reminder that while LIV discussion will of course crossover in some areas and facets, direct liv discussion (pertaining to OWGR and all that stuff) outside of the LIV thread will and can be removed or moved over the LIV thread. It was the wish of membership to not have a ton of cross discussion in threads outside of the LIV thread and we will monitor this closer going forward. Comments which talk about LIV as it pertains to Brooks winning or directly relating to the event are of course fine and will remain, but as this topic is still divisive lets do our best to keep things in check and make sure those who are for LIV can have a time in the LIV thread and those who would rather not talk LIV can enjoy these threads without the other stuff going on with LIV. Golf2Much
Independent of which golfer won the PGA Championship, I have to hand it to Oak Hill Country Club course and their membership for hosting what I thought was a great tournament. Even with the cool and the one real day of rain, I thought the course held up well. I love the redesigned holes. There's a part of me that enjoys the fact that a classic golf course design does not have to be overpowered by today's golfers. Only 11 golfers were under par for the week. Of those golfers, you had two leading in total driving (Cantlay and Scheffler without necessarily being the longest hitters), long drivers (McIlroy first in driving distance) and short drivers (Rose at 143 in driving distance), decent putters (Cantlay 31st) and not the best putters (McIlory, Hovland and Davis all ranked over 100). The one stat that stuck out to me with most of them was their approach to the green where two thirds of the golfers under par where in in the top 34 and three were in the top 11. Those who succeeded over the four days did so with a variety of strengths, not just driving distance. For me, seeing that diversity of golfers with different strengths (and weaknesses) at the top of the leaderboard implies that the course was set up to challenge everyone. Thank you Oak Hill Country Club for a great PGA Championship!
